'Problematic' - calling card of the Ultra Woke?

Whenever I read an article which has some kind of thought or behaviour described as 'problematic', it's inevitably a giveaway that the Ultra Woke want something they class as 'wrongthink' to be banned, shut down or otherwise expunged as it represents an unwelcome detour from the One True Path?

Do others agree? And are there other such phrases that set the Spidey Sense tingling?

I detest the word problematic now. It is used for every little thing that someone doesn't like and it's such a meaningless term. It tells me nothing about the book. It covers everything from There aren't enough trans people of colour in this book to a character expressed an opinion that I disagree with to this author is a known paedophile and is using his book to promote the idea that adult/child relationships are a positive thing.

I roll my eyes when I see the phrases like non binary trans femme. It's like wtf does that even mean. Besides blue hair and a bright orange tu tu.

Even worse - "problematise"

It's similar to "chaotic" when used in terms of someone's life.

It essentially means "lives in a shit tip and/or has various other problems", but it's a right-on tip-toey way to say so.

But yeah, "problematic" is almost always seen in close proximity to a "preferred pronouns" status.

'Check your privilege', which is so often said to people who are quite obviously not as privileged as the sanctimonious prat saying it.

Usually not describing far right views, just views that the uberwoke author has decided must be evil because they don’t agree with them. Conservative being shorthand for doesn’t strictly adhere to woke doctrine.

'Inclusive' (and I used to use social inclusion quite happily) and 'bigot' I've heard that word more in the last year than in the last 20 years.

the word gender. it of course has legitimate and useful usage. but is all too often used to make an outrageously sexist statement sound right on.

unfortunately any language around fighting inequality, looking at intersecting oppression etc makes me tense up. which is actually very bad as it will certainly lead to throwing the baby out with the bathwater in the style of the current opposition to the no outsiders programme.

We civil servants love the words "problematic" and "chaotic" (see also "complex") because they make ministerial briefings sound well written, particularly in relation to academy trusts

It’s the avoidance of critical thinking that is dangerous, not the calling it out!

Problematic is a way of indicating dislike of another persons views or actions, without bothering to consider and state what you dislike, why, how legitimate your dislike is, and what the consequences of it should be in terms of restrictions on the other person’s freedom of speech and action.

It’s exactly the sort of crap that is used by a dictatorship trying to discourage freedom of thought and expression without using violence. It should be questioned whenever we encounter it.

Any word can be used to shut down critical thinking. But I'm not a fan of relinquishing words so that they become the sole property of the controlling types.

I still use folk, problematic, chaotic, inclusive etc. Just not as jargon. I do only tend to use valid and invalidate in connection with tickets and passes, though. Because "You are valid" seems like the most insipid statement of human worth I can imagine. "You are worth about the same as a useful bus ticket" isn't really something I'd appreciate someone giving me as an affirming phrase.
