“I also have a message to those people who believe they can restrict trans women’s rights, deny their human rights, or exclude them from women-only spaces in the name of feminism: You are not feminists. Your views are not welcome in the Liberal Democrats.”

Just in case anyone is interested in what the Lib Dems are saying.

Does she have any pearls of wisdom about Transmen?

merrymouse · 01/02/2019 18:35

forms for those who do not wish to identify as male or female.

Dear Lynne,

Thanks for the offer, but filling in a form will not enable to me to escape the consequences of being born female or to be recognised as anything other than female.

On the other hand, by re-enforcing the idea that there is such a thing as a correct female or male 'identity', but no such thing as female biology, you make my life harder.

Therefore, despite voting Lib Dem in every previous election, in a constituency where that makes a difference, I won't be offending you with my vote in future.

2ndWaveFeminist · 01/02/2019 18:35

Sal Brinton said it

MillytantForceit · 01/02/2019 18:36

Are those flying Yogis still around?

They might be the choice of reason.

MsMcWoodle · 01/02/2019 18:38

Message from the Gulag.
Cock off Lynne,

Doobigetta · 01/02/2019 18:41

I binned my LibDem membership a few months ago because of this shitty attitude to women. They still send me regular begging emails. Every single one of which has just been forwarded back to them with an explanation of why I will never give them another penny, and will campaign against them from now on. And I’ve promised to report them to the ICO if they keep abusing my personal data, that they no longer have a right to hold. I’ve set up an automated reply to keep bouncing back anything they send me with the same message.
Fing cs. They deserve to be annihilated. I suspect they will be.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 01/02/2019 18:44

I have a message for the LibDems: fuck off.

WeAreGerbil · 01/02/2019 18:51

I'm in a Lib Dems target area, politically homeless like lots of us, I won't be voting for them now, and I doubt that message won't go down well in our mostly rural constituency.

Fairyflaps · 01/02/2019 18:52

The LibDems lost me when they said a parliament made up of 50% men and 50% trans women would be an improvement.

@VaggieMight it was at a Fawcett Society event Ask Her to Stand

In one of the workshops later on, there were a group of women stating they felt politically homeless as there was no party standing up for women, while from another part of the room a deep voice from one of the toxic LGBTLD twitter account posse told us all what we were doing wrong.

Very pleased to spot some 'Women don't have penises' stickers in the loos later.

SlipperyLizard · 01/02/2019 18:54

I wonder if MRAs will similarly be required to centre transmen in their movements, or they’re not real MRAs?

Somehow, it is only the male bodied people whose desires must be centered. Tells me everything I need to know about how the Lib Dems view women.

I voted for them once (to keep the Tories out after moving to what was a “safe” Lib Dem seat). It didn’t work because they went into coalition with them. We now have a Tory MP, and the only realistic way to oust him is to vote Lib Dem. No thanks.

I will email my local candidate to let her know.

Oxytocindeficient · 01/02/2019 19:00

So just a message for women? What about transmen you exclusionary poo-face.

A message to the Lib Dem’s: I’ve voted for you twice. That’s twice too many and you won’t be getting another vote from me.
PS you don’t decide what or who is feminist so fuck off with that bullshit

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 01/02/2019 19:06

Just when I managed to persuade dh to vote lib dem and encouraged ds1 to join

Thats fine dh will go back to voting tory and im fairly positive ds1 subscription has run out

Dunno what im going to do though

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 01/02/2019 19:08

I might vote Lib Dem just to piss her off

Ooh nice, reverse psychology

I like it Grin

TopBitchoftheWitches · 01/02/2019 19:11

I don't want to remove or resist trans women's rights. I do however wish to keep biological women's rights and spaces as they are. Trans women are able to fight for their own spaces and I would support this.

I'd never vote Lib Dem after this.

HerFemaleness · 01/02/2019 19:20

These Genderists do get so outraged by unbelievers.

RepealTheGRA · 01/02/2019 19:21

Ooh do you think we could get Lynne on for a webchat? Shall we ask MNHQ Grin

SanFranBear · 01/02/2019 19:24

Doobigetta - I resigned my membership a good six months ago (after over 20 years of support, i might add) and I still get emails including this piece of shit from Lynne. I hadn't considered if from a PII angle but you're so right.. they need to remove my details! I'll get on that shortly.

They have become so blinded and it genuinely breaks my heart as they still stand for so much that I believe but the fact they are willing to throw me, my DD and every woman in the UK under a bus to appease a small, ridiculously vocal minority makes me so angry. Fuck them

andyoldlabour · 01/02/2019 19:27

The Lib Dems also welcome their newest member - Aimee Challoner - a shining star for the future.
Just when you don't think politics can get any worse!

Oxytocindeficient · 01/02/2019 19:27

What are ‘trans rights’ exactly? I’d like someone like Debbie from Birmingham or Miranda Yardley to speak to us about it. I’m sure they have, or they’ve written about it probably.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 01/02/2019 19:28

I that sense it means “whatever women have, we’ll take that from them”.

HaringeyHarpy · 01/02/2019 19:30

I met Lynne Featherstone once. She was a good MP. She did come across as quite stubborn, though, not exactly a nuanced thinker. She also described herself as a 'bitter' - make of that what you will.

I have no idea why she thinks it's her job to police feminism. That has never worked. Her idea of a transwoman is someone like Jan Morris, cultured, sympathetic, nice. Not the shouty TRAs of Sisters Uncut.

And yes, she and the rest of the Lib Dems are completely unelectable. She must be chuffed she'll never have to deal with those pesky voters and their difficult questions again, sitting pretty in the House of Lords. A privileged woman telling other women to check their privilege.

CallMeSirShotsFired · 01/02/2019 19:33

I also have a message to those people who believe they can restrict trans women’s rights

Aside from the fact this is utter bollocks, how about we look at the rights WOMEN and GIRLS will have TAKEN from them by force.

Do you think that she might be one of those new posters who have popped up over the last few days to tell us what we should think, and to criticise Posie...

Or is she simply after their votes. If so perhaps she should consider that ‘We are many...’

merrymouse · 01/02/2019 19:48

Her idea of a transwoman is someone like Jan Morris, cultured, sympathetic, nice.

Whose rights will also be eroded if, as per Stonewall guidance, 'trans' includes both people who have had extensive surgery and require continuous medical care and men who experiment with nail polish at weekends.

Why provide expensive treatment when you can print off a certificate. (Or maybe even a sticker if they are really good?)

Just think how many dedicated services can be eradicated without troublesome equalities legislation. Obviously it's best to start with women, as nobody really notices, but imagine how much money can be saved once race, disability and age can be ignored!
