What are we doing to our girls? I’m so grateful that the big names in female achievement are also speaking out.

I feel such a fraud posting on a sport thread because I am to sport what Donald Trump is to high level hairdressing, but I have recently come across another point of view.

Some people are saying that human beings, whether male or female, have pretty much reached the limit of peak performance that can be achieved naturally. Many of the world records in athletics, for instance, were set several years ago and this is especially so in women's events. Where records are still being broken, we are shaving off ever thinner margins.

There is now possibly more interest in Paralympians than in other Olympians. They have inspirational stories and the prosthetics and specialist equipment that are involved add an extra dimension.

So what is the future of competitive sport? And why are the sporting authorities allowing the seemingly ludicrous situation of allowing male-bodied athletes in women's events?

I offer this as a very tentative explanation. What if we were in the very early stages of being encouraged to unhook our thinking from the natural capacities of male and female humans? What if we were being encouraged to shift our focus instead to the idea of human enhancement in order to increase human capacity?

I came across this Tedtalk which might better explain what I mean.
Of course, I may very well be very wrong indeed.

All-time records are a tiny part of sport. They don't really make any sense for many sports, including tennis.

And even in sports where they do matter, like athletics, a competition can be exciting to watch even if no-one gets anywhere near a record.
