Don’t mis-gender me

At work today, having and diversity chat and I got called a cis woman. Thanks to mumsnet I said ‘I reject that term, don’t mis-gender me’. Went down like a lead balloon especially when I followed up with ‘I’m not a sub-set of women, I am a woman, an adult female human’.
Thanks for giving me the confidence to hold my ground.

Excellent, play them at their own game.

littlbrowndog · 17/04/2019 17:59

Sweeeeeet 💪💪

hoodathunkit · 17/04/2019 18:01

I absolutely hate the whole "cis" thing

It erases my identity as a woman and I will not tolerate it

Good for you for standing up for yourself!

:)

Pixilicious · 17/04/2019 18:05

Thanks! I feel proud of myself but it was very obviously frowned upon!

👍

jeaux90 · 17/04/2019 18:08

Well done you!

CarolDanvers · 17/04/2019 18:09

Frowned upon? So they assumed your gender and then got hostile with pulled up on it? My goodness me, complaint to Human Resources PRONTO!

Tartyflette · 17/04/2019 18:12

Why should your feelz count for less than anyone else's? You were offended by the term they called you and you told them so.
I'd also use language like 'othering' in situations like this to turn it around on people who say this stuff while fondly imagining they're being so woke.
I really hope more of us do this, and keep on doing it.

Well done! Very brave.

RuffleCrow · 17/04/2019 19:03

Nice one OP! Cis has to stop. Full stop.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 17/04/2019 19:08

Nicely played sir (or ma’am of spaghetti monster).

I would have have told them to shove ‘cis’ up their derriere (as I told someone else today on a different topic).

KatvonHostileExtremist · 17/04/2019 19:08

Sex is a protected characteristic and they have no right to start sectioning it off.

Well done you ✊✊✊✊

AssassinatedBeauty · 17/04/2019 19:14

Good response. I hope it doesn't cause you any further issues. But it is ridiculous that these sorts of over-woke people can decide your gender identity for you when they wouldn't dream of it for someone they thought was obviously transgender.

BettyFloop · 17/04/2019 19:20

Excellent! Well done you Star I bet there was someone who heard you say that who thought to themselves 'she's got a point there...' or 'blimey, I'm not on my own...'
Courage calls to courage and all that.

Pixilicious · 17/04/2019 19:27

@assassinated - I don’t think it will cause me any issues but if it does, bring it!
@betty - I hope so, that is a really positive way of thinking. My mantra at the moment is ‘to ignore is to condone’ and I definitely don’t condone it.

Love this! well done ✊🏻💗

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 17/04/2019 20:19

My sister is funny. ‘They’ve invented a new fucking word! Don’t fucking cisc me!’.

She (a lesbian) is only just calming down from when I enlightened her at the end of last year that lesbians who refuse to sleep with ‘male’ lesbians are hideous transphobics who should be whipped naked through the streets.

GaraMedouar · 17/04/2019 21:02

Well done OP. I would only have thought of what to say 30 minutes too late!

PlatypusLeague · 17/04/2019 21:07

Brilliant, well done OP! I doubt I'd have found the words if put on the spot like that.

Chocalatecappuccino · 17/04/2019 21:30

Excellent. Well done.

I will be remembering that if anyone ever calls me 'cis'.
