For anyone experiencing narcisstic behaviour in their lives, particularly women, this is a really interesting article.

To enable this thread to remain, let's not speak of this again. But you may want to risk reading the link whilst it's still here. Grin

I found this article very helpful, thank you

Melroses · 03/04/2019 22:04

I am busy reading it - just managed to salvage it in time - I was too busy laughing Grin

EweSurname · 03/04/2019 22:05

Haha you beat me to it pombear! Was also crafting a thread.

It can't be verboten to discuss a useful tool in dealing with narcissists, particularly given that they seem to predominantly target women, if the relationships board is anything to go by.

Chump lady (also discovered on relationship boards) provided me with the grey rock technique:

I just had a thread zapped like this, no explanation

It’s like they’ve forgotten their coercive control video

Narcissistic rage really is a sight to behold and you need to be strong, aware of it, and see it for what it is otherwise you will be drawn in.
Being drawn in never ends well.

EweSurname · 03/04/2019 22:05

Duluth wheel of abuse is also useful

Theres a great blog by a woman who survived a relationship with a narcissist, and she details the stages of behaviour you can expect. She also links to other resources.

How to stop handing over narc supply -
Narcissists usually lack the ability to self-reflect and would totally reject any notion that there might be anything wrong with them.

Interesting thread pombear

I think its good to have a thread which talks about these sorts of things

A bit like on the relationship board

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 03/04/2019 22:07

This won’t last long, so prob no point, but here is an article I wanted to share on my thread that just got deleted, that particularly spoke to me as a child of domestic abuse. Anyone can be the victim of coercive control:

pombear · 03/04/2019 22:08

For me, articles like these sit alongside amazing tools such as the Freedom Programme www.freedomprogramme.co.uk/ (way more indepth than this article) in giving women the tools and the language to name the behaviours that oppress and control them.

It's so important to be able to share things like this on this board.

Another excellent group of articles on recognising and responding to a narcissist when trapped in a cycle of abuse:

www.issendai.com/psychology/narcissism/narcissists-what-to-remember.html

www.issendai.com/psychology/estrangement/index.html

Found those incredibly useful when recovering from DA.

Melroses · 03/04/2019 22:08

This is a nice straight forward read for those who like bullet points.

Melroses · 03/04/2019 22:09

Thanks - off to read that Freedom Programme article now. I think I need it.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 03/04/2019 22:09

god you lot are amazing. so knowledgeable, so many resources

amazing

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 03/04/2019 22:10

It's so important to be able to share things like this on this board.

It would be very useful on the relationship board, too.

exLtEveDallas · 03/04/2019 22:11

Bugger. Need to slightly derail.

Fermats something or other because I can't remember her full name and I'm hoping one of you do - I would have PMd this if I could.

This is what I was talking about:

You'll need Mozilla firefox;

addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/

www.edochan.com/widgets/mumsnet/

I hope it still works - it's been a while.

Coercive control:

Some common examples of coercive behaviour are:

Isolating you from friends and family
Depriving you of basic needs, such as food
Monitoring your time
Monitoring you via online communication tools or spyware
Taking control over aspects of your everyday life, such as where you can go, who you can see, what you can wear and when you can sleep
Depriving you access to support services, such as medical services
Repeatedly putting you down, such as saying you’re worthless
Humiliating, degrading or dehumanising you
Controlling your finances
Making threats or intimidating you

Thanks so much for these useful links. I find FWR such a supportive environment.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 03/04/2019 22:12

Really good advice, I think it really helps to view certain situations through the perspectives offered in these links.

Thanks sisters
