I am compiling a list of all the threats and violence commited against women in the UK during the trans rights debates. I would love your help! So far I have

September 2017 Maria McLoughlin was assaulted at Speakers corner by Tara “the terf slayer” Wolf who went to “fuck up some terfs they’re no better than fash”

On March 8th a woman was chased off the Bectu picket line in London after some trans activists, with no connection to the dispute - mobbed and verbally attacked her. No one intervened. Her crime? Attending a discussion about changes to the law likely to affect women's sex based protections.

On 19th April in Bristol a meeting of feminists and trade unionists was picked by a group of masked trans right activists who stormed the venue and detonated a smoke grenade.

In June 2018 a Womans Place UK meeting in Hastings received a bomb threat.

Also in June that year, activist and radical feminist Jenni Harvey was asked to leave an anarchist book fair in London after complaints were made about the feminist pamplet she was distributing. She was followed outside, called a “fucking ugly cunt” and her pamphlet was set on fire.

In December 2018 Helen Steel - the anarchist who won a landmark libel case against MacDonalds - was forcibly ejected from an Anarchist book fair in Partisan, Manchester. She sustained injuries but did not go to the police.

In January 2019 a series of posters appear in central Manchester bearing the text “protect trans kids - BURN TERFS"

What am I missing wims? I am sure there are many more examples but the news moves so fast I forget!

At the Anarchist Book Fair in 2017 two women were attacked for peacefully handing out flyers. They were surrounded and threatened. Helen Steel intervened and stood up for them and then was attacked herself. Her account is here helensteel12.wordpress.com/2017/11/22/my-statement-on-events-at-london-anarchist-bookfair-2017/

Fair Play have made a hood start on this.

NonnyMouse1337 · 18/04/2019 19:10

Are there links to news articles or reports on each of these instances? Might help with claims of making it all up.
Not saying you specifically need to find all the info - we can all pitch in. :) But it would be good to have these with as many references as possible so we're not exaggerating.

OVAgroundWOMBlingfree · 18/04/2019 19:12

Wasn’t someone doxed on Twitter and threatened with report to their employer because they spoke on television?

@Daughterofmabe

I had no idea about this it's awful! Do you have links?

stillathing · 18/04/2019 19:26

really sorry can't do links right now but the academic Rosa Freedman got her university office door urinated on and (i think) received telephone death threats in the night as well as threats of sexual violence and antisemitic threats.

there was also very recently a facebook group collating all the known gender critical university staff and their institutions so that students could threaten them

AlwaysComingHome · 18/04/2019 19:27

Ideally there would be a Wikipedia page on this issue that anyone could update, including links to sources, just as there are for racist incidents, Islamophobic incidents, Islamist terrorist attacks, or, indeed, transphobic incidents - but apparently not.

Strange, that.

Was it WPUK that held a meeting at a Friends House (Oxford?) and had protestors outside who refused to STFU even after being told there was also a meeting of abuse survivors going on?

It was described by Assoc Professor Michael Biggs in an article written shortly afterward:
'Free speech at Oxford:
Do women have the right to meet to discuss legislation?'
(extract)
"Before the meeting began, at least fifty protesters gathered outside the door, screaming at the top of their voices. Attendees therefore had to push through this crowd in order to access the meeting. One Oxford MPhil student came disguised with hat, scarf, and sunglasses, in case she was recognized by the protesters. A mother who came with her baby in a pushchair was called a paedophile and was photographed, despite pleading with the protesters not to take photographs of her daughter; she was in tears. (I was checking tickets at the door, and so witnessed this at first hand.)

Protesters continued to scream outside for two hours after the meeting had convened. This was clearly an attempt to cause such disruption that venues in the future will not be willing to host such events. After the Woman’s Place meeting began, there was meeting scheduled for survivors of sexual assault in the same building. When the protesters were requested to allow the survivors to enter unimpeded, they refused." (continues)

'Trans lobby has sent me death threats, says Professor Rosa Freedman'
(extract)
An academic who raised concerns about extending transgender rights in Scotland has been subjected to rape threats and had urine poured under her office door.

Professor Rosa Freedman, 35, has warned that conflating the terms sex and gender on Scotland’s official census will undermine women’s rights.

She claims to have endured a catalogue of harassment — which also includes late-night anonymous phone calls — since commenting on transgender policies being considered by MSPs." (continues)

Julia Long and friends removed from various events including the Accenture one, and also the breast book launch and the Monroe Bergdoff event where Julia raised a safeguarding question.

Accenture one:

"An academic was forcibly removed by police from a 'transgender visibility' event after organisers complained she made members of a panel discussion ‘feel uncomfortable'.

Dr Julia Long was carried out of the Accenture International Transgender Day of Visibility Panel Event on Thursday night after seven officers from City of London police responded to a complaint from organisers about the presence of a group of four women.

The women were asked to leave after being told they were not welcome at the ‘inclusive’ event at consultancy firm Accenture’s head office in London."

August 2018 LAWS Plymouth - listed building defaced with graffiti, attempts to mobilise opposition to event failed.

Let A Woman Speak Press Statement 26 August 2018 :
(extract)
"On Saturday 25 August 2018 LAWS held an event in Plymouth at the Ker Street Social Club, which occupies the architecturally significant and Grade 1 listed Egyptian House, in Devonport. Situated in an area of historic deprivation and recent regeneration, the social club acts as a community hub and is important to the local community.

Due to previous attacks on meetings held to discuss women's concerns regarding the GRA, including a bomb threat, harassment of venues and physical assault, the meeting location was kept secret until late the previous night.

On the morning of 25 August, LAWS were informed that the building had been attacked with obscene graffiti, including spray-painted 'TERFS FUCK OFF' and the symbol for trans anarchist activists on the front and side of this prominent building. The police attended and the venue supported the event going ahead." (continues)

From the article by Michael Biggs linked previously:

"After a London meeting, a woman had her glasses snatched (currently under investigation by the police—the culprit is apparently an Oxford graduate). Women who are seen to attend the meetings may be targeted subsequently.
Transgender activists mobbed a trade unionist (Paula Lamont) on a picket line in London— ironically on International Woman’s Day—and she had to be escorted to safety by police."

October 19 2018 Times Lucy Bannerman
'Lib Dem trans activists ‘hounded’ abuse victim'
(extract)
A victim of domestic abuse was removed as a judge of a radical thinking prize and “hounded” out of her role within the Liberal Democrats for saying that she did not believe that men who identified as women should have access to women’s refuges.

Natalie Bird, 38, a mother of two who fled an abusive former partner, was accused of “dangerous transphobia” by transgender activists in the party. She had said that opening up safe spaces without proper safeguards to anyone who said that they were female could put women at risk." (continues)

After being allegedly bullied on social media by party activists, Ms Bird was brought before a disciplinary hearing to face a complaint in the name of Zoe O’Connell, on behalf of the LGBT+ Liberal Democrats. The correspondence says that Ms Bird had “expressed troublesome views”.

The hearing found no evidence to support the complaint of transphobia, but Ms Bird lost her position as chairwoman of the Radical Association, made up of party members, following a vote of no confidence" (continues)

Does everything that's happened to Caro count?

What about threat of law and cases being bought against Graham Linehan and Miranda Yardley, etc?

Or not? Dunno if I'm going off on a tangent.
