I cried at this week's Fleabag

The scene with Phoebe Waller Bridge and Kristin Scott Thomas in the bar. Trying to avoid spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen it, but you so rarely get to hear anything positive about ageing. It was really moving and liberating to hear what KST's character had to say about approaching 60, and how much better it is than being in your 30s. I'm turning 40 this year and looking forward to leaving the depression and insecurities of my 30s behind, and I really loved this scene

Yes, I loved that scene too. Superbly written and acted. Phoebe Waller Bridge is brilliant.

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 19/03/2019 15:01

....and I also liked how the KST character (Belinda?) actually talked about the biological reality of being a woman, which rarely gets mentioned on tv.

BixBeiderbecke · 19/03/2019 15:07

Yes it was fantastic.

GraceMarks · 19/03/2019 15:51

Ooh, I love Fleabag, but have to watch it on iPlayer the next day because it's on way too late for me. I shall look forward to this. I'm turning 40 this year too and the number of people who have talked to me about it in hushed tones as if I were about to be taken outside and shot has depressed me much more than the fact of ageing. I wish the BBC didn't tuck such programming away at such unsociable hours!

Lottapianos · 19/03/2019 15:55

Happy 40th Grace, for whenever it is! Come back and tell us what you think of the episode when you watch it

Fleabag is my bag. I love it! Love it!

Such a great episode.

GarthFunkel · 19/03/2019 16:11

It was a bit of a eurekha moment - like when Jane Garvey interviewed Sally Hines and Kathleen Stock and said "we’ve got to make this conversation relevant to our listeners and many of our listeners have had tough lives for one reason or another and that they may now – still – be facilitating the lives of others. Possibly they’ve done nothing but that for the last 50 years. And it’s hardly surprising that some of those women are feeling that their hard won rights are somewhat vulnerable at the moment Sally to the progress of some other – for example – transwomen" and I thought yes, that's all I bloody do, facilitate the lives of others - and it's also the last thing any transwoman would put on a list of "what real women do."

Lottapianos · 19/03/2019 16:17

'that's all I bloody do, facilitate the lives of others - and it's also the last thing any transwoman would put on a list of "what real women do."'

Well said. Endlessly putting others first is how so many women lead their lives. We're conditioned into it from our earliest days. Its reality for so many women, and it's a far cry from 'buying mascara' and 'wearing heels' which seems to be what mostly occupies our heads according to some trans women Hmm

Having just dealt with a close friend feeling sucidal for most of my day -amen to that lotta

TinklyLittleLaugh · 19/03/2019 16:33

So weird, just this week I have had an identical conversation with my DD about the joys of being free of menstruation and erratic hormone fluctuations and the male gaze and, well, basically realising you give zero fucks and how liberating that is.

Lottapianos · 19/03/2019 16:39

On a shallow note, how utterly divine and dreamy does Kristin Scott Thomas look?! She has wrinkles, and she's clearly not trying to look like she's 25, and that's really refreshing too. No stretchy cat face Botox for her!

I haven't watched it yet, am trying to save the episodes up til the series is finished so I can watch it all at once, loved the last series so much. And I love being older, can honestly say I understand myself (and other people) better and am more content in my skin than I've ever been, just wish it hadn't taken me so bloody long to get here Grin

ToeToToe · 19/03/2019 17:39

Yes it was great - so refreshing. I loved this week's whole episode - my favourite yet I think. So funny Grin And I adore Kristin Scott Thomas.

GraceMarks · 19/03/2019 17:42

Thanks Lotta, just a couple of months more of being a 30-something for me!

Tbf, KST can afford to be relaxed about ageing because she looks like that. But any message that being an older woman is anything other than a tragedy is fine by me.

So many great women in this series - Kristin Scott Thomas, Fiona Shaw, Olivia Colman, Phoebe Waller Bridge herself. I suppose Bill Paterson and Andrew Scott are ok too Smile . Why it doesn't get a 9pm Friday night slot, I don't know. Is it because there are sweary women in it?

Barbarafromblackpool · 19/03/2019 17:44

Fleabag is fricking marvellous

AgnesNaismith · 19/03/2019 17:48

Every week I shout ‘nooooooo’ when the credits roll, such brilliant writing, acting and the funniest show written ever - it seems effortless.

noraclavicle · 19/03/2019 17:49

It’s an astonishingly good programme - and this week’s episode was a total belter!

Meralia · 19/03/2019 17:52

I loved fleabag! Is this a repeat of series 1 or a new series?

Haggisfish · 19/03/2019 17:52

Oooooh I’ve read so much about this series and haven’t watched any of the show yet!! Can’t wait for a binge.

ToeToToe · 19/03/2019 17:52

Series 2, Meralia - and it gets better & better. Get thee to iplayer Grin

RuggyPeg · 19/03/2019 17:57

God I LOVE it! I literally can't take my eyes off it. I don't want to miss a single word or look. How amazing was it at the end when the priest asked what she was doing!!! Phoebe waller wotsit is a genius writer. Oh and for all the 40 year olds, 40 is easy. Wait til you're late 40s and your face starts melting!!

ToeToToe · 19/03/2019 18:04

She wrote Killing Eve as well didn't she? Another fantastic series!

So woman-centred.

ChattyLion · 19/03/2019 18:09

I thought the second series was better too -and it was a great scene.

BikeRunSki · 19/03/2019 18:27

The KST bar scene was marvellous.,

Lottapianos · 19/03/2019 18:49

'Tbf, KST can afford to be relaxed about ageing because she looks like that '

It's true, she's always been a gorgeous woman

Its SUCH an enjoyable program. The writing and performances just sparkle. Grace, it totally should be on at primetime on a Friday, it's a crying shame that it's on so late on a Monday
