FPFW disinvited from discussing Martina's comments on 5Live

TransposersArePosers · 18/02/2019 11:00

Nicola WIlliams was invited to speak about Martina's comments along with RM. This on the FPFW facebook page

We were then disinvited after Rachel McKinnon publicly refused to participate if we were included. We discussed this decision with editor Philo Holland explaining how this is a frequently used tactic to silencing opposing views. It contravenes BBC editorial guidelines to allow a guest to veto the appearance of another

So the BBC being biased again, what a surprise. And a GC voice being no platformed. Why is it that these individuals are frightened to go up against the common sense facts??

The interview is here:

Interestingly, the host confirms that McKinnon refused to debate with nic Williams.

donquixotedelamancha · 24/02/2019 23:38

The piece on 5 live was completely different this week. They discussed the actual issue, quoted Martina and gave relevant facts. While they may have given a terrible response to the complaints it's clear they took them on board.

I thought Dr Nic was fab as ever. It was an excellent choice of hers not to just go on at midnight that day. The publicity of bumping her and the fact that she wasn't knackered means this was another great piece for getting the message across.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/02/2019 23:45

Just listened too - that was really good and she answered questions very well.

RockyFlintstone · 24/02/2019 23:53

Bloody brilliant interview, she refused to get sucked into the 'do you agree with Martina that these people have a choice' thing, and the presenter stated several times that McKinnon refused to debate with her.

Great stuff.

Trousering · 25/02/2019 00:00

She says at the end Martina is trying to save women's sport, he says this is really interesting.

For fucks sake, it's not Fucking interesting, it's an appalling Fucking travesty that should not be Fucking happening.

Yes, I did think the same actually, it's not 'interesting' it's a fucking no brainer!

Vixxxy · 25/02/2019 00:06

Do you see transitioned transwomen as women? A few times he seemed, a bit dodgy. But Nic handled it well, as usual.

Vixxxy · 25/02/2019 00:09

Was McKinnon asked if she sees women as people who should have their own rights, for example? Asked if they understand that transwomen have male bodies still? I doubt it. Seemed biased and yeah the 'its intesting' part got my back up..but at least he confirmed that McKinnon does not dare debate Nic (as McKinnon has no arguments..)

MillytantForceit · 25/02/2019 07:48

The point about Martina's "any man..." comment is that it is not just about transpersons but the threat to womens sport from ringers.

Dr Nic was great. Well done to her! So calm and reasoned. Surely the majority of the UK population listening to her and to last week's travesty would be pretty clear who's talking sense here?

CallingDannyBoy · 25/02/2019 09:11

That was great - I think the complaints had an impact on the way it was conducted and the several mentions of Dr McKinnon not wanting to debate directly, l loved the example of the Beach volleyball team with the 6’4” transwomen player - it demonstrated the issue perfectly.

Iused2BanOptimist · 25/02/2019 09:24

Just listened. That was great. Well done Dr Nic, superbly prepared and argued. Just a bit of a shame such excellent discussion (and last week's travesty) have been tucked away late on a Sunday night.
Must go and have a look at Rachel's twitter after so many references to her refusal to debate. Grin

Iused2BanOptimist · 25/02/2019 09:25

Also looking forward to the beach volleyball. Grin

MillytantForceit · 25/02/2019 09:32

I think it's six-a-side indoor court volleyball, rather than two-a-side sand volleyball in your pants.

You win ONCE and suddenly they call the act of cheating a “McKinnon Move” like, that only works if it’s 1) cheating and 2) a move used over and over

Iused2BanOptimist · 25/02/2019 09:45

Rachel's on another rant today but doesn't seem to want to draw attention to FPFW and the BBC so has chosen a different target. Anyway I thought this was very interesting. October 2019 Manchester anyone?

Since our women cyclists won a fuck-tonne of medals at the 2012 Olympics at home - Victoria Pendleton becoming a household name and a role model- etc - I think women's cycling in the UK might be the wrong sport to fuck with.

MillytantForceit · 25/02/2019 10:30

Aaaah, British Cycling who told Jess Varnish to 'Go away and have a baby...?'

DoctoressPlague · 25/02/2019 11:01

Yeah, British Cycling cares about winning in all categories including women's. When other countries start sending male athletes to compete as women, I doubt BC will respond by focusing on the integrity of women's sports and "it's the taking part that counts".

2019StandingforWomen · 25/02/2019 11:23

October 2019 Manchester - if we are still in this mess then it's a date

MillytantForceit · 25/02/2019 11:31

Interesting that the superstar of British women's cycling is Laura Kenney, 5ft 2in and not much more than 50kg.

Vixxxy · 25/02/2019 11:43

I have a feeling McKinnon may be 'holding back' their next few races, just to prove a point. Can't remember where I read that thats usually what transwomen do in sport...

Popchyk · 25/02/2019 12:05

Good that Stephen Nolan repeatedly stated that McKinnon "refused to debate" with Nic Williams in the initial programme. Because 5Live's response to our complaints did not address that.

McKinnon was then invited by 5Live onto the programme again last night but McKinnon refused again.

So they allowed McKinnon to veto a guest and that is a breach of editorial standards.

Be interesting to hear the BBC's next response to our complaints. Because Stephen Nolan has basically said that the complaints were valid.

Bowlofbabelfish · 25/02/2019 13:45

Of course McKinnon won’t debate any scientist or medic - their word salad won’t stand up to anyone with even a basic knowledge of the field.
