FPFW disinvited from discussing Martina's comments on 5Live

TransposersArePosers · 18/02/2019 11:00

Nicola WIlliams was invited to speak about Martina's comments along with RM. This on the FPFW facebook page

We were then disinvited after Rachel McKinnon publicly refused to participate if we were included. We discussed this decision with editor Philo Holland explaining how this is a frequently used tactic to silencing opposing views. It contravenes BBC editorial guidelines to allow a guest to veto the appearance of another

So the BBC being biased again, what a surprise. And a GC voice being no platformed. Why is it that these individuals are frightened to go up against the common sense facts??

3 males agreeing with themselves about who should be allowed to compete in women's sport and that Martina Navratilova is transphobic and should she be sacked? Not cool.

God, the utter tossers.

A mediocre cheat who insists biological men are biological women, over one of the most beloved and inspirational athletes ever.

They deserve all that's coming.

andyoldlabour · 20/02/2019 12:42

It looks as though our favourite Labour "lesbian" is up to their usual tricks again, suggesting that Madigan was invited by the BBC to talk about "transwomen in sports" with a "transphobe" Hmm

ErrolTheDragon · 20/02/2019 13:01

Explained to them that good reporting means talking to sports scientists & trans people in sports

Yes, by all means but ...and...??

Spot the glaring omission in a list of who Madigan thinks should be allowed to talk about women's sports. Hmm

FloralBuntingIsObnoxious · 20/02/2019 13:04

Chinny reckon, Madigan. Chinny reckon.

TransposersArePosers · 20/02/2019 13:19

I've just seen this on Posie's fb page. I saw it too late to listen live but will try and get it on listen again later

Our spokeswoman, Dr Nicola Williams @asknic will be on @talkRADIO at 12.30 today talking to Toby Young @toadmeister about the facts behind why @Martina has spoken up on trans in female sport. Please listen in for informed discussion

Oops, didn't realise the '@' names would all come out bold - they weren't in the text that I copied!

"Spot the glaring omission in a list of who Madigan thinks should be allowed to talk about women's sports"

There is a certain pattern emerging here - let me try to join the dots over a nice cup of Darjeeling Grin

Listened. Nice as ever great but omg Miranda pulled no punches at all

Said wasn’t buying into the delusion that a mans body can turn into a woman’s body

RiverTam · 20/02/2019 15:41

i've had a response to my complain and I'm fuming - it's exactly what I guessed it would be:

'Guests do not have the power to veto anopther guest's appearance. We invited Dr Williams to appear on Sunday night's programme and after initially agreeing to join us at a later poinbt in the show she subsequently declined. The offer remains open.'

Fucking weasels. They know damn well that they did allow McKinnon to veto Nic appearing at the same time as RM in order to debate Martina's comments, and are wriggling out of it on a technicality.

Complain #2 coming up when I get home.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 20/02/2019 15:46

Yeah I’ve had that reply too. Doesn’t address my question of whether the resulting segment met impartiality standards

Slip shod, half arsed reply

Follow up complaint coming up

MillytantForceit · 20/02/2019 15:47

And appearing on live radio at 10.30 pm is no different from being shunted onto the after midnight slot.

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 20/02/2019 15:49

The BBC are very good at misunderstand complaints.

littlbrowndog · 20/02/2019 15:52

Yeah I complained to bbc about using the phrase “ assigned at birth”

They said they had looked at my complaint and felt assigned at birth was ok
Fuckers

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 20/02/2019 15:52

Thanks for getting in touch with us about Stephen Nolan broadcast on the 17th February.

We’ve raised your concerns with our colleagues at 5 live and they clarify that:

“Guests do not have the power to veto another guest’s appearance. We invited Dr Williams to appear on Sunday night’s programme and after initially agreeing to join us at a later point in the show she subsequently declined. The offer remains open.”

We hope this explains our position and we’d like to thank you again for taking the time to contact us about this.

Amortentia · 20/02/2019 15:56

The BBC are very good at misunderstand complaints

Yes, the are. I complained multiple times to them a couple of years ago about an astonishingly sexist way of reporting a particularly tragic issue. All the replies were of a similar vein to this -oh, we didn’t mean it that way. We’ll try not to do it again, but it’s not that big a deal really. Fuckers!

MillytantForceit · 20/02/2019 15:56

There is also R4 Feedback which unlike Points of View on the telly takes complants seriously.

RiverTam · 20/02/2019 15:58

this was Radio 5 Live, though, wasn't it?

MillytantForceit · 20/02/2019 16:01

Doesn't matter. Feedback covers all BBC Radio output, all national networks and local radio.

RiverTam · 20/02/2019 16:02

oh, brill - thanks. I'll email them as well as do another complaint.

RiverTam · 20/02/2019 16:03

oh, I understand now - Feedback is a R4 programme.

GladAllOver · 20/02/2019 16:08

Ofcom might be a better way to complain...

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 20/02/2019 16:08

I'd forgotten about feedback. I bloody love that programme too

emailing them tonight

jesus that cut and paste reply to a serious issue of fairness and impartiality has left me fucking fuming

Popchyk · 20/02/2019 16:10

Does Nic have proof that she was invited to the original debate with the two transgender people? Emails or texts?

Cos 5Live are trying to make it sound like Nic was never part of the original line-up. And that they tried to accommodate her afterwards after she complained. And how that was always the plan.

DoctoressPlague · 20/02/2019 16:36

Did they disinvite Nicola Williams from the main segment and did the editor discuss this decision with her - yes or no?
They can't claim McKinnon didn't veto her appearance just because they themselves prioritised McKinnon's appearance over Nicola's.
I had the same copy and paste response and will follow it up.
