Brilliant stuff, Joan. I think she's given courage to some of the other SNP women who we'll hear from shortly.

Great stuff from Joan McAlpine. We have to be allowed to discuss safeguarding. Not to do so is a betrayal of vulnerable women. Listen from 2.36

Joan McAlpine
@JoanMcAlpine
Didn't get chance to say on @BBCRadioScot that many more MSPs contacted me privately offering support for personal thread below than signed the open letter published yesterday. Thousands more women - and men - have said thanks. Now we all have to speak up.

OvaHere · 04/03/2019 10:43

I just went to read The Times article and was asked to do a survey run by Qualtrics on behalf of The Times.

I got this question Hmm

Someone at The Times should have a word.

Joan McAlpine on sex and census. Wow.
WaddIelikeapenguin · 04/03/2019 11:15

Soooo RS’s entire argument is be nice & budge over Hmm

Joan was bloody fantastic & delighted to read that tweet of hers

EweSurname · 04/03/2019 11:33

Honestly, her twitter feed is a delight - she's calmly but firmly rebutting false information from the Equality Network with facts and evidence.

WaddIelikeapenguin · 04/03/2019 16:08

I took a peek
Facts & evidence!! Doesn’t she know that’s not playing their game Grin

Why the hell aren’t the rest of the MSPs that agree speaking out to support her? Angry

howonearthdidwegethere · 04/03/2019 16:15

She’s not for turning on this. Hooray!

I’ve sent her a card, thanking her for speaking up.

Hope others do to to show other MSPs how greatly appreciated are those who stand up for women (voters).

WaddIelikeapenguin · 04/03/2019 16:55

I sent her an email but I like the idea of a card. My MSPs will all be getting a letter asking them to stand with her.

howonearthdidwegethere · 04/03/2019 17:04

Message from a friend:

The MSP's offices are glass fronted so everyone can see in when they walk past. If Joan had a ton of cards, they'd be VERY visible to other MSPs. Just sayin'. Wink

EweSurname · 04/03/2019 17:08

Would it be strange for non-Scot resident to send a card?

WaddIelikeapenguin · 04/03/2019 17:11

I don’t think so Ewe
It’s no different to Scottish women contacting English MPs about matters that are devolved to Scotland

Popchyk · 04/03/2019 17:22

Richard Lyle MSP has tweeted support for Joan.

howonearthdidwegethere · 04/03/2019 17:26

I don't think it matters at all if you're outside Scotland.

Apart from David Davies, Joan is the first elected representative to properly stand up and be counted on this. And I think it would be good for her to know how appreciated she is and for her colleagues to be aware of that too.

VeryLittleOwl · 04/03/2019 18:03

Emailed my MSP to ask her to support Joan's stance - I live in a very, very small village and my MSP is a good friend of one of my neighbours, so hopefully she'll take note of the address at the bottom of the email and reply! (Haven't had a reply from my MP yet, three weeks after emailing him to ask if the Scottish Lib Dems supported Lynne Featherstone's views on GC feminists...)

morningtoncrescent62 · 04/03/2019 18:11

Good idea to send a card - I've emailed her, but I'll send a card as well. She's absolutely storming it at the moment.

OllyBJolly · 04/03/2019 18:29

Excellent idea - I'll send a card.

Ewe thanks for posting that link of the radio programme.

SileneOliveira · 04/03/2019 18:53

Now don't get me wrong. I never, ever thought i'd be agreeing with a SNP politician. Ever. On anything.

But she has nailed it.

And she is super-brave because the SNP policy is to not allow dissent. Their MPs and MSPs are simply not allowed to voice opinions outside the official party line, which is exactly what Joan McAlpine has done. Political suicide. So it's something she obviously feels very strongly about.

terfsandwich · 04/03/2019 19:03

The Times article has been taken down? Why is that?

terfsandwich · 04/03/2019 19:04

"This article has been removed."

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/03/2019 19:06

How odd Hmm

Did anyone archive it? (I've not read it yet Sad )

Cismyfatarse1 · 04/03/2019 19:27

It is still on my version on the Times app.
