Surprisingly for such a woke organisation it seems that all of their members may not be entirely happy with the situation. There have even been deletions Shock

Are there any of the "uniformed" orgs that are showing sense on this? How about boys and girls brigade (do they even exist any more?)

The group leader Fodo makes some sensible points. What a shitshow. Their "role models" Shock

Jackshouse · 15/03/2019 08:35

When I saw the title of the thread my first thought was well they will all be very woke but Woodcraft folk tends to attack critical thinkers and non conformers and I suspect their members are more likely to stand up for what they believe in. Or I maybe spouting stereotypical BS.

Babdoc · 15/03/2019 08:39

It was heartening to see the numbers of posts disagreeing with them and expressing safeguarding and feminist concerns.
And interesting that most of the pro trans posts were from men...

Ereshkigal · 15/03/2019 08:40

Obviously people in the comments calling for #nodebate as other people's fragile identities are being challenged by the mere holding of different opinions about transgender ideology 🙄

littlbrowndog · 15/03/2019 08:40

Well so early in the morning fo4 me to read what Paris lees enjoys

Yuck just yuck

Is lees a role model for woodcraft Folks

Ereshkigal · 15/03/2019 08:41

It's on that silly infographic, littlbrowndog

NeurotrashWarrior · 15/03/2019 08:48

Point two; safeguarding?

One of the women I met through fpfw is v active in woodcraft folk and is peaking people from within, so there is hope that it’s not wholly lost to the woke...

VelvetPineapple · 15/03/2019 09:24

I can understand both sides. Parents of trans girls understandably don’t want them sleeping with boys. They want them with girls where they’re perceived to be safer from male violence. But parents of girls don’t want them sleeping with trans girls for exactly the same reason. In the first scenario the trans girl is seen as the recipient of male violence while in the second she’s seen as the perpetrator. I don’t know what the solution is. I do note, however, that the parents of trans boys don’t seem to be as keen to move them away from the girls and in with the boys where they’ll be the only vagina in the room.

TheythemThar · 15/03/2019 09:36

Paris Lees as a role model for WF- really (aside from the fact she couldn’t even hack it on Celebrity Island!) So glad someone linked to that ‘slut’ piece she wrote for Vice. The one where they have an orgy in a hotel room and Paris gets ‘shut up’ by a man’s cock. Just another reminder of the hypersexualised emphasis of some ‘celebrity’ transgender women (like Bergdorf too) who have come from the vacuous ‘fabulous’ club scene and see sex work as an aspirational goal for women.

I have to say I don’t like the term rent boy applied to a child of 14 in the same way as I don’t like ‘child prostitute’. At that age it’s abuse not a ‘profession’. I do wonder how that type of experience or being in that world at that age can lead to a disassociation from your body. I would want to step into somebody else’s skin too or try and majorly change myself physically to distance myself from my past.

The fact that a chat about The Woodcraft Folk has ended up here shows just how crazy this world has become. I hope the WF catch themselves on.

EcclesThePeacock · 15/03/2019 09:58

How about boys and girls brigade (do they even exist any more?)

They still exist. They're explicitly Christian organisations, I think at the more, shall we say, not necessarily fundamentalist but less wish-washy end of the religious spectrum.

I hope so. I suspect there is an interesting dichotomy within WCF on the one hand it is incredibly woke and enlightened and inclusive, but this means that on the other hand there are a lot of strongly feminist women involved.

I just hope common sense prevails rather than waiting for the first "incident".

Interesting Facebook thread.
Person A makes valid safeguarding question
Person B shrieks die in a fire T*RF

Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 15/03/2019 10:08

The role models though 😂

ColeHawlins · 15/03/2019 10:09

FFS.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/03/2019 10:28

The role models though

I know Grin

For those who don't want to click through:

"Look to positive trans and non binary role models

Fox Fisher
Laverne Cox
Travis Alabama
Munro Bergdof
Paris Lees
Amandla Steinberg"

At least some on that list are deeply shitty role models. Paris Lees in particular who is also pushing prostitution as such an empowering and positive life choice. And wasn't it Fox Fisher who said homosexuality was "deviant"?

OP posts:
Ereshkigal · 15/03/2019 10:36

Yes that was Fox. Fox said that's why gender identity should not be lumped together with being gay, because people saw being gay as deviant. Paraphrasing but that's basically it.

You can find a reference to the now deleted video in the comments on this PN article:

www.pinknews.co.uk/2016/10/29/trans-support-charity-mermaids-attacked-by-transphobes-for-bullying/comments/

The response by a pro Mermaids person makes it clear what FF said.

I doubt boys and girls brigade will go down this route judging by this - they clearly understand what sex is and gender is

Many of the comments are excellent.

Funkaccino · 15/03/2019 11:13

I agree, I also don't like when the fact that Paris beat up a client is brought up here. Any man hiring a teenager for sex deserves what he gets.

Otherwise, though Paris is a thoroughly vile human.

Funkaccino · 15/03/2019 11:15

The list of role model would imply they've just randomly picked a few high profile trans people out of thin air without researching them though. Doesn't say much for their safe guarding procedures really.

ToeToToe · 15/03/2019 11:22

Great to see some of those comments!

Abbie Shannon et al - you are awesome Thanks

Paris Lees as role model for girls and women? I don't fucking think so. More like a porn-addled AGP with a criminal record for a violent crime, I thought.

EcclesThePeacock · 15/03/2019 11:25

Who'd have thought the Boys' Brigade would be, on the evidence of that link, one of the more feminism-friendly organisations?

Funkaccino · 15/03/2019 11:28

Oh I know who Travis is. He became famous for not identifying as a woman but still kicking off when topshop wouldn't let him in their women's changing room.

Well done woodcraft folk.
