Need to see what comes out of this, Polly Carmichael, GIDS, Mermaids all involved:

Susie Green on panel of experts apparently:

Green notes the damage that happens to young trans and gender nonconforming people during long waits, many of whom are undergoing irreversible changes of puberty while waiting. #TransHealthConf2019

What about the irreversible changes of castration, Susie?

I was at the doctors last week and saw a notice for a group for transpeople and those who care for them. Are transpeople some kind of invalid?

Carmichael: Young people's service tends to be one where time on the blocker is for thinking about next steps. Adult services "go straight to cross-sex hormones". Offering young people choice for a more exploratory service (but - no choice for under 17s?) #TransHealthConf2019

This is on at Bristol Uni right now. Don’t know if anyone is asking questions.

Olsen-Kennedy: I continue to be astonished that pre-pubescent kids are put on psychiatric drugs to manage distress rather than just be allowed to dress and behave how they want to.

Sadly that is probably waht TRAs would call 'literal violence' or 'denying their existence'.

I mean fancy that, a clinician saying just be who you are, we can sort out the physicalities once you have explored the possibilities.

The 'horror of long waits' could be assuaged by lots of talking therapy...

Green: I hear time and time again from young people [attending GIDS] that they do not feel heard, that they feel judged. This whole procedure is losing the voice of the young people and they need autonomy. #TransHealthConf2019

Carmichael: There is a range of experience, and Mermaids don't see everyone.

Young people need autonomy

You're fucking joking right Susie? My teens are pretty batshit. As was I at that age.

Have these people any sense whatsoever?

You are doing well. I looked through the hashtag...…………….what a bunchSad

OldCrone · 29/03/2019 12:36

I've just been looking at some of the tweets on the hashtag, and saw this tweeted by DadTrans:

"When just on blockers, trans adolescents are having to go through medically induced menapause age 13, 14, 15. This is what GIDS is causing in their current protocol. This is not cautious."

twitter.com/DadTrans/status/1111593664919285760

It took me a while to realise that what he means by this is not that blockers shouldn't be used, but that children should be on cross-sex hormones.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/03/2019 12:49

Are transpeople some kind of invalid?

I'm sure in one of the Stonewall surveys a really surprisingly high percentage of the trans respondents identified as having a disability.

JellySlice · 29/03/2019 13:12

Are transpeople some kind of invalid? Once their healthy bodies have been damaged by puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones, and they are then dependent on a lifetime of medication, plus more medication to deal with the side-effects of these medications, plus surgery (in the case of females on testosterone) to deal with the consequences of these clinically un-necessary medications, not to mention the consequences of major cosmetic surgery, yes, they probably will be.

RepealTheGRA · 29/03/2019 14:08

Have these people any sense whatsoever?

That would be a ‘No’.

Melroses · 29/03/2019 14:15

@Transgendertrd 46m

Important point from Polly Carmichael this morning that we must not confound pragmatic issues (such as waiting times for example) with differences in protocols around care.
#TransHealthConf2019

@NotRightRuth

Taking a pause on the livetweeting from #TransHealthConf2019 for now - but if you're here, you may get a chance to see me present on initial findings from the

talking about their fabulous Pride in Practice programme in primary care #TransHealthConf2019

It has to be 'fabulous'

R0wantrees · 29/03/2019 14:19

So who lobbied the NHS to conflate the sex marker with gender identity?

Who has protested and complained when NHS sex markers have not been changed on request from m to f or f to m?

Hasn't Dr Ben Vincent been involved in influencing NHS sex/gender identity policy?

Melroses · 29/03/2019 14:22

There is no whole population prostate screening programme atm as the risks do not outweigh the benefits of doing this. If you feel you need a blood test, then you ask.

pombear · 29/03/2019 14:23

Oh no, RO!

That means, erm well, doesn't that mean that there will have to be another marker on medical records as well as gender identity to indicate 'potential prostate-haver', or 'potential cervix-haver'.

Someone's going to have to think of some words to describe those biological facts...

MenuPlant · 29/03/2019 14:24

"I continue to be astonished that pre-pubescent kids are put on psychiatric drugs to manage distress rather than just be allowed to dress and behave how they want to."

i will be flabbergasted if there are children in the UK who are on drugs used to treat psychiatric disorders simply for being GNC.

The ones who might be are the ones who have parents deeply wed to gender roles / homophobic who cause distress in their GNC children, I suppose.

But no-one is drugging children because and only because they like the things / adopt the mannerisms etc of those stereotyped for the opposite sex.

they just come out with this quite obvious drivel and everyone just nods and agrees it's so weird.

OvaHere · 29/03/2019 14:27

Green notes the damage that happens to young trans and gender nonconforming people during long waits, many of whom are undergoing irreversible changes of puberty while waiting.

This is such a disingenuous way to frame puberty given the evidence that in the majority of cases going through a natural puberty will alleviate feelings of gender dysphoria and most kids come out the other side having reconnected and made peace with their bodies and their sex.

Why would someone not hope that their child is one of the majority that ages out of gender dysphoria via pubertyand want to give that possibility a chance?

MenuPlant · 29/03/2019 14:29

If it's about school uniform then I agree that it should be everything for everyone

However girls have had to fight long and hard to be allowed to wear trousers

And now in some schools they are being denied skirts, they have to wear trousers as they are "gender neutral" apparently

Why aren't the parents of GNC kids fighting for schools and things to have non gendered uniform?

The answer of "let's pretend biological sex doesn't exist and remove all ability for males / females as a group to be counted for any kind of statistical purposes eg exams health etc or have their different needs recognised, just put my kid in the "other" box" is such a regressive and frankly silly answer.

Melroses · 29/03/2019 14:30

how many meetings of old white cis clinicians talking down trans people do we have to have before people accept the only viable solution is to destroy the system #transhealthconf2019

Hmm
MenuPlant · 29/03/2019 14:33

Are the ones who want trans people to all be trained to operate on each other, given any and all drugs they want there?

Action for trans health i tihnk it is

also for all trans people to be released from prison immedaitely

jess bradley's bunch

you know jess bradley the trans activist who has advised the govt and likes getting their cock out at bus stops

MenuPlant · 29/03/2019 14:35

Dysphoria around your body is v v common on the run into / and through puberty

Especially for girls

This is continually overlooked. Which implies that "cis" girls have no such issues, enjoy the attention they suddenly start getting from much older men and all the rest of it.

This link is to a twitter post of an article entitled Gender Incongruence in Children, Adolescents and Adults in The British Journal of General Practice. It’s by Susan Bewley, Damien Clifford, Margaret McCartney and Richard Byng.

Who I think have a much more evidence based take on the issue than those speaking at the conference.
