Warwick Lecturers write letters of condemnation

Some of the lecturers at Warwick University have written letters condemning the early reinstatement of the vile little scumbags who sent misogynistic and racist messages about women.

This is the first one, but apparently there are more to follow. Will post as I see them.

Good!

FlawedAmazon · 01/02/2019 16:06

Another one from the English department. I wouldn't want to teach those vile little stains either.

Also, last time I looked the petition had over 8000 signatures.

For those that missed it, here's the link to the petition.

It's now 17,260 signatures strong!

This is brilliant!

People are genuinely horrified. This poor girl's a student there. My heart just broke for her.

What revolting little pricks they are.

RedemptiveCrocodile · 01/02/2019 17:36

I signed the petition. My dd will be looking at universities in a couple of years - Warwick won't be one of them.

FlawedAmazon · 01/02/2019 17:37

Utterly despicable. Someone mentioned that their parents have taken on lawyers to get them reinstated. Not sure if it's true, but if they have, it would explain why they've raised such repulsive individuals.

This is brilliant- I'm hoping so many members of staff and students will speak out- maybe even hold a stand? E.g not attend classes with them in, refuse to teach them etc.

I can't understand what the uni is doing with their decision to be honest! Maybe they were offered money or something from the boys parents? It's honestly so confusing, staff and students deserve answers.

So glad the boys have been named and shamed on social media too. I hate vigilante justice and don't agree with it but they need plastering everywhere so 1) girls can keep themselves safe & 2) hopefully it'll drive so much bad press for the uni they will be forced to kick them out.

GCAcademic · 01/02/2019 17:45

They’d have to have been offered a hell of a lot of money to make up for all the fees they’re going to be missing out on from applicants either withdrawing or not applying. You’re talking about millions of pounds.

anxiousbundle · 01/02/2019 17:50

@GCAcademic I did think that, probably not a money bribe then!

I can't wait to see their numbers of applicants fall... I wonder if anyone who accepted them as their choice for this September has withdrawn now because of it? I certainly would and would encourage my child too if they applied there.

endofthelinefinally · 01/02/2019 17:56

This is so sickening.
Those boys had every advantage, every privilege.
Their parents and their school should hang their heads in shame.
They deserve no sympathy or support whatsoever.

nauticant · 01/02/2019 17:57

It'll be the threat of legal action from the (parents of the) men. Someone high up in the university will have looked at a threatening letter from a big name firm of solicitors and will have thought "what do I need to do to get shot of this?"

Organisations, especially universities, can be fantastically prone to making idiotic decisions on the short term path of least resistance.

Juells · 01/02/2019 18:31

The 'investigation' was a joke.
The university's director of press, whose job it is to promote the university and protect its reputation, was appointed as the official investigator.

A spokesman said "All those who were interviewed as part of the investigation were asked about whether there were prior or existing relationships with those also involved.

So the women who complained had their sexual history examined, as if that might excuse threats of rape.

FlawedAmazon · 01/02/2019 20:05

The poor girl who did the BBC interview and was mentioned in the messages was interrogated. She was a victim but they fucking treated her like a criminal. Utterly disgusting.

Hidingtonothing · 01/02/2019 20:23

I've struggled to make any sort of coherent comment on the whole thing because it's just so abhorrent but am really glad to see this. Awful for everyone, staff and students, who can see how wrong this decision was and are now unwillingly associated with such reprehensible views.

seazer · 01/02/2019 20:34

I have just read something along the lines of the university coordinating when the men get back in line with when the complainants finish their study... in the bbc link.

So if I reading right, then they think it is ok if these bastards return as long as they won't run into the women they abused (as long as the complainants have finished their studies)... I mean wtf.

Were not those threats personal but then general they indicated they would sexually assault many and I read that as any women?

What if the complainant wants to stay on at uni, so a masters or change course?

I mean if those messages are not enough to get these people permanent kicked out of university then what is??

GCAcademic · 01/02/2019 20:37

One of the women has said that she wanted to say on for a masters but now will have to go elsewhere.

It's never been more competitive to attract students to uni's. Fewer 18 year olds, the ever-publicised debt, really good apprenticeships ... Warwick are absolutely barmy to allow this to happen. Anyone in their right mind will not want to study there now. Given that the first deadline to make your firm/insurance choice is the beginning of May, the timing really could not be worse.
But I rather suspect that the senior management are so far removed from real live and prospective students that they won't even consider this until September when they "suddenly" realise they have a deficit of several millions. Bloody idiots.

boatyardblues · 01/02/2019 20:44

The behaviour of these young men is revolting. I’m reminded of Trump’s comment about standing in 5th avenue, shooting someone and not losing any votes. Warwick’s decision to readmit these students tells every other male student with the idea of threatening and harrassing young women and female staff that the sanctions will be minimal, so crack on. If I was a female member of staff or student at that institution, I would be absolutely livid. Are their standards so low? Their care for their female students so lacking? Awful. Not an institution I would want either of my sons to attend if it allows such hateful behaviour towards women.

Dyrne · 01/02/2019 20:48

Has anyone else read the “statement” from Vide chancellor?

Begins with a vomit inducing paragraph about how much HE has been affected by the whole thing; chucks in a dash of “poor little boys now have to bear the shame of the allegations tainting their promising future careers and we have a duty of care to the poor darlings”.

In amongst it he flat out says they’re facing some legal threats; so looks like the two lovely young gentlemen have paid out for some legal heavyweights and the university has panicked.

Does anyone know if any of the victims would have a case for suing the university as well? Perhaps something about the university failing in their duty to protect the victims from harassment? I’d chip in to a fund for their legal representation, if so.

SeigneurLapindeGrantham · 01/02/2019 20:49

FlawedAmazon wish I could like your comment so succinctly put.
