Anti-terf joke by York LGBT forum co-chair

Spotted this today, an anti-terf joke by Lisa Kelly, bio reads:
#Transgender & #LGBT activist,@YorkLGBT Forum co-chair. part of the 'Free to be me' team.
'Free to be me' so long as you don't define a woman as adult human female or is a lesbian who refueses 'ladydick', it seems, in which case you are given the witches' bridle. I'm astounded this is acceptable - what if we changed the word 'Terf' to 'Trans', how would that sound? - and yet GC's are the ones accused of bigotry. Also, the typo is unfortunate and somewhat undermines the 'joke'...

I don’t get it.

AnyOldPrion · 15/03/2019 13:02

I suspect there’s nothing to get. It’s another insult dressed up as a “joke”. Abuser style 101.

DpWm · 15/03/2019 13:04

Is there a missed out word?
"They don't know how to do simple things"

Or an auto correct error "they don't know how to change things" ?

Either way not funny... And they need to know Terf is a misogynistic slur.

GraceMarks · 15/03/2019 13:06

I don't get it either. Was a word missed out somewhere? She hasn't exactly come across as the brightest spark - perhaps her lightbulb needs to be replaced too?

sackrifice · 15/03/2019 13:06

Oh dear.

Nuffaluff · 15/03/2019 13:07

I think she’s missed a comma out.
‘They don’t know how, simple things.’
Or maybe not.
‘They don’t know how to do simple things.’
Either way, it’s not really a joke is it?

DpWm · 15/03/2019 13:07

Well,
How many York chairs does it take to change a lightbulb?

None. You can't use chairs to change lightbulbs unless they identify as a pair of hands.

Popchyk · 15/03/2019 13:07

They don't know how to do simple things like bow down to men is what that means.

Damn right.

Some people wouldn't want the lightbulb changed me thinks.

They'd rather sit in the dark than be enlightened.

hackmum · 15/03/2019 13:12

Fluffing a not-very-good joke by leaving out an important word - better not give up the day job, eh, sweetie?

abuseofpowercomesasnosurprise · 15/03/2019 13:13

All above answers are more amusing than the original. I suggest they don't give up the day - oh no, wait...

I mean, it is funny. But maybe not for the reason she thought it was.

Someone who formerly identified as a man makes a bad joke about women's intelligence?
My world has just been shattered.

Funkaccino · 15/03/2019 13:22

I might start using simple as a verb to mix things up.

I'm going to simple some dinner tonight honey, I'm feeling a bit lazy.

nauticant · 15/03/2019 13:34

I'm with Nuffaluff, a missing comma:

None, they don't know how to, simple things.

Which would have the joke referring to women as things. But that's the mindset so no surprise there.

Funkaccino · 15/03/2019 13:40

How many TRA would it take I wonder?

You'd need at least one to start a crowd funder.

A second to tell "cis" women they should be centering transwomen in the fight for light related justice.

A third to tell the "cis" woman how she got it wrong.

A fourth to tag Owen Jones in their story of oppression.

The room would get very full very quick.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 15/03/2019 13:45

You're all being mean. If it identifies as a joke it is one. If you're not laughing that's cos you're bigots.

Handay · 15/03/2019 13:48

That joke is brave and stunning. If your humour doesn't centre humourless and incomprehensible strings of words it isn't humour.

That's what I thought when I saw it, shows you how regressive TRA mentality is about sex stereotypes that they'd be using such a worn-out old joke format traditionally used to make women/black people/Irishmen etc appear as simpletons, very revealing Lisa 'Chubby Brown' Kelly.
