Apparently J McA is now the subject of an official complaint to the SNP after her recent comments on the subject of the Equality Act/Self ID/criminal recording, etc.

If you'd like to contact the SNP to let them know you support Joan McAlpine's recent stance on protecting the right of women and girls - or even just that you support the idea that we all ought to be able to rationally and respectfully discuss matters pertaining to our rights, you can contact them here:

I'm not in scotland but I have sent a message saying how impressed I am by Joan's stanch defense of women's rights, and that she is a credit to the SNP.

ToeToToe · 22/03/2019 12:27

That's really crap - not totally unexpected I suppose. I think she's been great. I will send a message of support later.

littlbrowndog · 22/03/2019 12:28

Will do

heresyisthenewblack · 22/03/2019 12:32

Joan Flowers
Will write something.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 22/03/2019 12:33

I realised I should probably add that I have no firm information on this complaint. But she is certainly attracting criticism on social media; I think it quite likely that she could use a bit of support.

If, as she has said, other MPs/MSPs are in agreement wtih her but afraid to speak out, messages of support may help them to do so.

I doubt they'd have a leg to stand on. Joan has simply stated fact. The SNP understand politics enough not to attract the wrath of half the electorate! Surely?

But write anyway to make sure they do realise!

Daughterofmabel · 22/03/2019 12:45

Done. Also tweeted support and emailed Joan herself

scotsheather · 22/03/2019 13:04

She does appear to be deviating from the party position on self id so it depends if the party consider this a conscience matter and one members can speak against. Sometimes the lone voice turns out right.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 22/03/2019 13:11

Thank goodness someone is, scotsheather. I'll be interested to hear what the SNP response is.

Done! Pointed out it is not transphobic to state biological facts.

morningtoncrescent62 · 22/03/2019 14:23

Thanks, OP, I've just used your link to contact SNP to say I hope they appreciate what an asset Joan is to their party. I wouldn't ever vote SNP (I didn't say that!) but irrespective of party lines, she's a shining example of the kind of leadership we should be able to expect from parliamentarians but don't often actually get. Intelligent, principled and courageous.

WhatTheWatersShowedMe · 22/03/2019 14:46

I've written to them as well, thanks for the link.

TheythemThar · 22/03/2019 15:18

Will do so. I sent her a FB message of support when she stuck her head above the parapet and will send another one. Scotland seems especially fucked on this front and the SNP need to know that women like Joan have a LOT of support FGS listen to her!

AgentProvocateur · 22/03/2019 15:19

I’m a member, so I will write in her support.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 22/03/2019 15:34

Not a member, never been a nationalist - but, I'd vote for whichever party protected single sex spaces.

I'll write to tell them that.

Joan's right, Wee Nickla's wrong. They can have my vote if they support Joan.

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 22/03/2019 15:36

Will do today

Chrysanthemum5 · 22/03/2019 15:57

Done had a very quick reply saying they would pass the message on and let Joan know as well. Fairly impressed by that

ScrimshawTheSecond · 22/03/2019 16:06

Reply:

'Thank you for getting in touch with us.

I’ll be sure to pass on your comments, including those of support to Joan.'

  • not sure to whom my comments will be passed, but at least I've not had the polis round to question me for thought crime. As yet.

Just emailed to tell them what an amazing positive example she is and how they should be proud of her.

scotsheather · 22/03/2019 17:04

Not a member, never been a nationalist - but, I'd vote for whichever party protected single sex spaces.

Of the main parties I'd say Tories are the most likely but I couldn't vote for them with their callous handling of women in the welfare state and the disabled, never mind the Brexit scandal. Call me politically homeless.

Orwellianmince · 22/03/2019 17:05

This is outrageous-a complaint because she is doing the job she was elected to do?! Look at all the views of those who are affected by legislation before making Laws! We don't want lukewarm MSPs/MPs who are afraid to stick their heads above the parapet on behalf of their constituents or wider EA2010 protected groups, like women under "sex". We don't want robotic men, like the Lib Dem MSP at the Census Bill, giving anecdotes about his children and churning out mantras, like the Green MSPs, requiring no consideration of the conflict of rights between protected groups. We don't want people like Labour LM pulling strings in their Thought Police groups targeting any women who dare to speak out on behalf of women or heaven forbid Like a Social Media post about it. Any female politicians who support this witchhunt need to watch: All about Eve.
And we don't want men-whether Union reps or Councillors mansplaining what "True" Feminism is to women who have been one all their FN lives.
Joan McAlpine speaks up for ordinary women who are NOT against any other vulnerable group but who are sick to the back teeth of so called "feminists" who gaily wave away our rights (including the language we use to define ourselves) as if theirs to give away. We are not Womxn or non males. Any event advertised as such is a non women event if for men (however they define themselves that day) too. And do not make out Feminism which does not centre women is called that-it is one thing including Transwomen and quite another including men who say they are entitled to be treated the same on the day the prizes/posts/places in jails are being allocated.

morningtoncrescent62 · 22/03/2019 17:53

I had an identical reply, Scrimshaw, from someone who gave their name as 'Richy'.

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 22/03/2019 18:01

Done!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 22/03/2019 18:10

I've sent a message of support to - and that they should be proud to hav

SchadenfreudePersonified · 22/03/2019 18:11

I've sent a message too, and said that they should be proud to have her in the party.
