;;Warwick students suspended over rape threats allowed to return early''
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-47060367

''Two students banned from the University of Warwick for 10 years for their involvement in a group chat that threatened rape will be allowed to return later this year, it has emerged.

One woman who was targeted said she felt "terrified at the prospect of having these boys in my seminars".

Several of those in the chat encouraged others to rape specific students.

The university said it had reduced the length of their bans to one year after they appealed.''

Will do

Berthatydfil · 31/01/2019 11:57

Signed

AncientLights · 31/01/2019 12:03

Signed. They should at least be kept off the campus till the women they were aiming it had left, then maybe allowed back after exhibiting suitable penitence. Stupid frat boys. Their mothers should tear them a new one.

HollowTalk · 31/01/2019 12:06

Signed. That's appalling.

ifonlyus · 31/01/2019 18:10

It's awful that the punishment dished out is so meaningless and lenient. University students should be bound to a code of conduct. Would a lecturer keep their job if they were found to be saying or writing such things? If not then the students should not keep their place at the University or be allowed to return at any point in the future.

I have great sympathy for the young women who were named in the group chat. On top of that though, University's lenient decision to let the young men back in to study after one year damages all females. The message to us all is that men can write the most vile things and incite violence and hatred towards women but it's not that big a deal.

SisterWendyBuckett · 31/01/2019 18:35

Signed.

I heard one of the young women involved being interviewed on the radio this morning. Devastating to hear the effect this has had on her and her friends.

misscockerspaniel · 31/01/2019 18:38

Signed. Does anyone know what these morons were/are studying?

FlawedAmazon · 31/01/2019 18:43

One's studying Modern Languages and the others are studying History misscockerspaniel

Shame they aren't learning the history behind the subjugation and oppression of women.

Illyria47 · 31/01/2019 23:34

And they looked such nice clean cut lads!
I wonder what their parents think, how these young men came to see this was acceptable behaviour.
This will only encourage similar behaviour from other young men.

Illyria47 · 01/02/2019 00:04

I think every single one of those young men should have to endure the 'walk of shame' when they return to the University.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 01/02/2019 00:10

Signed. What scumbags they are.

MillytantForceit · 01/02/2019 10:12

On BBC2 Now.

What a Shitshow.

And no surprise to me. I went to Coventry. The fashion victims up on the hill were always a bunch of Posh Russell Group Tossers* too thick for Oxbridge.

(*Apols to any Russell Group Tossers on here.)

Whisky2014 · 01/02/2019 10:12

What the fuck! They set up a new fb chat and said they dont think what they wrote was bad and one of the guys chats from home was worse! These people are IDIOTS. Not learned a thing and dont deserve to be at uni. Oh god, can you imagine if they became someone of power in a role, they would act like they were God and look down upon everyone and treat them like shit. Fuck no Warwick dont let them back!!

littlbrowndog · 01/02/2019 10:17

On bbc now

littlbrowndog · 01/02/2019 10:19

The students who were talked about in the chat were questioned on their sexual history with all of these guys

students who were talked about in the chat were questioned on their sexual history with all of these guys

WTF? By whom? The BBC, or the university?

MillytantForceit · 01/02/2019 10:23

...by the disciplinary panel that included the Uni's Head of Publicity.

littlbrowndog · 01/02/2019 10:26

Yeps
They were given a list of names and asked for each name to detail ther sexual history with each man

littlbrowndog · 01/02/2019 10:30

The young student who was talking
Said that in the chat she was named and the men said they would kill her and dump her body and then ejaculate on her body

Her friend who was named also on the chat. The men said they would mutilate her genitals

GCAcademic · 01/02/2019 10:30

There’s another thread on this case:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3494955-shameonyouwarwick

As I’ve just posted on there, I’m shocked but not surprised about the Press Director and questioning of the women. Warwick is renowned in the sector for being ruthless and corporate.

Whisky2014 · 01/02/2019 10:31

This just gets worse and worse

CandidCat · 01/02/2019 10:47

Just disgusting. DS is at Warwick in 1st year, and we're going to talk to him about this when we ring at the weekend. AFAIK he is a lovely lad, but all mums think that don't they, and I hate the thought of him getting sucked into this misogynistic culture that seems to prevail there.
