BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 06/03/2019 08:50

Ah, the OP is special and doesn’t listen to music that boring old non special women listen to

Good to know

Katterinaballerina · 06/03/2019 08:53

I love the poster for the recital. He looks like he’s as confused as the viewer as to why he’s under the headline International Women’s Day.

Bowlofbabelfish · 06/03/2019 09:00

pulls on fetching bear fur dress with pockets

Seriously - my theee year old ds’s jackets have inner pockets. Mine? Sodding decorative shallow ones only on the outside. Gah.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 06/03/2019 09:17

yes, many of my son's baby grows had pockets

puzzling, since at that point he had literally no possessions at all, although did display a proprietary attitude towards my breasts

what do women want?

pockets innit

HopeMumsnet · 06/03/2019 09:31

Hi all,
We think this one should go as it's transparently designed to goad...

HopeMumsnet · 06/03/2019 09:34

although it will mean that the excellent point about pockets will go too.

Roomba · 06/03/2019 09:41

SAVE THE POCKETS!

BettyDuMonde · 06/03/2019 09:46

No.
And some of us marry men and we even keep our sons to raise ourselves these days.
Hmm

Katterinaballerina · 06/03/2019 09:50

Blaming women for Ed Sheeran sounds an awful lot like hate speech.

onalongsabbatical · 06/03/2019 09:53

Yes I have special ear filters that stop me from hearing ANYTHING that is sung, said or moaned by a man. It's bliss. Grin
Another vote for POCKETS!

User10fuckingmillion · 06/03/2019 09:53

Women only listen to female singers...such as Ed Sheeran

Grin
User10fuckingmillion · 06/03/2019 09:56

Oh sorry feminists only listen to female singers such as Ed Sheeran. Because Shape of You is an incredibly feminist song dontyaknow

BettyDuMonde · 06/03/2019 09:56

I fucking love a pocket, me. Especially on a skirt. I wear an apron at home, not for cooking in, DH does the cooking. I just like the extra pocket.

Here’s one of my current favourite female musicians, with her DH. Her name is Cary Ann Hearst and she and her husband play together as Shovels and Rope. They take it in turns to switch between drums and guitar.

She’s pretty much the spiritual offspring of Janis Joplin and Loretta Lyn

soundtrack to this thread

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 06/03/2019 10:02

I really enjoyed that Betty. In return a favourite of mine, Kasey Chambers, with her ex-husband.

NeurotrashWarrior · 06/03/2019 10:02

Pockets 👏 sold 👏 separately 👏

BettyDuMonde · 06/03/2019 10:05

I think I will spend the rest of the day listing to female musicians. Thanks OP!

Here’s another of Shovels and Rope (new album due in April - hoping they would tour U.K. to promote it but Cary Ann is currently pregnant with their DC2 so I understand if they don’t)

Any suggestions?

PerryPerryThePlatypus · 06/03/2019 10:09

Being an aging ole feminist I don't need pockets. I just put everything under my boobs cause I obvs don't wear a bra. Money, keys, phone, a week's worth of shopping, the sofa, the remote when I want to cause trouble, yes sirreee it's all tucked under my babalons.

BettyDuMonde · 06/03/2019 10:11

If Cary Ann is one of my favourite current singers, then Big Mama Thornton is one of my favourite of all time.

Kicking ass in 1952 (better than Elvis)

I have a massive thing for lots of the female vocalists of the 60s, but Barbara Lynn sang AND played guitar (left handed!) so she’s particularly special:

BettyDuMonde · 06/03/2019 10:14

Just found out that Barbara Lynn is still playing guitar today at the age of 96.

That’s my Woman Crush Wednesday sorted.

HopeMumsnet · 06/03/2019 10:18

Hi everyone,
It's pretty clear now from another thread that this OP is a bit of a goadster, so you won't be hearing from them again. On the other hand, this seems to have become an enjoyable thread about pockets (yay!) and female musicians (yay!) so we're going to leave it. No point in anyone addressing any questions to the OP, though, because they can't answer.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 06/03/2019 10:21

thanks HopeMumsnet - good solution!

I'm working my way through Betty's links and would be really sad to see this thread go poof!

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 06/03/2019 10:21

oh my god

why didn't I know about Big Mama Thornton until now??!

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 06/03/2019 10:24
