Hate the Tories but I think this is the one thing they've done that I agree with. I know kids can get round it with VPNs etc, but some of the younger ones won't. Porn is a cancer imo.

OP posts:

Antibles, I'm a woman and i love porn.

Couple of questions then:

Do you identify as a feminist?

Do you agree with me and OP that porn is a cancer?

Whisky2014 · 26/04/2019 09:26

No, i dont agree it's cancer. How ridiculous. Just because you dont like it...

LangCleg · 26/04/2019 09:33

Yawn.

Thread's not about adults. Thread's about whether or not the age verification legislation will achieve its intended aim or not, or whether there are unintended consequences of it.

Whisky2014 · 26/04/2019 09:41

And i dont think it will. As I said I think this is only for paid porn websites and well, there are so many free websites that will still be accessible. Also, there's always ways to get round things. No, I don't think it will make a difference.

Whisky2014 · 26/04/2019 09:43

What people need to do is get off their phones tablets and screens and go outside and do stuff! The WHO are saying its a major health concern. That way you build up telationships, know how to interact with people, learn right from wrongs etc. Otherwise all generations to come will be robotic zombies sitting in their room talking to other robotic zombies.

In order for this to work you have to whitelist every site you want to access - this is impossible to do, plus they would have to ban VPNs at the same time. Is whitelisting them hard? Can't you just add one every time you visit a different site, so it builds up with the sites you visit over time? Or do you have to predict what sites you will use and set it up then and there?

When I was at school, there were websites blocked that you couldn't access. Could still access smutty fanfic though. Blush

Sorry just checked and it does look like it is all porn sites, free or not. But to verify age "The user verifies their email address and then chooses an age verification option from our list of 3rd party providers, using options such as Mobile SMS, Credit Card, Passport, or Driving Licence."
Mobile sms?!What so they get to type in your mobile number, send a txt and then maybe you enter some verification code?? Hardly seems like that's gona be a big deal to get round

Images of child abuse are illegal, men have no trouble accessing them and don't get an automatic prison sentence because there are too many of them doing it.
That is despite the fact that child abuse is supposedly considered one of the worst crimes, worse than rape of an adult woman.

''A senior officer from the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre has warned of a “dramatic rise in both volume and severity” of vile images involving children.''

''Andy Morling, head of intelligence at CEOP, told the Mirror between 50,000 and 60,000 people are believed to be trading child abuse pictures online.

The total UK prison population is just over 90,000 and Mr Morling admitted “we cannot arrest our way out of this”.

Reports of abuse to his unit are up 263% in two years, to a record 16,550. Yet Government funding is being cut by 10% over three years.''

If anyone thinks this ban will do anything but make things worse.. please remember it won't be covering Twitter or Reddit.

Reddit especially has thousands of Subs dedicated to every fetish and kink there is. It's a.massive website with a huge porn side.

Ban is useless, no doubt costly, impressive only to people that have no clue how the internet works.

Whisky2014 · 26/04/2019 10:10

TheInebriati is that 50k to 60k people in the UK alone? Fucking hell.

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 26/04/2019 10:17

Why not just make it an offence to supply pornography to a minor? So if a parent hands a child unrestricted internet access, which is used to access porn, then the adult has committed the offence?

HorsewithnoPhD · 26/04/2019 10:17

Thread's not about adults.

True. But children do grow into adults and if they have been exposed to porn chances are they'll continue using it. Bit like fags. Don't we want to reduce the consumption of porn for all people of all ages? When the OP stated that porn = cancer I took that to mean for all of us, not just children.

But look, if it matters so much that we have to rigidly stick to what the "thread's about" and may not digress even slightly then I will say no more on the subject. I will wait for another thread about adult use of porn. There's bound to be one soon on Feminism Chat.

TheInebriati · 26/04/2019 10:20

Yes, in the UK alone; we are in the middle of a social crisis. People can't keep up with how fast things are changing, and one thing the internet does it permits 'influencers' to have a disproportionate effect on large groups of people.

Men are learning to see women and children as 'other', in exactly the same way that armies use violent pornography to train them to bond and to disassociate from the enemy.

Your post at 10.06 is so important, "TheInebriati*. I don't think people have any idea of the scale of the problem.

Sajid David announced 80k people who pose an online threat to minors in the UK (and the Home Office admits this is an underestimate):
