“I also have a message to those people who believe they can restrict trans women’s rights, deny their human rights, or exclude them from women-only spaces in the name of feminism: You are not feminists. Your views are not welcome in the Liberal Democrats.”

Just in case anyone is interested in what the Lib Dems are saying.

Ooh do you think we could get Lynne on for a webchat? Shall we ask MNHQ

Grin Grin Grin

great idea

GCAcademic · 01/02/2019 20:39

It will be interesting to see what the webchats are like when the next general election comes round. I’m guessing politicians won’t be falling over themselves to talk to us like they have in the past.

LizzieSiddal · 01/02/2019 20:39

Thanks Lynne, Ibe voted Lib/Lib Dems in every single local and national election, for the past 32 years.
I’ll never vote for you again.

God knows who I’ll vote for though.

Ereshkigal · 01/02/2019 20:40

To Lynne:

That's nice dear. Your party is about as relevant and credible as the Natural Law Party. But as others have said, I will actively canvass to point out your views to as many misguided souls that I come across who might possibly have voted for you. So good on you for making those views quite so easy to disseminate.

No, we will be pariahs!

AnyOldPrion · 01/02/2019 20:42

*Her idea of a transwoman is someone like Jan Morris, cultured, sympathetic, nice. Not the shouty TRAs of Sisters Uncut.

Sarah Brown doesn’t come across as remotely nice or sympathetic. The LGBT Lib Dem Twitter account is deeply disturbing.
Helen Belcher presumably comes over as reasonable in person, but you don’t have to scratch the surface of Helen’s activism very deeply to see the weaponised use of suicide and the appalling pressure placed upon women.

I think they are careful not to look. Lord Paddick started to look, was immediately attacked, was the recipient of a complaint. I presume that came from SB, or someone related or similar. I believe it was retracted after a TRA who is less out of control pointed out that Paddick is one of their greatest assets and they would be mad to show him their true colours.

There are some truly devious minds at work here. They work hard to bury a lot of stuff that they know would give them away if the full truth was made public.

WokerThanWoke · 01/02/2019 20:44

Any mention of souls?

Grin fairy

Bluestitch · 01/02/2019 20:50

The Lib Dems must be scared of getting votes. About as relevant as the Greens now.

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 01/02/2019 20:57

the fact they are willing to throw me, my DD and every woman in the UK under a bus to appease a small, ridiculously vocal minority makes me so angry

This, take away rights of the 51% to make the ? 1%? happy. And by the way, the vast majority of the male 49% aren't that keen on their daughters, wives and mothers being forced to share with AGP males either. And no, we can't tell who the AGPs are. I would like Lynne to read the transwidows thread.

HaringeyHarpy · 01/02/2019 20:59

Lynne Featherstone mentioned Jan Morris in her House of Lords speech last summer, when the GRA consultation was going on. She also spoke of 'so-called feminists' then. It really seems to bother her that she doesn't have the monopoly of feminism. Must be feeling insecure about something.

And yeah, she can [what the other posters said] ...

welshgendercrit · 01/02/2019 21:07

That does it. A lifelong LibDem voter here and more recently a member. Off now to write a scathing resignation letter explaining exactly why they have lost my support and vote. I'm very upset, since so much of what they stand for chimes with my beliefs, but this is simply too much.

Voice0fReason · 01/02/2019 21:13

Nothing like telling women how important they are to your party.
Men take priority. Women know your place.
No vote from me.

This has been withdrawn by MNHQ at poster's request.

OldCrone · 01/02/2019 21:29

Here's something she said in that House of Lords speech.

In Committee, we had many arguments that are still used by judges today in court, because I argued against the protected characteristic of gender reassignment, which I felt misdescribed that protected characteristic. There is a spectrum, and gender reassignment somehow sounded as though you had to reassign your gender surgically or medically or actually do something. My argument at that point—there are copious words in Hansard—was that people feel very differently at different stages about their gender.

Odd that she calls herself a feminist but thinks that something called 'gender' is important. What does she mean by gender? Performance of stereotypes? Not very feminist.

papayasareyum · 01/02/2019 21:33

I thought this irrelevant party had disbanded ages ago??Confused

Popchyk · 01/02/2019 21:35

Quite the Freudian slip there. Grin

An admission that blokes should be able to do absolutely nothing in order to qualify for the gender reassignment protected characteristic.

HaringeyHarpy · 01/02/2019 21:37

And why, dear Lynne, does everybody else in this world have to care how someone feels about their gender?

When, since the Coalition government, child poverty has increased, as has rough sleeping, tuition fees have gone up to 9K, disabled people have been denied the most basic necessities, a UN commissioner has told the whole world that our benefits system was cruel and misogynistic ...?

I'm very happy for people to explore their femininity, masculinity, androgyny but to prioritise this in law is, in my opinion, a mistake, especially when it means taking away dignity, privacy and safety from women.

HaringeyHarpy · 01/02/2019 21:38

YY Popchyk

HaringeyHarpy · 01/02/2019 21:40

BTW, I've heard that Labour want to change the protected characteristic of gender reassignment to gender identity.

So Lynne might get what she wants.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 01/02/2019 21:41

You're an Anti-Woman and Anti Safeguarding party. Gotcha.

Thanks Lynne, I'll share widely.

FloralBunting · 01/02/2019 21:42

Hmm. 12 Lib Dem MPs elected to parliament in 2017. A slightly larger group than the magnificent lesbians who protested at Pride and sent ripples round the world.

Give me a minute to work out who is more relevant to women's liberation...

ChattyLion · 01/02/2019 21:47

If you hold stupid views that would risk women’s safety, privacy and dignity, it’s just taking the utter piss to then also try to claim feminism for yourself...

OlennasWimple · 01/02/2019 22:02

If the Lib Dems would rather have Aimee Challenor in their party than me, well that message is received loud and clear.

Say goodbye to any chance of electoral representation in the House of Commons for the next 50 years, Lib Dems.

Angryresister · 02/02/2019 00:04

yes I got a letter in my in box from Lynne and was furious that she expects women to vote for this crap. Here is my response in which I tried to remain polite
Dear Lynne Featherstone, I received this today and would like to ask to consider the views of millions of women and lesbians who are alarmed at the political parties( of all shades) adoption of the ludicrous idea that men can become women. We are alarmed that the notion of self id is now so embedded in people's minds that we are not allowed to question the ideology that allows men to be in changing rooms with children and Young girls, allows rapists into women's prisons, women's sports organisations, hospital wards...in other words ignoring the sex protections of the equality act where male violence is recognised and and women afforded the right to have separate spaces.
As a lesbian I object particularly to those I perceive as men's rights activists trying to break down our boundaries . They have nothing in common with us and we see a pernicious growth inthe influencing our children who might grow up to be gay men and lesbians, who look to the TRAs cult to solve their problems. They are not warned about about the dangers of hormones sterility etc and are then on the path to life changing and irreversible surgery. Included I the ideology is that they can consent to these things... So if they can consent to these, then presumably the way is wide open to consent to other thigs which generally we try to protect them from...sex with adults for example.
Trans issues have nothing to do with LGB issues. Nobody is saying TRAs people shouldn't have the right to dress how they choose, live their lives etc. But the push for self ID puts women and girls at risk, as can be seen from the frequent threats we receive. I believe that by for example welcoming Aimee Challenor Into the party with open arms, you are failing to see the dangers of the influence such people have. This man who covered up for his rapist father and ignored any idea of safeguarding within the Green Party . I hope you will agree that vulnerable people should not be in these influential position where children's and women's safety is ignored.
Finally I would like you to know I agree wholeheartedly with the Party's stance on Brexit ad indeed voted Lib Dem at the last election. However I cannot vote LD. as long as the party goes down the path of gender self ID, and other women and lesbians won't either.
Incidentally gay marriage is not the be all and end all for lesbians.
Sincerely

ProfessoressWoland · 02/02/2019 00:59

"Your views are not welcome in the Liberal Democrats"

Thanks Lynne, noted. I'd cancel my membership if I hadn't already done it a few months ago. It's a shame because my local LibDems are great, but I can't support the party when high-profile LibDems spout this hateful bile.
