I am glad the BBC has ran the story but why aren't they mentioning she has support from Paula Radcliffe and Kelly Holmes? These are huge names in Olymoic sport, its simply poor journalism to leave them out and leaves Sharron isolated as a target. Its fairly obvious that was done deliberately.

IDoN0tCare · 03/03/2019 09:12

Can someone explain wtf this means? How is Sharron's tweet white supremacist? This is so confusing to me. I don't get it.

Because comparing trans rights to the homophobia no longer works. TRAs and their handmaidens are being called out on that comparison, so they’re going to imply that they are racist. I don’t know how the fuck they’re working that one out. Is Daley Thompson using white privilege, when he says that male born people shouldn’t be permitted to compete against females?

Needmoresleep · 03/03/2019 09:20

Racist? Sharon was married to Derek Redmond and has two mixed race children.

She also won an Olympic silver behind an East German who has since admitted taking performance enhancing drugs. More likely the real reason why she is willing to speak out clearly against what she sees as unfairness.

EweSurname · 03/03/2019 09:28

Claims of racism arise from the assertion that colonialism forced people to adopt a binary of male and female. Because us brown people had no idea about men and women before we were taught by our wise and civilised white educators.

I think it’s based on two spirit people, Hijras etc but doesn’t really address the fact that sex is still binary regardless of cultural roles, even for those before colonisation.

As for white supremacy, I don’t really understand but here is Emily gorcenski explaining

mobile.twitter.com/EmilyGorcenski/status/1088180524504571908

If anyone can parse it and translate, I’d be intrigued to finally learn the connection between believing that humans are dimorphic in sex and believing that white people are superior to all other races and should benefit from other people’s oppression.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 03/03/2019 09:28

Racist? Sharon was married to Derek Redmond and has two mixed race children.

A transwomen was taken to court for transphobia, do you think having mixed race children is going to be proof of not being racist?

OvaHere · 03/03/2019 09:45

I suspect having a biracial relationship and children probably is seen as colonialist by the far left. From what I've gathered they seem very into the idea of race separation as progressive ideal.

It's the natural conclusion of every type of person needing 'safe spaces' (except bio women of course - the inability to recognise that one is what makes it laughable).

It's big as a concept in the US but I'm sure it's working it's way over here.

HawkeyeInConfusion · 03/03/2019 13:00

This is in the Sunday Express today.

Do not judge. It got delivered to my house by accident. I have no idea who it belongs to.

Should be noted that the campaign to get Sharron Davies the gold medal she rightfully won in Moscow but which was stolen by a drug-cheat has always been hampered by Davies herself who refuses to endorse it.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 03/03/2019 13:14

Express is worth reading because of the Calvin and Hobbes comic.

HawkeyeInConfusion · 03/03/2019 13:16

Calvin and Hobbes you say?

SardineQueenII · 03/03/2019 13:19

"As for white supremacy, I don’t really understand but here is Emily gorcenski explaining "

That's not an explanation of anything.

Most of the comments are telling Emily off Grin

SardineQueenII · 03/03/2019 13:20

Martina has been forced to apologise for the term cheating

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/47433144

SardineQueenII · 03/03/2019 13:21

Are our friends having a massive go at Daley Thompson and calling him a white supremacist, bigot, who wants people to die etc etc?

The men who talk about this seem to get WAAYYY less flack.

There's a reason for that.

SardineQueenII · 03/03/2019 13:23

note RM describes sharron as ex british swimmer

Sharron probably still swims?

They mean previous olympic swimming medallist I think, something like that

But can't bring themselves to say it

andyoldlabour · 03/03/2019 13:29

SardineQueenII

"Martina has been forced to apologise for the term cheating"

The BBC have been economical with their reporting - as usual.

"I know that my use of the word ‘cheat’ caused particular offence among the transgender community. I’m sorry for that because I certainly was not suggesting that transgender athletes in general are cheats. I attached the label to a notional case in which someone cynically changes gender, perhaps temporarily, to gain a competitive advantage."
"We should not be blind to the possibility and some of these rules are making that possible and legal. The context may be different, but the case of Lance Armstrong, and the harm he did to his sport, is surely instructive."

In other words, its still cheating, its just they've made it legal to cheat. But worded nicely and politely.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/03/2019 16:38

That bbc piece is a very biased account of what she actually wrote. Hmm

EweSurname · 03/03/2019 17:21

She seems to be able to deal with the overblown hyperbole quite well

Sharron Davies
SardineQueenII · 03/03/2019 17:55

Wow fuck I only read BBC report they are totally misrepresenting what she said

Fucking unbelievable

Fuck the BBC

MrsSnippyPants · 03/03/2019 17:57

Sharron has just been on our local BBC news (Spotlight, I’m in the south west). Only a brief appearance but stating her case very clearly.

JaneEyre07 · 03/03/2019 18:00

I met her when I was at school, she came to support a swimming event and gave a fascinating talk about the reality of being a professional athlete. She was also endlessly patient at having photographs taken and questions asked of her.

To work for years perfecting your sport and then have a man come along in a dress beside you shouting "but I'm a woman too" is an absolute joke. Give transgender people their own class in sport - and stop the issue.

Macareaux · 03/03/2019 19:23

Sharron has just tweeted this. She will get dragged for the pronouns and inverted commas. She will realise that anything other than full capitulation to trans ideology will never be enough.

We believe you Hawkeye

thousands wouldn't

Datun · 03/03/2019 19:28

She might get piled on, but the situation speaks for itself. She will realise, as will everyone else, how ludicrous it is.

dementedma · 03/03/2019 19:29

Well said Sharron Davies.
