And it is very unlikely any parties will have time to select new candidates and will just rollover the existing list.
Because of all the pissing around some MEPs have moved house and got new jobs.
Not all will be able to / want to roll over their candidacy. Also each area has a certain number of MEPs. You need to put up more candidates than you currently have in case you win additional seats.
My understanding is that parties are struggling to get enough candidates, because no one knows if they'll never sit, only sit for 3 months, 6 months, a year or longer.
If you have a job and mortgage to pay that's a potential barrier to standing.
I think being an MEP is a harder job than an MP because it requires much more compromise to get any thing done.
If Madigan can't cope with nasty British politicians, they are going to have something of a problem with MPs from some other countries who have biological differences firmly ingrained in law and culture.
It's a very different thing to politics in the UK.
If Madigan would be out of depth in parliament, they would be even more out of depth in Brussels.
I think if Madigan did get chance to run, they might be at the bottom of a list of candidates. (sitting MEPs would get higher priority). Madigan might get bragging rights then, but not a hope in hell of being elected.
