It's #internationalwomensday - lets continue to advocate for the equality of all women. Gender is ever expanding & does not only apply to just cisgender women, but to women of all gender identities & expressions

This post on the work intranet makes me seeth. Especially as people are liking and agreeing with it.
How do I respectfully comment and turn around the narrative? Maybe I should just let it go....?

It's really tricky, because anything critical will presumably be seen as transphobic/bigoted/whatever. Also I presume you can't respond anonymously?

Maybe you could post something unrelated to gender, but related to IWD and refer to the harmful effects of sex-based stereotypes on women and girls.

AssassinatedBeauty · 16/03/2019 18:22

"Gender is ever expanding" - this is complete meaningless nonsense, and is possibly the most irritating bit. It completely ignores the idea that "gender" is used and has been used to control women (and men, in a different way) based on their sex.

Katvonchangedlightbulb · 16/03/2019 18:22

Thank you for supporting women. There is still such a way to go before we are rid of sexual stereotypes that harm us all. My heart goes out to women all round the world who are victims of sex based oppression.

E.g.
😘 my arse you sexist wankers

AssassinatedBeauty · 16/03/2019 18:23

Oh, that's good @Katvonchangedlightbulb

EcclesThePeacock · 16/03/2019 18:26

Yes, maybe something about finding ways to effectively counter structural sexism? Can you think of a genuine issue affecting your workplace and make a constructive suggestion or suchlike?

sackrifice · 16/03/2019 18:29

Has your workplace given their pay gap stats? Refer to that and how you would like to see them put their money where their mouth is and improve on the figures somewhat.

Rubusfruticosus · 16/03/2019 18:29

Could be read as women = adult human females, of all gender identities and expressions. So women who do mostly identify with female sex stereotypes, those who identify with mostly male sex stereotypes, and the majority who fall somewhere in the middle.

terfsandwich · 16/03/2019 18:32

I would wholeheartedly agree then say "and that's why we need to support Action For Trans Health in their campaign to let transwomen into the main part of women's prisons" and then post a link to their manifesto. No one could accuse you of being a transphobe but you are helping peak people.

terfsandwich · 16/03/2019 18:36

You could even say "and that's why UN campaigns for women to access single sex toilets in India are so regressive. Transwomen are women! There should be no policing of people entering toilets based on assumptions they are a man! End the stereotypes that transwomen who have beards, suits and ties are not women! "

EcclesThePeacock · 16/03/2019 18:38

Tempting, but probably a dangerous strategy!Grin

AssassinatedBeauty · 16/03/2019 18:41

I wonder whether it's worth posting a series of posts about issues that affect women and girls, that are related to your work where possible. Just to counter all the woke back patting.

RussellSprout · 16/03/2019 18:44

Don't have any suggestions but think you need to go for the approach of saying something just the right side of pisstake to peak people and make them wonder if you really mean it.

Tricky line to tread though.

RussellSprout · 16/03/2019 18:44

What about a reference to sport, and everyone's favourite cyclist?

MayFayner · 16/03/2019 18:48

Gender is ever expanding & does not only apply to just cisgender women, but to women of all gender identities & expressions

Besides being bollocks, this makes no grammatical sense.

AssassinatedBeauty · 16/03/2019 18:49

Yep. It's woke word vomit.

Toorahtoorahaye · 16/03/2019 18:58

Could agree and say you are surprised and saddened the way transphobes Navratilova, Davies, Holmes, Gunnell, Holmes, Sanderson, Thompson and Cracknell have rejected TW in sport - add a nice picture of McKinnon on the podioum

FemalePersonator · 16/03/2019 19:01

"Gender is ever-expanding." Your response could be something along the lines of "True. But sex is unchangeable."

terfsandwich · 16/03/2019 19:04

Yes! I would say its saddening that you read Sharon Davies say all elite female athletes she spoke to privately think transwomen in sport are cheating. Say how pleased you are that none of them are prepared to say their transphobic thoughts publicly, and how good it is they would be attacked on social media if they did.

terfsandwich · 16/03/2019 19:08

Or you could comment sadly, with a link to Pip Bunce, that you wonder how many people share his feelings but are too afraid to come out and do the lady some days thing at work. Post a link to Stonewall's "acceptance without exception" list and say how sad you are that kink shaming means men who are cross dressers do not feel free to express their kink at work like Pips Bunce does. End with a comment about sex positivity. That usually shuts down responses.

kesstrel · 16/03/2019 19:15

It's religious. "Our faith is ever-expanding, and doesn't apply only to us, but to all the peoples of the world". It's a parallel of what Paul said about Christianity should encompass not just the Jewish people, as the disciples originally thought, but must be extended to the Gentiles as well. Totally, totally bizarre

kesstrel · 16/03/2019 19:17

Love all the suggested replies, though.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 16/03/2019 19:22

Actually giggling out loud here and I am normally a right po face about things I read online. Pleeeeeaaaseee use some of these

Alternatively just reply "pardon?" As that email just looks like a jumble of words

Did a man write it, by the way?

EcclesThePeacock · 16/03/2019 19:24

In next week's FWR news, an MNer who unbeknownst to the OP works at the same company will be here in distress at the responses to the original comment from a woman she'd previously hoped was a fellow feminist but who's outwoked the woke.Grin

ginghamstarfish · 16/03/2019 19:38

What a pile of utter crap. Agree you should not let it go unchallenged though, good ideas above re peak transing ...

GenderIsAPrison · 16/03/2019 20:24

Great suggestions MN. Thank you.

It is a difficult line to tread, as it is work and not anonymous.

@gobolinothewitchscat. Yes it was a man that wrote it.
Rainbow 🌈 flag as back ground in his profile picture...oh...and a beard....Yep. Caricature of a cliche....

@ecclesthepeacock. That could well happen....
