Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 03/02/2019 22:28

.........In 2016 Jamie Shrup became the first official non binary person in the USA.

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/jun/16/i-am-first-official-genderless-person-united-states

Jamie has taken the brave step of returning to his birth sex. He now believes gender ideology is harmful. He believes that autogynephilia was root cause of the way he felt.

I hope he is okay. He's brave to be on Twitter. I hope he can move forward with his life.

Wow, will be interesting to read this. I applaud him for talking about it. I didn’t know you could officially become non-binary though? Is it just in the US?

Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 03/02/2019 22:39

I think it varies from state to state? New York has just brought it in

That's very brave of him to say

charlestonchaplin · 03/02/2019 23:08

The article is quite long so I haven't read all the way through but I agreed with most of what I did read. Maybe considering the issues he did here helped him come to the decision to detransition.

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 03/02/2019 23:40

Wow. I read the whole thing and it's Shock

He is absolutely damning about the whole medical-transition circus.

I hope this can be widely circulated (and doesn't get squelched somehow), as I think it could have a huge impact.

Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 04/02/2019 08:03

His essay is powerful, and hits so many nails on the head.

NotBadConsidering · 04/02/2019 08:09

I bet a million squillion pounds The Guardian won’t give him a chance to write an article about this. Interesting that the comments under that article from 2016 with highest recommends are all pro-science, biology, etc.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 04/02/2019 08:45

brave individual

he's going to get a lot of shit for this isn't he?

GCAcademic · 04/02/2019 08:50

I hope he sues some of the “professionals” involved. A couple of high-profile legal cases are what’s sorely needed to bring this whole scam crashing down.

GCAcademic · 04/02/2019 08:52

This is his Twitter feed:

ChattyLion · 04/02/2019 08:54

Wow. Flowers Haven’t read his longer piece yet just his announcement, but wanted to say how brave and principled this man is, to go against all of that fanfare and to tell the truth of his personal experience. I wish him all the best.

WokeNotBloke · 04/02/2019 08:56

I’m just lost why people keep blaming Judith Butler- she didn’t say men and women didn’t exist, did she?

There you go, feminists are to blame anyway 😏

merrymouse · 04/02/2019 08:57

Hmm. Not really sure about him tying it all into supporting Trump, who I don't think could care less about the issue, but is just using it as a way to grab attention and distract from other issues.

littlbrowndog · 04/02/2019 09:02

I read it. He has already had a huge amount of shit. See below some of what he wrote

The gender binary is what these kids needed destroyed, not their reproductive systems. They need the ability to safely express their gender variances, not cross-sex hormones. They think the world that’s been created for them sucks and that’s why they’re rejecting their birth sexes. Because they can’t dress like boys or girls unless they’re made into boys and girls. They can’t be gay, so they’re being surgically made straight instead. Parents need to keep them away from trans women at LGBT community centers that are teaching them that their penis is a birth defect and coaching them to say they were born in the wrong body to explain themselves. They need to stop being bullied when they’re gay or lesbian, so they don’t have to become men instead. They need to be taught that cutting on themselves won’t get them puberty blocker and will instead land them in the psych ward. They need parents and gender clinicians to stop telling them that they are boys and girls of the opposite sex and to start saying to them instead that their gender variance is normal.

Popchyk · 04/02/2019 09:08

Yeah, I just wonder if the detransition/Trump thing is him looking for his next "high". He's gone as far as he can go with transition to a woman, then non-binary.

Next step is detransition.

Which may then be followed by transition again when the reality of detransition hits him.

But he is brave nonetheless. And he is in for a lot of flak. But of course he is an army veteran (seems to be a theme).

Kinda worrying that Jamie got two doctors to confirm that he was "neither male nor female" when he brought his non-binary suit against the state of Oregon. You'd think that kind of thing would lead to the doctors being struck off.

merrymouse · 04/02/2019 09:09

The medium article looks really interesting - will read later today.

Still can't understand why he is talking about supporting Trump's policies though.

ChattyLion · 04/02/2019 09:10

I agree re Judith Butler is she is being ‘blamed’ in some way. Academic freedom is important.

ChattyLion · 04/02/2019 09:11

*if

NotBadConsidering · 04/02/2019 09:11

Hmm. Not really sure about him tying it all into supporting Trump, who I don't think could care less about the issue, but is just using it as a way to grab attention and distract from other issues.

Where is he “tying it all in to support Trump”? What he wrote was:

In addition to supporting the President’s ban on gender dysphoria in the military, I also support President Trump’s policy of recognizing and enforcing that there are only two biological sexes, male and female.

Admittedly I have only skim read the very long Medium article but didn’t see a mention of Trump. But what is controversial about this? I agree with it. I agree with Trump on this, in the same way I agree with him about how I would feel uneasy about my son playing American Football. So I wouldn’t necessarily see this as full support of Trump in everything, just on these issues. I will go and fully read the Medium article, so happy to be corrected.

In relation to this - thought this was very interesting - somebody shared on FB.

"....Despite how hard I’ve looked, I’ve yet to uncover any evidence that shows how transitioning females-to-males has hurt men or the patriarchy. But there’s ample evidence that transitioning males-to-females has severely harmed women. I struggle to understand how all parties involved in the transition process can’t see this."

It's not only that transitioning male-female has severely harmed women, but that transitioning female-male also severely harms women.

Every way we look at it women are the losers.

SisterWendyBuckett · 04/02/2019 09:45

Yes, it's a hugely courageous and informative article that catalogues and exposes so many truths.

The male voice of the author comes across very strongly, imo - which I thought was interesting.

I don't like the repeated use of the phrase 'trans kids' to describe gender non conforming or confused, traumatised, troubled, enquiring etc children and young people.

I also think the idea of non-binary being the panacea is something that may already have been superseded: it has been queered up to such an extent to become meaningless.

'Non-binary trans' people also take hormones and have surgeries (see Fox and Owl as prime examples.)
