Taken from their website:
"Our mission is to end the rampant homophobia and transphobia in sport and to activate the athletic community to exercise their leadership to champion LGBTQ equality".
And surprise, Rachel Mckinnon is an ambassador.

That passage accompanied by pictures - can we get it trending on Twitter???

RockyFlintstone · 20/02/2019 09:33

The LGBT movement is eating itself.

Interesting tweet from India 'I am a real woman' Willoughby there. It seems like perhaps India feels that sports aren't for truly 'girly girls', of which India is of course one, so its irrelevant to India anyway.

Terfnserf · 20/02/2019 09:39

If the BBC sack her from Wimbledon coverage we need to demo down there, massive queues all day long we could leaflet too.

WeRiseUp · 20/02/2019 09:41

There's probably something in there as well around claiming its benevolent sexism because women are seen as weak, this argument has been used about mixed sex toilets. Apparently single sex ones are sexist as they support the idea women are fragile.

And it chimes in with the thread that is running alongside this about men paying. That unless het couples split things 50/50 it means women are 'seen' to earn less than men....

Millytant

Don't let's forget Mowgli / Tarzan,
and Romulus and Remus trans wolves all.

WeRiseUp · 20/02/2019 09:45

In a way this is remarkably admirable, and I think full recognition of this philosophy should be acknowkeged - and henceforth the author should be automatically credited with the title of their work each time their name is mentioned.

e.g. Rachel 'Why YouDon't Need to Know What You're Talking About' McKinnon.

I like it, maybe it could also be modified slightly to suit a situation eg Rachel 'Why YouDon't Need to Qualify For What You're Competing In' McKinnon'.

HawkeyeInConfusion · 20/02/2019 09:54

Given the current definition of 'cis' provided by Datun which may no longer be current by the time I type this how does that fit with Miranda, Fionne and others that recognise that they are male?

And, no, I'm not expecting anyone to understand or defend their codswallop.

Presumably all other Athlete Ambassadors will reflect on their own links within that organisation now.

And act in line with their consciences.

Looking forward to it.

TurboTeddy · 20/02/2019 10:08

There is no evidence at all that the average biological male average trans woman is any bigger, stronger, or faster than the average cisgender woman.
If this become accepted fact then I think it has very sinister and dangerous implications particularly in light of the recent cases where "consensual rough sex" has been used as a defence against charges of rape and murder. How could rough sex which results in death or serious injury not be consensual if the male accused of the crime did not have a physical advantage over the victim? She could have used her equal strength to stop what he was doing at anytime.
Not so long ago I would have thought anyone suggesting such a thing was a fully paid up member of the tin foil hat brigade but now I think I'm just trying to cope with one disappointment after another and manage my expectations for the future. It's shit and today I am furious.

TurboTeddy · 20/02/2019 10:09

Sorry for the long paragraph, none of my formatting seems to have been applied.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 20/02/2019 10:12

Very good point turbo

Its the drip drip drip effect

I dont think it's tinfoil hattery

Go back a year and people suggesting that women are just as fast, and strong as men wouldnt be getting any traction at all

Blueblueyellow · 20/02/2019 10:40

Yes to Martina Flowers
We need more women like her speaking out. We all know what's in front of our eyes, it's getting ridiculous. Is it a case that the IOC made the rules about trans women competing but didn't really make to much of it at the time, thinking it would never become much of an issue?
And now they have to catch up and make proper rules regarding trans athletes? Does anyone know what they are saying about it at the moment?

He was a transdog. His brother remained a ciscat

This reminds me of my favourite meme that was on the meme thread that I can’t find:

Datun · 20/02/2019 10:51

Yes TurboTeddy. That is a good point. And I totally get your explanation of managing expectations after suffering more and more disappointment.

But the one thing we have to remember is most people still have no idea about this.

It's tempting to think they do, because places like the BBC. But they don't. And at the moment, it's still fairly unknown, obscure places coming out with this total nonsense.

No one I know has ever heard of Rachel McKinnon, for instance.

And most people aren't on Twitter. Or if they are, they are not involved in this debate, at all.

People are already sick to death of hearing about trans issues, and probably switch off.

And I'm quite sure they don't realise how far it's gone. They just think it's 'attitude', not rules, laws and significant changes.

People still fondly think that the powers that be have some vestige of common sense.

Once this hits mainstream, there will be uproar.

MsTSwift · 20/02/2019 11:03

I explained this to my uncle and dh yesterday Both thought I must be mistaken as so clearly nonsense that men can declare they are women then compete and “win” at women’s sports they didn’t believe it was actually happening .

NotBadConsidering · 20/02/2019 11:04

Just reading comments below the Facebook post of the biased BBC article and they are 99% supportive of Martina. It’s really heartening.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/02/2019 11:04

* There is no evidence at all that the average trans woman is any bigger, stronger, or faster than the average cisgender woman.
*

I don't suppose anyone has actually done that study. Who'd dare to?
It can therefore equally be said that there's no evidence at all that the average transwoman isn't bigger, stronger and faster than the average woman.

But the evidence specifically wrt transwomen competing against women is there on the podia pictures etc.

RomanticFatigue · 20/02/2019 11:07

How can anyone say there is no evidence at all that the average trans woman is any bigger, stronger, or faster than the average cisgender woman. There is so much photographic evidence!

OvaHere · 20/02/2019 11:08

Donald Trump Jnr tweets in support of a debate about the issue.

You just know this is going to be a big right wing talking point in the 2020 elections. It's really not going to play well for the left because even most democrat voters will find the sports issue ludicrous. The Dem candidates only options will be to double down or be labelled transphobic by the far left wing of their own party.
