They couldn't bear the truth! Smile
I have to wonder what world these students are living in. A fantasy world?
(Sorry if this has been already posted -- I've been of MN for a day or two but didn't see it in any thread title.

Wow - some reaction. I had a pet rabbit when I was little. Even she could tell the difference between male humans and female humans (she liked female people and actually growled at anyone male!). I have 3 children and discussing these biology issues with them, they seem to have no difficulty grasping reality.

GerryblewuptheER · 28/03/2019 09:15

What the hell can you say to that. some one mentions biology and they walk put.

That's gonna bite them on the arse in a few tears time.

I'm.embarassed fir them

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 28/03/2019 09:16

That poor kid who was banging on about nazis doesn't really know what nazism is

This is a big part of the issue I think, if more people actually knew the history and tactics of the Nazi party rise to power, more would draw parallels to their own behaviour.
However world war two isn't taught in US schools anymore and history around the rise of the Nazi party is very watered down here.

Good article nauticant. Everyone should study the Chinese cultural revolution. As the author points out, it didn't start with the Red Guards charging around arresting and executing people. It started when educated people, including university professors, bought into (or failed to challenge) political conformity and group think.

Scary how few signs there are of critical thinking these days. Nietzsche once warned that “the surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently.”

abuseofpowercomesasnosurprise · 28/03/2019 09:43

Helen Pluckrose and Peter Boghossian in the clip who did the Grievance Studies affair.
The woman speaking about biology at which the student walk out if Heather Heyling, wife of Brett Weinstein. They refused to stay off campus when there was a dedicated people of colour only day at Evergreen State.

Ereshkigal · 28/03/2019 09:53

Also had a rabbit who growled at men Grin

CallMeWoman · 28/03/2019 09:55

nauticant thanks for sharing that article. I didn't know about the Chinese cultural revolution so I think I'll add that to my list. Only 50 years ago!

The internet makes it much easier to infect a wider populace with similar thinking, I fear.

drspouse · 28/03/2019 09:56

I'm not sure that evolutionary psychology (men and women are different because hunter gatherers) is a great ally in the gender wars. They do great stuff on animals but then make huge extrapolations into humans. She seems like she's a proper animal researcher though who is then taking it upon herself to explain human behaviour too.

OrchidInTheSun · 28/03/2019 10:01

You what?!

PierreBezukov · 28/03/2019 10:04

Yes especially when social media companies start imposing censorship. Twitter are already doing this. Shutting down free speech, making it a 'hate crime' for someone to air views (or indeed state facts) simply because they offend someone else, well.... It's all pretty chilling.

TheFrontHoleIsConnectedToThe · 28/03/2019 10:06

The problem is that 'walking out' does fuck all. When you're trying to make a point to an employer or the government then it can be useful if you do it in a large group and stop production. But three teenagers shouting about nazis and "fuck the police" (Ice Cube she is not) is just embarrassing.

They had the actual people there for a discussion. If they wanted to argue a point they could have put their hand up and argued it. That would have made everyone there question it.

Anyway in honour of the "Turquoise Haired Three" today's ear worm.

TheFrontHoleIsConnectedToThe · 28/03/2019 10:09

However world war two isn't taught in US schools anymore

Hmm

It most definitely was when I was in school I'd be pretty shocked if there had been a huge policy change there.

I was pretty shocked by this thread on MN though a couple of years back. People were missing a pretty basic knowledge of WW2. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2936619-to-think-its-finally-time-England-deals-with-its-Katy-Hopkins-problem

BadPennyNoBiscuit · 28/03/2019 10:10

So they've taken us full circle from us being able to learn about our own bodies without shame, back round to 'women your bodies are offensive to men and should not be discussed in polite society''.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 28/03/2019 10:15

People were missing a pretty basic knowledge of WW2

Yes they are, which is my point.
No idea why you did the Hmm face.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 28/03/2019 10:16

Why do they always have shitty blue hair? 😂😂😂 it’s like a uniform.

nauticant · 28/03/2019 10:19

PierreBezukov and CallMeWoman, when I see aggressive trans activists pushing their ideology in a very authoritarian way, speaking in terms of silencing and justifying violence, my mind tends to bring up the Cultural Revolution and Khmer Rouge youth cadres.

ShiveringCoyote · 28/03/2019 10:21

@Sarahjconnor you could probably call the police for them making you ill. Actual hurty instead of hurty feelz.

Wasabiaddiction · 28/03/2019 10:29

If you want to know about this, then follow Benjamin Boyce on YouTube. He has a great series of what happened at Evergreen.

And more recently is interviewing some very interesting trans people and detransitioners.

He really is a brilliant interviewer.

Wasabiaddiction · 28/03/2019 10:31

Also Mike Nayna - he films the two who walked out of that talk and asks them why.

The incoherence is truest shocking.

TheFrontHoleIsConnectedToThe · 28/03/2019 10:35

Yes they are, which is my point. No idea why you did the hmm face.

Because Mners are mostly adults from the UK. So maybe it is possible that the UK wasn't teaching WW2 15 years ago. But I know for a fact that it wasn't the case in the states 15 years ago. And as I had said, I'd be shocked if that has changed now.

GCAcademic · 28/03/2019 10:38

Why do they always have shitty blue hair?

One of the comments on the protestors' behaviour on that legal insurrection article linked above asks: "Is it caused by the hair dye?" Grin

ILoveMaxiBondi · 28/03/2019 10:44

Grin GC!

TheFrontHoleIsConnectedToThe · 28/03/2019 10:44

Aw I had my turquoise hair I must admit.

But it was when I was 15 like you're supposed to.

Graphista · 28/03/2019 11:02

"Whatever happened to people going to higher education to broaden their minds? People are definitely getting dumber and less tolerant." This very well sums up what I thought.

I'm pissed off that the protesting students are assumed to be left wing and that those of us that are liberal/left wing in our outlook aren't thought to be gender critical, particularly as has often been pointed out on the subject on mn and rightly so that the extremist trans views are actually rooted in conservative misogyny!

Frankly these students (who apparently couldn't even come up with a decent pro trans argument! In terms of uni fees if I were their parents I'd be considering THAT fact meant their fees were a waste of money!) just come across as spoilt, privileged brats who likely have never experienced true oppression.

"However world war two isn't taught in US schools anymore and history around the rise of the Nazi party is very watered down here." Really?! Why on earth not?

DangermousesSidekick · 28/03/2019 11:19

"So they've taken us full circle from us being able to learn about our own bodies without shame, back round to 'women your bodies are offensive to men and should not be discussed in polite society''."

This. People are nazis because biology is real?? Surely everyone can now see this for the toddler's temper tantrum it really is?
