Need to see what comes out of this, Polly Carmichael, GIDS, Mermaids all involved:

Someone tweeting as it goes:

conflate the sex marker with gender identity?

I find any research into trans health issues (and the tweets coming from the conference) impossible to read as they refuse to name the important identifying factor that determines health needs. They cite statistics about 'trans people' but 'trans people' are not a homogeneous group. They come in two distinct categories e.g some trans people are at risk of prostate cancer while others have zero risk. How can they seriously discuss trans health needs without mentioning that critical qualifying term?

HandsOffMyRights · 29/03/2019 16:24

I was at the doctors last week and saw a notice for a group for transpeople and those who care for them. Are transpeople some kind of invalid?

They get a special section on the GMCUK website though (probably been advised by Drs Harrassop and Dressup)

www.gmc-uk.org/ethical-guidance/ethical-hub/trans-healthcare---advice-based-on-gmc-guidance#mental-health-and-bridging-prescriptions

HandsOffMyRights · 29/03/2019 16:34

I say 'they' but this actually refers to non binary people like somehow that isn't EVERYONE!

Melroses · 29/03/2019 16:38

It seems to be one long rant that the NHS does not run on queer theory.

NotAJellyBaby · 29/03/2019 20:34

From Webberley (why is she even there, I thought she was under investigation by the GMC?!)

"JOK ‘young people do not tell their parents the true extent of their gender dysphoria because they are protecting them. So they get their ADHD / ASD / mental health diagnosis instead.’ #TransHealthConf2019"

Soooo trans young people with co-diagnosed ASD/ADHD don't really have those? They're just making it up to protect their parents? Because, having spent most of my working life as a support worker for young people with ASD, that shit is really hard to fake. Also saying they don't really have those conditions could really impact the learning support those people receive.

NotAJellyBaby · 29/03/2019 20:34

She's just making it up as she fucking goes isn't she

SpeakUpXXWomen · 29/03/2019 20:38

isn't that a rehash of the old disablist trope that all these folk with ADD/ADHD/Autism etc are just making it up?!!

NotAJellyBaby · 29/03/2019 21:01

Yup,12 year olds asking for dangerous experimental drugs DEFS have capacity. If your child is diagnosed with ASD (which has an extensive diagnostic criteria) it's definitely a lie, but if they diagnose themselves with being the opposite sex (which is LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE) then it's 100% true and we should start treatment right away.

I honestly don't want to live on this planet anymore.

NotAJellyBaby · 29/03/2019 21:06

I mean, why even bother having doctors at all? Let's just give everyone of any age a personal laptop, they can enter whatever diagnosis they've decided they have, place an order for whatever medication they've decided they need, and have it shipped to them in an unmarked package. We can fund this scheme by firing all current NHS doctors, selling all the diagnostic equipment, and renting out the now disused medical school buildings to host book signings entitled "apples and orange: my brave and stunning journey to becoming a fruit bat".

I think that's what some in Action For Trans Health have called for

NotAJellyBaby · 29/03/2019 21:50

Sweet. Super glad I racked up thousands of pounds worth of debt going to medical school

NotAJellyBaby · 29/03/2019 22:02

Just saw someone posting this on Twitter. It's spot on and should be on t-shirt and shit:

"So there's something unique about "woman". Either it's a category that unlike any other category has no socially acknowledged boundaries, in which case is it even a category. Or - & this is the one, isn't it? - it's a category of people who are socially not allowed boundaries."

Ereshkigal · 29/03/2019 22:14

That's great.

NotBadConsidering · 29/03/2019 22:23

Well done everyone for keeping an eye on this, time difference meant I had to leave it.

I just wish one person would ask all of those advocating early hormone treatment this:

If a male child goes on puberty blockers, then cross sex hormones, and then surgery, and are left with prepubertal prostate and remnants of prepubertal penis that has been surgically altered, how does that person have an orgasm?

It’s such an obvious negative outcome but no one ever discusses it. The level of prudishness around this is amazing.

The level of prudishness around this is amazing.

The problem is that discussing this would be viewed as sexualising children. Which should make the people pushing for the notion of transgender children stop and think. If you can't discuss the real-life effects of drugs and surgery on children because to do so would be to sexualise those children, should you actually be starting on that path at all?

Very young children who are described as transgender are simply children who don't conform to stereotypes. Adults then tell them that their bodies are 'wrong'. If children are too young to understand about sexual relationships, how can they 'know' that there is something 'wrong' with a part of their body which is used for sex and reproduction? How can they consent to giving up the possibility of a normal sexual relationship when they don't yet understand what that means?

Cloven · 30/03/2019 13:23

"JOK ‘young people do not tell their parents the true extent of their gender dysphoria because they are protecting them. So they get their ADHD / ASD / mental health diagnosis instead.’

THIS IS A CULT TRYING TO RECRUIT CHILDREN*. How can anyone read shit like this and not see it? This is an ad hoc rationalisation for maximising the number of trans-identified kids in the system.

*And then sterilise them and give them drugs which reduce their IQ because the author of this dystopian nightmare is a heavy-handed hack.

NotAJellyBaby · 30/03/2019 14:27

Yup, ad-hoc rationalisation is exactly what it is. I've seen similar from Webberley and her ilk on the link between eating disorders and being trans in young girls. It's not that they're both the result of growing up in a society that teaches women to hate their bodies, no, it's that trans children are using eating disorder to self medicate and using extreme weight loss as a kind of puberty blocker to stop periods etc. Whilst the idea that eating disorders can be triggered by a fear of growing up and entering puberty is not a new one, the narrative was always that the child's body was right whilst society was feeding them the wrong messages about their body based on stereotypes. Now the narrative is that society is feeding them the right message based on stereotypes but that their bodies are in fact wrong. That they're correct to try and stop puberty and change their bodies - they should just be using medication rather than food to do it. This really will go down in history as the most repulsive child abuse scandal of all time.

Absolutely 100%. It’s so incredibly sad that people like Jazz Jennings will never experience this.
