I do get confused by Dr McK

are they saying that there is no sporting difference between women and trans gender women?

or that there is no difference once a male takes drugs to reduce their testosterone levels?

or that there is a difference, but it doesn't matter and trans women should just be allowed to compete anyway?

dragoning · 04/03/2019 23:40

Thank you Sharron!!

Callmejudith · 05/03/2019 10:14

Tessa Sanderson has tweeted support

EweSurname · 05/03/2019 11:35

Sharron's appearance on BBC Scotland Nine yesterday (at around 30.30 mins in):

I just feel like crying sometimes

It's blimmin obvious to anyone with a pair of eyes and a semi-functioning brain that men have an in-built advantage over women in almost every sporting discipline. Scientists might want to research the exact combination of hormonal and physical attributes that allow men to be faster and stronger, but all that is doing is putting numbers onto something that everyone knows to be truth.

There is nothing (ethical) that can be done to an average boy to allow him to compete fairly against women and girls. Nothing. That is why we have competitions segregated by sex for pretty much every event.

I can't believe that we are having this argument in 2019.

Women are not men without a penis and / or a lower testosterone level.

bellinisurge · 05/03/2019 12:27

I watched the BBC episode- Nine. RM was going on about testosterone but refusing to address the issue of the impact of male puberty on a body development.

RockyFlintstone · 05/03/2019 12:30

Women are not men without a penis and / or a lower testosterone level.

This, a million times!

It says everything about how these people, and those who agree with them, see women.

The discussion should not be around the extent to which we have to drug males so that the can compete with females. A male with low testosterone is not a female.

bellinisurge · 05/03/2019 12:32

SD made a very interesting point about trans men not competing at the highest level. Why would that be I (don't) wonder?

BettyDuMonde · 05/03/2019 13:00

Sharron is really getting into her stride now!

WineGummyBear · 05/03/2019 13:10

Sharron if you are reading this thank you.

If at any time during the inevitable kick back you experience any doubt at all, know that 99.99% of the general public agree with you!

MsTSwift · 05/03/2019 17:08

Sharron everyone with eyes a brain but without an agenda supports you thank you for speaking up on our behalf.

Oleanna your last post put into words exactly how I feel about this too.

If anything this push push push into women’s areas is making me less tolerant than I would have been.

Antibles · 05/03/2019 17:31

Thank you so much for speaking up Sharron. Star

OlennasWimple · 05/03/2019 17:42

Completely agree

adultFemaleElf · 05/03/2019 19:45

Just watched it.
Sharron thank you.
Boys are not girls and men are not women and no amount of drugs and surgery can convert one to the other.
Get over it.

Sharron Davies, what a bloody hero! She looks like she's more than ready to take this shit DOWN.

MrsJamin · 05/03/2019 20:15

She is utterly brilliant. Flowers thank you, Sharron you bloody marvel for standing up for women and girls! 😘

WomanDaresTo · 05/03/2019 20:16

Sharron's incredible. Here she talks of Petra Schneider - given testosterone by her DDR coaches as a young teen, and left with serious health problems and yes - a gold medal.

''She said she was put on a doping program at age 14 and originally told that they were just little blue pills,'' Davies said of Schneider. ''She then knew changes were taking place in her body, and by the time she was 16 or 17, she was aware that she was taking something illegal but by that time she was worried that if she rejected it, her father might lose his job or something. That's the very sad part of this. It wasn't a simple, straightforward thing.''

Davies added: ''Both Petra and Rica Reinisch have heart problems, and all the side effects that are apparent with steroid abuse. But the fact is they had very little choice. If I had been in East Germany at that time, I could have been one of those people, too. But I do think the I.O.C. should be held fairly accountable that more was not done at the time. It's not like this is all a surprise. The East Germans were dominating out of all proportion. It was obvious to everyone what was going on.''

''Petra has been told at the age of 35 that she could die of a heart attack at any moment,'' Davies said, ''and she has an 8-year-old girl.''

WomanDaresTo · 05/03/2019 20:23

(and for context, that was Sharron talking in 1998 about the woman who had been doping on testosterone when she won gold ahead of Sharron's Olympic silver in 1980)

AlecTrevelyan006 · 05/03/2019 21:10

Sharron has a lot of credibility on tis issue because she was not only a top sportsperson but also someone who suffered at the hands of drug-filled cheats. I am very pleased that she is not letting up or backing down.

Thanks for the link, Mamoun. I see that Sky say she is defending her reasoning, and tons of people underneath are objecting to their wording, saying that she has no need to defend it. Heartening.

SardineQueenII · 05/03/2019 22:28

Thank you for the links about Sharron Davies.

Olympic medallist 1980 I remember her-ish but was a touch too young to really be aware.

I want to say she looks amazing! Because, well why the fuck not, woman to woman, socialisation, it's always nice. Anyway I told 2 men today that they looked great, maybe 3! Everyone loves a compliment, even if the men involved look a bit confused...

Sorry ramblimg.

Reading the link Sharron is the #1 person to pay attention to on this. Elite sportswoman, olympic gold medallist. Experience with athletes on T or / not. etc

Sharron you are amazing! I will be streaming your medal swims to show my girls... You can never have too many female role models.

I suppose genderists would say I should show the girls Bruce Jenner's prime triumphs to encourge them as girls to achieve in sport???????????

adultFemaleElf · 05/03/2019 22:49

Is anyone on twitter and able to report this?
