''Pornography depicting a number of previously banned sex acts has been made legal in the UK after a review of obscenity laws.

Essentially, sex acts that are not illegal in another context can now be shown in pornography.''

''Certain types of violent porn are now permitted so long as the sex acts are consensual (focusing on ‘full and freely exercised consent’,) do not cause serious harm to participants, are not ‘inextricably linked with other criminality’ and are not likely to be viewed by anyone under the age of 18.''

@Room101isWhereIUsedtoLive no,but apparently now you can rejoice because you can take pictures of you doing it and show others without fear of prosecution . 🙄

ScipioAfricanus · 31/01/2019 22:35

You can just see inch by inch how certain groups of individuals are trying to change society, whether by changing laws, infiltrating schools, hiding behind charities.

Yes. This is also terrible news for teenagers and children growing up today. They are growing up with more and more boundaries being eroded and with porn becoming more prevalent and more extreme.

Room101isWhereIUsedtoLive · 31/01/2019 22:36

Mmmn, yeah, no thanks. Porn aanyway has a massively damaging effect. It took me a while to figure that out but now I have figured that out, I am of the view that restrictions around pornographic material should be tightened extraordinarily, espcially in regards to what is allowed to be depicted.
This lessening of restrictions is a huge huge move in the wrong direction.

ReanimatedSGB · 31/01/2019 23:39

Porn doesn't have a 'massively damaging effect'. This bullshit has been peddled for decades and the motivation of those in authority who spread it has always been the same: justification for increasing control and surveillance. Unhappy about your mail being examined, your phone being tapped, your internet usage monitored? Stop making a fuss, we have to make sure we stop those Evil Pornographers - and if you are 'sexually normal' you have nothing to fear.

Much of the resistance to the 'banned acts' list came from feminist producers and was based on the fact that the Government objected to things like face-sitting but were perfectly accepting of stuff like women gagging on cocks - it was a lot to do with letting the big companies take over the market (and produce only the most unfeminist stuff) while shutting down the independents.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 31/01/2019 23:56

Not read whole thread

The timing feels awful with the string of cases recently where men have killed women but got off v lightly as they had an erection at the time. Mostly strangulation.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 01/02/2019 00:00

Women on here who are back to dating report that men putting their hands round their throats with no warning is v common.

And that this is new.

If that's not from porn then where. Foolish to imagine all these men have independently decided to give it a go.

They try what they have seen. Men and boys have always done this. What they used to see was much tamer.

I don't get why anyone would pretend this isn't true.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 01/02/2019 00:00

Ditto anal

NothingOnTellyAgain · 01/02/2019 00:01

Ditto them randomly hitting women

Wanting to come on their faces etc

It's totally bleeding obvious that these changes in male wants /expectations are driven by porn.

Anlaf · 01/02/2019 08:19

Or when a man strangles a woman to death he can just say it was a sex act gone wrong and she just liked it rough?

40 odd examples here wecantconsenttothis.uk

I think strangulation "porn" would still be covered by Section 63 criminal justice /immigration act - but of course campaigners are keen to roll that back too.

Anlaf · 01/02/2019 08:22

Sorry 40-odd examples of women being killed in this way.

SirVixofVixHall · 01/02/2019 08:40

Agree ScipioAfricanus .

Poppyred85 · 01/02/2019 09:41

“feminist porn” seems to me to be an oxymoron. But then I’m one of those horrible SWERFs (I don’t think this is a banned term here like T*rf but apologies if it is).

A quick google search of whether there is evidence of porn use or early exposure to sexualised images came up with these, just from the first page...

This is not about what consenting adults get up to in the privacy of their own homes within the context of a relationship in which neither party is being paid to take part, even if they then decide to share the recording of those acts with others who want to see it. It’s about how increasing normalisation of violent and extreme pornography detrimentally affects children, young people and wider society. Choosing to see it as anything other than that is wilful ignorance at best.

Victoriapestis · 01/02/2019 10:39

What is the relationship between the cps guidance on obscenity (which is what I think is being changed) and the legislation banning certain forms of extreme porn? Does anyone know?

mixedabilitygroup · 01/02/2019 12:30

Legalising violent misogynistic porn is in line with the brexit funders and proponents though.

I suspect it's a bribe for the brexists.

There's usually a macro political reason for removing women's rights.

Piccolino2 · 01/02/2019 12:43

I read this yesterday and it made me sick. The extreme abuse of women is being legalised. Expect to see an increase in mortality and morbidity for women. More men will be getting away with maiming and murder. I have two little daughters and the thought of what will be 'normal' and sexually expected of them by the time they reach that age terrifies me. How fucking dare these men. I feel so so angry.

QuietContraryMary · 01/02/2019 13:02

"Legalising violent misogynistic porn is in line with the brexit funders and proponents though."

Say what?

MoltenLasagne · 01/02/2019 13:28

This is absolutely sickening. And again here come the comments from all the pro-fetish people who think that any change that allows greater abuse of women on film for orgasms is a good thing.

Question for all you cheering on here - how much collateral damage to you think is acceptable for your precious BDSM?
Is it a woman coerced into abusive sex for porn?
How about if that woman is tortured for porn but knows she has no rights because she's also coerced into saying that she consents on camera?
Or a woman who ends up seriously hurt because a partner gets a new idea from porn?
Or a woman gets murdered but her killer gets off because he tells the judge that she's into it?

Is that acceptable to you? How about if you multiply those numbers by ten, one hundred, one thousand? What if we say that we know the key victims of this are going to be the young, naïve and vulnerable?

You look at things through your individualistic lens and think that a change is good because it makes life marginally easier for you, all the while completely ignorant of the overwhelmingly awful impact it will have on society as a whole. How selfish can you get.

Googled the lawyer in the OP

justasking111 · 01/02/2019 13:34

I think my biggest problem is that whatever tricks folks get up to in their own home, is now filmed for a wider audience who in turn try these things out on willing/unwilling participants.

justasking111 · 01/02/2019 13:43

Well this man will be happy according to twitter.

WokerThanWoke · 01/02/2019 13:49

The MN phrase pro boner definitely applies here.

userschmoozer · 01/02/2019 13:49

Interesting comments on that twitter thread, including someone who is happy that non consensual acts will be legal to distribute, as long as the participants gave consent.

That lawyer couldn’t look more than the image I have in my head of a ‘desperate wanker who will do anything to legitimise his own porn addiction’, if he tried.

I could have drawn him.

QuietContraryMary · 01/02/2019 13:57

Yes, the fact that he is willing to work pro boner in the cause of porn says it all.

WokerThanWoke · 01/02/2019 13:57

Agreed Calvinsmam.
