Apparently J McA is now the subject of an official complaint to the SNP after her recent comments on the subject of the Equality Act/Self ID/criminal recording, etc.

If you'd like to contact the SNP to let them know you support Joan McAlpine's recent stance on protecting the right of women and girls - or even just that you support the idea that we all ought to be able to rationally and respectfully discuss matters pertaining to our rights, you can contact them here:

Sorry - don't know how the half message got posted

OrderOrder75 · 22/03/2019 18:27

I will do. But Joan is in a minority of the SNP. The SNP as a party are the wokest of the woke.

Moralitym1n1 · 22/03/2019 21:11

Do you have to be living in Scotland?

Soulsal · 22/03/2019 21:17

I wrote and haven't had a reply from SNP at all. Will also message Joan.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 22/03/2019 22:13

Morality I don't imagine so? Perhaps messages from potential constituents will carry more weight, but I expect all communication from UK voters could be useful. The SNP like to know about popular opinion!

I resigned my membership of the SNP after an email reply from my SNP MP regarding my concerns about the erosion of women's sex based rights - she said the debate was 'transphobic', the implication being therefore that I was transphobic by raising the issue with her.

I have the utmost admiration for Joan McAlpine. I wish she was my MSP.

Katvonmythicbiowoman · 22/03/2019 22:26

Is there any point when they'll stop trying to bully women?

They are such fucking obnoxious arseholes

GrumpyGran8 · 23/03/2019 12:38

I have the utmost admiration for Joan McAlpine. I wish she was my MSP.
She's my MSP, and I'm very happy with her. I've written the SNP to say so.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 23/03/2019 19:20

One of the complainants is Gregor "sparkly wellies" Murray.

twitter.com/ForwomenScot/status/1109387340970147842?s=20

You may remember him from the time he got tired and emotional and was forced to be hideously misogynist online leading to his resignation as children's convener.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3332582-Trans-councillor-leaves-roles-after-threats-to-life?pg=1&order=

He is currently being vile about Joan. Might be worth a complaint? Saying she is a bigot and needs to resign. Apparently suggesting male pattern offending doesn't change is wrong because, that's right, TW aren't men...

littlbrowndog · 23/03/2019 19:23

He’s the one tha5 called women cunts isn’t he ?

Sexnotgender · 23/03/2019 19:27

Gregor Murray is a weapons grade arsehole.

I've emailed the SNP with my support for Joan.

Orwellianmince · 23/03/2019 19:42

I posted in the other thread about this Twit-didn't know being discussed here too so will copy:
Never heard of Gregor Fisher Murray or read this thread till I saw they (singular) were having a rant (a tirade actually) at the respected Joan McAlpine. Has my name is not Simon ever achieved anything other than a reputation for making misogynistic online comments towards a series of women over the years.Hmm They (singular) are still at it-a "Cooncillor" makin stuff up online to attack an MSP. Just looks like "they" (singular) feel threatened by her/strong lassies (& some lads I see) who aren't putting up with their shxxx any more.
Says they (singular) want to leave the SNP Party. Naebodies stoppin ye.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 23/03/2019 19:57

Orwell magnificent!

Wonder who might garner more votes for the SNP? One rightly described as a weapons grade arsehole who did, indeed, call women "cunts" (and other things) or someone who has defended women in thoughtful and reasonable fashion.

Oh, and Mhairi Hunter (rightly described as sleekit) was also having a pop with Rhiannon TIE letter Spear because Joan had temerity to object to use of "womxn"

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 23/03/2019 19:58

And that's another good point. Why is he hiding under "my name is not Simon"? Is he embarrassed? I mean, he should be...

failingatlife · 23/03/2019 20:04

Done.

Mrscaindingle · 23/03/2019 20:21

Have also written to them, I actually joined Twitter to tell Joan how important her voice is.
I am an SNP used to be Labour voter and will never vote for them again if this
(whatever it is) is upheld. I am really running out of parties to vote for!!

goodthinking99 · 23/03/2019 20:25

Done.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 23/03/2019 20:59

Well done, everyone who's written.

I think it's actually not all that common for people to write to political parties - maybe someone who knows more will put me right? - usually it's individual MPs. I'd be interested to find out if this approach has any effect.

OP posts:
rocketromano · 23/03/2019 21:44

Done. I also mentioned that I had emailed my own MSP about Joan but she hadn’t responded Hmm

Orwellianmince · 24/03/2019 00:31

@Alicethroughtheblackmirror Thanks!

KataraJean · 24/03/2019 08:30

I increasingly think, for a number of reasons, that the SNP is really quite conservative behind its woke progressive facade.

Same sex marriage is after all arguably imposing a very traditional institution on gay couples, rather than making civil partnerships the default for all and leaving a religious and patriarchal institution out of it.

Gender self ID is at heart quite homophobic and conservative as it embeds the idea that men and women should present a certain way, and if they deviate, they are trans. Whereas a progressive response would be to say present how you like, but protect women’s spaces and places.

The SNP are not interested in women’s spaces and places. There are other examples - such as Families need fathers having a membership of the Family Law Commission, but no women’s organisation similarly represented. This is a problem given the way in which courts can be used to perpetuate abuse and the Scottish government is supposed to recognise coercive control and domestic abuse. Obviously a different issue than self-ID but part of a pattern which elevates men’s rights over women’s and children’s needs.

WinnieHug · 24/03/2019 12:45

I noticed a TRA on twitter giving Joan a really hard time, it's bordering on obsessive and is most certainly harassment. Lots of what is being claimed is just plain lies and they are targeting other senior MSPs, telling them Joan is a transphobe, that what she is saying is hate speech, that Joan is in breach of the Equality Act and she should be made to resign. Do people think it might be worth reporting to police scotland?

Joan is ignoring it so she probably has them blocked or muted but I still think it's harmful as it might stop other msps from speaking out if they think this is what's in store for them.

Here's a link, the TRA account is @indytash

WinnieHug · 24/03/2019 12:51

Oh, that was quick, they've shut their account down. Interesting, I reckon they realised they were in for a pretty massive lawsuit!

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 24/03/2019 17:13

Winnie I saw that person's tweets earlier, they were dreadful and a neat illustration of why it's almost impossible to have a rational debate.

boatyardblues · 24/03/2019 20:12

I sent Joan a message of support via snailmail recently. She must be getting so much grief right now, but her calm, clear arguments for maintaining the distinction between sex & gender are sorely needed right now. I hope she is OK.
