Seems to be becoming a standard excuse for male violence and murder and accepted as such

I imagine it's now the standard defence in these sorts of cases as obviously the victim can't give their side, must be really awful for the family

FuzzyLilac · 11/04/2019 09:15

I read that this morning.

Neighbours heard her screaming....

Sex game gone wrong is not a defence.
He murdered her.

TheRumor · 11/04/2019 09:23

This is awful. Poor woman.

He is a murderer, plain and simple.

She sustained fractures and cuts to her body. The neighbours heard screaming. She died of asphyxiation.

It's not a 'sex game gone wrong'

It's violence that culminated in her murder. And now she can't argue back it's convenient for him to suggest that everything that happened, including her murder, was consensual.

This shouldn't be happening. Angry

WomanDaresTo · 11/04/2019 10:15

This is awful.

Thank you for posting this OP.

Anna is now the 50th British woman killed where the man claims some kind of "sex game gone wrong". There are many more who've been injured - where the man still claims in court that she consented to it.

We Can't Consent to This have asked for the draft Domestic Abuse Bill to explicitly consider claims of consent in domestic violence.

These cases can founder at any stage of the criminal justice system, from police on the scene to crime scene investigators to coroners to the CPS to judges and then juries, if the "rough sex" "gone wrong" claim is accepted and even proposed by those in the system.

LuvSmallDogs · 11/04/2019 12:21

There should be laws made that people are considered incapable of consenting to certain injuries, so that men like this get done for it regardless.

Ereshkigal · 11/04/2019 12:23

Such a legal precedent exists. But it doesn't seem to be applied when it's a woman.

SapatSea · 11/04/2019 13:39

It's shocking and really disturbing and as WomanDares has pointed out, she may be the fifthieth victim this year. JUst above the article link there was the case of a footballer jailed for 3 years for subjecting his girlfirnd to brutal and sadistic violence, such as rubbing her back with glass, using her breasts like puch bags etc.

There is just a constant stream of this violence against women reported everyday in the papers and it's just the tip oft he iceberg.

Violen porn and it's easy availability is now so normalised and it's now accepted as a defence that women actually want to be subjected to this kind of crap as part of "consensual sex"

I don't believe any of these are sex games gone wrong.
It's manipulative and exploitative lawyers and the perpetrators themselves trying to abuse the law.

nettie434 · 11/04/2019 19:58

50th woman to die this way. Truly shocking, WomanDaresTo. I do understand the 'cab rank' rule that barristers use but just wonder at how far off course their moral compasses must be using this argument as a defence

ohhiyouitsme · 11/04/2019 21:09

It's so harrowing to read all of these women's stories 😢.

ahumanfemale · 11/04/2019 21:32

I had no idea the number was so high. I thought it was just one case before this one! And I was already enraged at that.

There should be laws made that people are considered incapable of consenting to certain injuries, so that men like this get done for it regardless.
I totally agree with this. I really don't care if it limits what some "genuine" S&Mers do - although the genuine ones wouldn't be killing anybody anyway.

Voice0fReason · 11/04/2019 22:08

These men need charging with murder and 'sex games' should not be allowed as a defence.

Erythronium · 11/04/2019 22:13

I'm sure "genuine" BDSMers can be murderers too, I'd have thought women in that community would be most at risk if their partner has a fetish for strangling them and is actually carrying it out. It's a murder fantasy.

madcatladyforever · 11/04/2019 22:16

This fills me with absolute rage.

WomanDaresTo · 12/04/2019 00:17

This fills me with absolute rage.

I've had a Gin, but I am incensed by this.

So many women contact us because their other halves strangle them, frequently, and tell all their mates "she loves it rough"

Young women use a dating app and meet blokes and find all boys want to choke

And sometimes* it works to claim sex game gone wrong

*perhaps 40% of the time

WomanDaresTo · 12/04/2019 00:19

So Gin to all of us, to all of these women

And if anyone fancies channelling their extreme anger into some data analysis (full instruction provided) and activism, let me know

ahumanfemale · 12/04/2019 12:59

I mean 'genuine' S&Mers as in those who work with consent very closely. Not ones who use S&M as an excuse for abuse.

I was strangled 20 years ago during sex. It was horrific. It was not any sex "game", never discussed beforehand and most definitely nonconsensual (which was probably half the thrill for him). I didn't know I wasn't going to die (couldn't quite believe I was going to either - it was too shocking!). I'm fucking fed up that the shit I went through not only hasn't gone away, it's gotten worse both in incidences and in men being held unaccountable for their actions, for even more reasons than before.

WomanDaresTo I might be up for some data analysis, but I'll pm you.
