ReSisters groups in Manchester, Sheffield, Birmingham, Cambridge, Cardiff and across the country were out making a point for women last night and did an amazing job. Please share your photos here!

Fair Maid of Perth would have been a good one to do

TimeLady · 28/01/2019 20:46

Ha ha, the Pink News story is coming up in my MSN news feed. Only MSN have added the inverted commas to the PN title:

Activists 'deface' Cilla Black statue.

Well done, you adult human females everywhere

Vixxxy · 28/01/2019 20:48

Idon't know if the angel is a woman or a man. It seems to gain loads of attention when people dress it though. I am a few mins down the road, but have no idea how you would actually go around dressing her/him/zir/it..

MrsFogi · 28/01/2019 20:50

Bloody brilliant - how do I join the London group?

Oxytocindeficient · 28/01/2019 20:52

Yes I’d like London details. I’m sick of MN and would rather chat with women in real-life where I’m not tone-policed by people who expect us to put up with shit endlessly

DubBeGoodToMe · 28/01/2019 20:53

I’m after London details too. But from what I understand I don’t think the London group is ready or fully set up yet.

Sexnotgender · 28/01/2019 20:57

Great action!! Love it.

They’d have struggled to find many statues in Edinburgh to put a T-shirt on as there are more statues of DOGS than women in Edinburgh Angry

*not that dogs aren’t awesome but come on!

FlyingOink · 28/01/2019 21:10

claiming people with male bodies, including those who have had no surgery or any medical treatment are women, and should be able to access women’s single sex services such as changing rooms, women’s refuges, dormitories, single sex hospital wards and women’s prisons, as well as being able to compete against women in sports, and join associations such as the Girl Guides.
That's quite an article

Well done the ReSisters!

Tackytriceratops · 28/01/2019 21:11

Antony Gormley based the body on his own body as he does in most of his work. He invited members of the public to have their bodies cast for a piece at the Baltic when it first opened. Wiki: "The angel, like much of Gormley's other work, is based on a cast of his own body"

feministfairy · 28/01/2019 21:54

Such an inspiring day. And great coverage in the local press.

Well done women - fabulous!!

Bluestitch · 28/01/2019 22:03

I was coming here to link the Dunstable article, because I was quite shocked at how comprehensive and good it was. No tiptoeing around in case of offence, but clearly stating the reality of male bodied people in women's spaces. Well done!

LukewarmCustard · 28/01/2019 22:14

Brilliant work ReSisters.

I am spending hours at work arguing to keep using the term 'women' to refer to women, rather than the allegedly more inclusive term 'people'. It is tiring and demoralising when there is so much genuinely useful work that we could be doing. This fabulous protest has really raised my spirits.

2rebecca · 28/01/2019 23:51

There are 3 in Edinburgh now in the Resisters Gallery

FactsAreNotMean · 29/01/2019 00:13

I'm impressed they found 3 statues of women in Edinburgh.

BingBongSong · 29/01/2019 00:15

Well done ReSisters, and thanks for making me smile today!

Liverpool ReSisters, is your fabulous t-shirt on sale yet?

R0wantrees · 29/01/2019 00:34

Well done ReSisters, and thanks for making me smile today!

yes, this ^^

Someone suggested on another thread how great it would be to have postcards of these photographs.

(I'm sorry I can't credit them for the great idea)

Hackedoffwoman · 29/01/2019 07:01

Thanks Igneococcus. The share token doesn't seem to be working. Can you try again ? I really want to read past the first paragraph Smile

CallMeSirShotsFired · 29/01/2019 09:31

Anyone else think that specifically using the word "deface" reveals certain connotations about what PN feel about the word (or even concept of) "woman"?

ErrolTheDragon · 29/01/2019 09:58

Overwhelmingly positive comments on The Times piece. Smile

ErrolTheDragon · 29/01/2019 11:06

I noticed one of the comments is from George Monbiot - who is evidently on the side of women, and criticises the Times for 'siding with an unpleasant, aggressive minority rather than 50% of the population' - presumably for including 'transphobic' (in quotes) in the title - but also, responding to a reply praising the good work of Turner, Bannerman, Gilligan, he says that the Times frequently uses 'woman' for men 'identifying' as women, rendering language meaningless.

Good to see a firm line but I do hope he takes the Guardian to task!

thatdamnwoman · 29/01/2019 11:21

I've had a phone call from a friend driving through Swansea to say that this morning the t-shirt and banner were still there on the Swansea statue. Delighted that the citizens of Swansea and their council see no offence in the dictionary definition of 'woman'.

Mumfun · 29/01/2019 11:35

Brilliant campaign! Would have loved to put up some round London so yes looking forward to a London group!

ChewyLouie · 29/01/2019 12:49

How do you join a ReSisters group - not on Facebook/Twitter ?
