Michael Cashman of Stonewall (and Labour peer) tweeted

"Not true. But yet another Twitter myth to be repeated."

in response to someone pointing out that Stonewall sought to change the Equality Act.

Multiple people tweeted at him, pointing out that his assertion was not true and sent photos of Stonewall's submission to the Women and Equalities Select Committee where they stated explicitly they wanted to change the EA.

Michael ignores everyone but after Jonny Best tweets him with the same info, responds thus:

Let me be clear: I do not believe the called for review of the GRA and any subsequent changes which might be necessary would undermine rights contained with the Equalities Act. I support @stonewalluk submission.

Please note that the original woman who pointed this out and whom he accused of repeating a twitter myth has not received an apology for this unfounded accusation.

But it's not over yet, because a mere 40 minutes later, he then tweets this:

Michael Cashman
‏**@mcashmanCBE**
@stonewalluk are NOT calling for changes in exemptions for single-sex services in the Equality Act, and they will not be impacted by a move to a self-determination system for gender recognition.

If anyone can explain this to me, I'd be very grateful.

Lost his marbles?
Interesting that he ignores women but immediately responds when a man points out the same thing.

FloralBuntingIsObnoxious · 01/03/2019 14:28

He's a big old lying liar with duplicitous bones?

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 01/03/2019 14:29

He doesn't like women?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 01/03/2019 14:29

Lying.

Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 01/03/2019 14:32

Sexism?

It's truly baffling to me the way he's behaving. Can't he see?

EweSurname · 01/03/2019 14:35

Ohh is this what being gaslit feels like?

It's truly baffling to me the way he's behaving. Can't he see?

He's being told what to do and say, he can't deviate from it.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 01/03/2019 14:37

Then who the heck is telling him?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 01/03/2019 14:39

I don't know yet, but this is all coming down from very high up.

DoctoressPlague · 01/03/2019 14:40

I wonder if he has an arrangement with Stonewall and he's just trying to reach his tweet quota for the day by inanely retweeting the same thing over and over again.
Either way, it's great to see a Labour man taking women seriously for a change. /s

HerFemaleness · 01/03/2019 14:51

What is going on with these men?

They've no horse in the race so to speak, but they arrogantly presume to dictate to women how we should think and feel about this situation. They gaslight us continually, they tell us we're hysterical. They make absurd claims and then deny evidence which contradicts. They lecture, they threaten, they chastise, they mock. They tell us it doesn't matter if transwomen are taking up all the places on the podium, that it would be 'inspiring'. They simper up to transwomen while talking over women and not allowing us to speak. They're not even aware of how differently they treat transwomen and women, but if women point out we are different they're the first to condemn us and call us bigots. They are blind to their own sexism. They pile on women who point out that biology is real, but ignore threads and threads of men talking about how disgusting the idea of dating a transwoman is.

Trans rights activism is a men's rights activists dream come true. Women get to be silenced and sidelined, made to collude in our own oppression and forced to repeat demaning sexist stereotypes. Men get to abuse us and threaten violence if we fail to comply.

Libfems wake up, you've been had.

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 01/03/2019 15:34

Gay men seem to be the worst.

Maybe they don't have as many connections or relationships or friendships with women as straight men do.

Good post. These men are also very powerful with positions in government, the civil service, local authorities, business and so on. So when they decide to indulge their fetishes or to enable their autogynephile friends by removing the rights of women and children to safe sex segregated spaces, they have the power to do it. And then they lie and dissemble to cover up what they have done.

Needmoresleep · 01/03/2019 15:41

Socialisation?

He may have spent many of his adult years in a restricted Labour lovvie echo chamber, perhaps without many interactions with ordinary just about managing people, especially women. And his perspective has gone a bit wonky.

IM0GEN · 01/03/2019 15:46

What’s going on with these men is that they are misogynists. Because they are in public life they have to suppress their misogyny to some extent.

But Transactivism allows them to give full reign to their hatred AND be woke.

LangCleg · 01/03/2019 15:55

Nothing's gone wrong.

He's the same as he always was: a misogynistic man.

tobee · 01/03/2019 16:12

I don't think gay men are necessarily worse misogynists then straight. They just don't need to pretend because they don't want penis in vagina sex.

OlennasWimple · 01/03/2019 16:14

Liar, liar, pants on fire

Knicknackpaddyflak · 01/03/2019 16:58

Its like those police reality tv shows where they stop someone driving a car and the person they have video footage of driving, in the drivers seat, keys in hand, swears loudly and endlessly that they weren't driving, they weren't even in the car.

Could be challenged to the point of not being able to realise that just repeatedly denying proven reality wont work and makes their situation worse, or a belief that repeating the lie long enough will make people stop challenging their behaviour and trying to make them take responsibility for it, or inability to cope with being caught out/ego too fragile to handle being wrong. Or orthodoxy above facts/ part of a dysfunctional relationship where to come off the agreed version of what is happening brings down the whole group. So stupidly and publicly denying reality is better than the whole group they're part of imploding.

Psychologist and good quality care needed to figure that one out. It's worrying how many of these figurehead people are showing themselves as not very well.

utter inability to deal with and take responsibility for the consequences of their actions,

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 01/03/2019 17:26

But Transactivism allows them to give full reign to their hatred AND be woke.

TRS a gift.

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 01/03/2019 17:27

TRA is a gift for some men.

LondonPainter · 01/03/2019 18:09

Arrogant misogynist.
And extra Hmm points for having CBE in his Twitter handle Grin

MillytantForceit · 01/03/2019 18:20

MBE = My Big 'ead
OBE = Old Big 'ead
CBE - Call me Big 'ead

ToeToToe · 01/03/2019 18:24

He's blinded by the T - refuses to see any impact on women - even when the evidence from the Stonewall submission is in front of his eyes.

He wants to give something away that isn't his to give away - women's rights under the Equality Act.

And I think he's lost his marbles.

LondonPainter · 01/03/2019 18:27

MBE = My Big 'ead
OBE = Old Big 'ead
CBE - Call me Big 'ead

Too right!!
