Firing Martina from Allies is working out to be an own goal as more people stand up and speak out on this.

twitter.com/hashtag/TeamNavratilova?src=hash

We know how twitter works Hmm in regards to women speaking out so perhaps this thread could be a place to gather excellent quotes and pictures for people to spread across other platforms and show that Martina's views are shared not by a trickle of support but a tidal wave.

I feel in need of a very nice #TeamNavratilova picture to put on my fbook, any social media gurus around to advise?

Agreed, sadly i am no sports person,.. was unable to partake in much sport - as intersex lived as female from age 9 - 19, told NO more football, no more cricket... "YOU can play NetBall now."
Was 1974 so soon accepted i was never going to excel in sport -

So great to see so many amazing sports women standing up for WOMENS SPORTS

take that trans women! men who failed in mens sports so tried to ruin womens sports - NO NO NO ....

Bebstar123 · 01/03/2019 20:27

So glad these women have spoken up. I got TERF blocked (after three days on Twitter) and had a Tweet liked by Sally, all in one day!

ChattyLion · 01/03/2019 20:42

So proud of all these superhuman amazing sportswomen speaking up like this.
Just seen that Rebecca Adlington has FPFW info as her pinned tweet! Love it.

SpeakUpXXWomen · 01/03/2019 20:49

This is why it is so important

Women athletes are in an impossible bind: speak out and suffer Shirley’s fate, or continue to lose in lopsided and unfair competitions. Nothing will change until the athletes themselves, and not their surrogates, begin to protest, speak out, and refuse to participate in patently unfair competition.

indeed, putting me to shame, i would've love to compete in so many sports but was never encouraged so cool to see so many super HUMANS and talented women showing what is possible

Womens sports for WOMEN -

I can recall being told i ran like a girl, even being intersex and partially male... so these women show it is COOL TO RUN LIKE A GIRL - as they win!

Proud of my XX chromosomes - (have a Y chromosome as well that often fails me!!)

Were we not saying a year (or more) ago on here that sports would be the clincher?

sackrifice · 01/03/2019 22:59

Yup. We were.

SpeakUpXXWomen · 01/03/2019 23:02

It's a common denominator isn't it? Everyone has an interest in some sport somewhere and it's a public exhibition of physical difference.

Dr Antonia Lee, elite coach with degrees in science and sports medicine.

If I’m a male discus thrower, the discus weighs 2kg. For women it’s 1kg. If I’m a male javelin thrower, the javelin is 800g, whilst for women it’s 600g. The shot for men is 7.26kg, whilst for women it’s 4kg: the same is true for the hammer. If I’m a male 400m hurdler, the hurdles are set at a height of 91.4 cm (36 in), whilst for women they are 76.2cm (30 in). In the sprint hurdles, men cover 110m with hurdle heights of 106.7 (42 in), whilst women race over 100m and the hurdles are 83.8cm (33 in) high. Readers might like to consider why, although the answer is obvious.

If it is "transphobia" to believe in biology and common sense, so be it. I will wear the label with pride. So should you.

Essentially, if you’re a man competing against women in a women’s only sport, you’re a cheater. Sadly, these girls are getting cheated to the sound of applause.

www.takingonissues.com/transgender-athletes-continue-to-destroy-womens-sports/
by entering these competitions, the transgender athletes are effectively cheating by using an inherent advantage the actual girls don’t have. That’s not very polite of them, is it?

"So is it, you're taking scholarships away?," Schlereth asks. "All of a sudden I'm a young lady who's competing against this, a tilted competition, do I stop competing, do I stop using the gift that was given me because I get discouraged? Because I'm competing in an unfair contest?

Do you think biological males who identify as "transgender" should be allowed to compete against girls in women's sports?

Thanks for those stats on the differences between men’s and women’s sporting equipment. I teach functional maths and feel a lesson on percentage increase/decrease coming on.

TorchesTorches · 02/03/2019 08:28

Another mumsnetter once referenced an excellent music video which comes to my mind each time i hear about the debate of transwomen in sport.

Its called 'witness the fitness' by roots manuva. I feel like shouting 'witness the fitness' when the likes of Rachel McKinnon speak. Maybe #witnessthefitness could be a thing? I can't do a link to the video but it's well worth a watch all the way through.

SophoclesTheFox · 02/03/2019 08:31

Well, the upside to Rachel’s entertainingly enthusiastic hubris has been in reminding me what incredible sportswomen the UK has produced over the years. I’ve just spent a very happy 30 minutes reliving the greatest achievements of Sharron Davies, Kelley Holmes and Paula Radcliffe. Amazing, amazing women. Brava!

Igneococcus · 02/03/2019 08:39

I just did a Panelbase survey which had among a whole range of questions from Brexit, Scottish Independence to Shamima Begum and secterianism in football also a few questions about sex and gender.
One was if I think sex and gender are the same thing.
Another about Martina and if I think she is right.
One if I think biological males should be able to compete with women in sports.
And the last one was if I believe that one can change sex.

I wonder who commissioned that survey. It had a strong Scottish focus.

Iused2BanOptimist · 02/03/2019 08:55

Thanks for those stats on the differences between men’s and women’s sporting equipment.

I thought we were getting back to basic biology there for a moment. What with Rachel explaining you don't play tennis with a penis. Grin

SeeYouLaterUserData · 02/03/2019 08:58

Sharron was on fire last night in a good way 🔥

It's a common denominator isn't it? Everyone has an interest in some sport somewhere and it's a public exhibition of physical difference.

I have zero interest in sport, but yes most people can see physical differences in athletes when they are stood next to each other at medal ceremonies.

SophoclesTheFox · 02/03/2019 09:00

That was such a truly fatuous thing to say about not playing tennis with your penis, wasn’t it? FFS, you don’t play it with your gender identity either, do you? Durrrrrr.

SpeakUpXXWomen · 02/03/2019 13:57

Peak trans again today at #TeamNavratilova!

You must be joking!!! I guess the dictionary needs to be banned too?!? This must stop...

OP posts:
Bluestitch · 02/03/2019 14:47

I'm surprised to see some of the more prominent TRAs defending transwomen in female sports, including people like Paris Lees and Amanda Jette Knox. I would have thought they'd keep quiet tbh, it's the one issue over which there is almost universal agreement about how unfair it is, and seems to peak so many people, including those who aren't usually interested in this debate and its just such bad PR for their cause. I mean even India Willoughby has the good sense to acknowledge how unfair it is and speak out against it.

Manderleyagain · 02/03/2019 15:02

Yes I'm surprised too bluestich. I suppose it may just mean they really believe twaw so can't conceive why you should have different rules for different contexts.
Or maybe they see it as a betrayal of the core beliefsto stay silent on one area of rights just because it won't wash with the public. They are at least consistent with the core principals.
Wrong principals as it happens but from their point of view it is the more consistent honest position.

Datun · 02/03/2019 15:09

The offensive phrase was

"Lesbians don't sleep with men".

By banning the poster, Twitter, and presumably TRAs, are saying that transwomen are men.

They can't keep track of their own lies.
