As much as I feel that women deserve equal rights I really cant stand going into a public loo after a strange man comes out , how do you feel ?

In my old job it was a unisex toilet there were more men than women, it was smelly and disgusting, tried hard not to use it.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 14/04/2019 18:14

I used a unisex loo recently. And it was exactly as I had feared it would be: smelly, seat up, splashes of pee on the floor. I'm not that picky, but I didn't really want to touch anything in there.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 14/04/2019 18:15

given the choice, I'll pick single sex every time, even if they're 'proper', self contained unisex toilets. I don'tr want to use them

Lllot5 · 14/04/2019 18:17

Used a unisex loo recently have to say it was fine. Doors and walls of cubicles up to the ceiling, clean just fine. I was standing washing my hands and man walked in said oh sorry turned round walked out again. Clearly thought he gone into women’s by mistake. Smile

SpreadsheetQueen · 14/04/2019 18:18

I don't particularly like them, but as I have DS of that awkward in between age, when they don't really belong in the ladies, I find unisex easier than letting them go to the gents alone.

MumUnderTheMoon · 14/04/2019 18:21

I don't really like public toilets generally but if the cubical walls were to go floor to ceiling I would be more comfortable in toilets if they were unisex or not.

Silversky70 · 14/04/2019 18:23

Awful. Seat and floor covered in piss. I like my own space to check hair, make up etc. Dh hates them too. He feels awkward sharing an intimate ( can't think of a better word right now) space with women. I think most good men would.

picklemepopcorn · 14/04/2019 18:25

I regularly visit a building where each loo has its own sink. It's a long corridor of unisex loos.

Informally, the men have elected to use the ones at the far end, the women the nearest ones.

It's a very civilised place.

Dimsumlosesum · 14/04/2019 18:29

I used to clean the men's and boys toilets. It was vile. They cannot. Wee. In. The. Right. Place. Always stank of urine. Piss everywhere. Urgh.

TipseyTorvey · 14/04/2019 18:30

I'm uncomfortable with it to be honest. Men's loos stink and now unisex loos stink the same way. I live in a house with small boys and if I didn't clean them daily they would stink too despite my constant shouting.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 14/04/2019 18:31

We've got some at work (as well as lot of single sex). Those tend to be fine.

My experience with them in the evening is different.

One Prezzo I was in had a member of staff getting changed in one of the cubicals. He hadn't even bothered to lock the door. Nice.

Other times I've hated them include an event night with just two shared loos. They were absolutely destroyed by the end of the night. I had to apologise to the queue when DH didn't bother to lock the door properly so all the women and blokes were treated to a lovely sight. Grrrrr.

I tend to find the seats and floors are often wet. Sometimes I think it's because the crappy little sinks are too small and splash. Other times it's cos men miss.

I think generally multi sex loos are about companies saving money. They couldn't actually give a fuck about trans people. They just find it cheaper to install.

Once when I was on a train I opened the loo door to the charming sight of an old man pissing into the sink.

I always feel sorry for people with disabilities when I see the state their loos are sometimes left in.

One house I lived in had an outside loo (as well as inside) I used to send DH there. Sorted. Single sex loos are great.

Many toilet stories. The TRAs will rub their hands with glee. Don't care.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 14/04/2019 18:41

The ones in Costa are fine because checking on them is part of the staff's regular routine through the day.
Almost all others, not so much.
There is one coffee shop in town that I avoid mainly for that reason, because I felt so ill when I came out.
If you are going to HAVE to have unisex loos then you need to have staff available throughout the day and a very thorough cleaning protocol.

ByGrabtharsHammarWhatASaving · 14/04/2019 20:15

I don't think I've ever used one (other than the single cubicle/ disabled loo type). I used a mixed sex changing room at the pool the other day though and even though i was in a locked cubicle I was so anxious about spy-cams that I changed under my towel. Horrible feeling, especially as I was changing my daughter as well. The thought of spy-cam videos of her going online makes me sick.

Erythronium · 14/04/2019 20:24

Had to use one yesterday. Yuck. Men pee everywhere.

crocsaretoocoolforschool · 14/04/2019 20:24

We have unisex loos at work which are also disabled toilets -they all have one door off the corridor, sink and loo in the same room and are on different corridors around the building.

Since they are used exclusively by responsible adults who would be tracked down if it was left in a state it's never been a problem and is always clean

Wouldn't fancy having them in public though

Voice0fReason · 14/04/2019 20:28

Hate them. Men piss all over the place.

ErrolTheDragon · 14/04/2019 20:36

They're ok in places like cafes if they're sensibly designed self contained cubicles and kept properly clean.

lboogy · 14/04/2019 20:42

Women equally piss on seats and don't clean up so what's the issue ?

stillathing · 14/04/2019 20:51

Went clubbing last night and the loos were unisex. Little rooms but shared sinks. Didn't feel comfortable using the mirror with men in there too. I noticed there were no "ask for Andrea" safety posters for women on bad dates. But by far the worst thing was the piss. Piss on the floor (which was also where the loo roll was kept!); piss all over the seats. Stank of piss. Tbh it would make me think twice about returning. Especially as its a place that also does food so I was interacting with the revolting piss-fest toilets and then going back to my table to eat.

almondykess · 14/04/2019 20:55

Me! I like unisex loos, I've always wondered what men's loos are like and it feels very exciting!

QuentinWinters · 14/04/2019 20:57

So much rubbish. Women might occasionally leave a drip on a seat. Men (or specifically boys) often miss entirely and leave a puddle that stinks when it dries out- which happens easily if it's behind the loo.
I don't know why there is this myth that the ladies is as bad. We all have noses and all know which smells worse. Envy

almondykess · 14/04/2019 20:57

Also...I don't know if the toilets around you guys are just cleaner than the ones I use, but in my experience women definitely aren't immune to pissing on the seat/floor Confused

TheFallenMadonna · 14/04/2019 20:57

We have unisex loos, mostly used by teenage boys in fact. Individual rooms with own sink. Open onto the corridor. Cleaned once a day. Completely fine.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 14/04/2019 20:58

Hideous. I don’t know what men do in there but their genetic makeup must be half fucking garden sprinkler because they pish EVERYWHERE.

psychicoctopus · 14/04/2019 21:01

Pubs and bars with unisex toilets are awful. Drunk men piss all over the seat and the floor, they leave the seat up and don't shut the door while they're pissing. It's vile.
