Pink news is crying and calling it "defacing". How is it defacing? lol

RedemptiveCrocodile · 28/01/2019 19:05

They kept using that word. I do not think it means what they think it means....

South Wales Argus report is ace.

AncientLights · 28/01/2019 19:08

Amy Johnson an avatar? No, think they mean aviator.

AncientLights · 28/01/2019 19:10

However, the person who wanted to burn the t shirt off the statue could have defaced the statue if they'd done it.

R0wantrees · 28/01/2019 19:11

From the South Wales Argus article linked above:
(extract)
"A spokeswoman for ReSisters United commented: “In today’s climate of hyper political correctness, the factual definition of woman has become taboo.

“The dignity, privacy and safety of women is at risk.

“With this action we send the message that women have the right to speak about our biology without shame, fear or retribution”.

“We'd say that we are not positioning ourselves against trans issues, we are standing up for the rights of women and girls.

“We're not anti-trans, we are pro-women.”

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 28/01/2019 19:30

Is this why the twitterati are getting all upset, hurty and hysterical?

Keep up the good work ladies...

R0wantrees · 28/01/2019 19:31

Nick Duffy's article in Pink News headline speaks volumes (about both Pink News and the quality of his 'journalism':

"Anti-transgender activists deface Cilla Black statue, peace monuments"

Gender Critical Feminists of South West Wales thread:

"So why have women been putting t shirts on statues up and down the country? And why with the dictionary definition of woman?
Women have fought long and hard for the right to be accepted fully as members of society:
•It is just over a 100 years since some women won the right to vote on equal terms with men.
•43 years ago discrimination against women in the workplace was made illegal
•Women’s entitlement to equal pay was not enshrined in law until 1970
•During the 1970’s the first women’s refuges and rape crisis centres were opened
•Not until 1990 were married women taxed independently from their husbands
•Rape in Marriage became a crime in 1994
All of these and other many changes have been brought about by the activism of women speaking out, protesting, fighting for their rights to be treated as equal citizens.
And yet we still live in a sexist society:
•#metoo reminded us that sexual harassment and sexual violence are still daily occurrences for women and girls
• pay gap reporting reminded us that men are still paid more than women
•Austerity has hit women harder than men
Women have spent 150 years fighting for their rights, some of the issues women have fought for we no longer notice & are taken for granted. The Women’s Sanitary Association was formed in the 1850s to campaign for women’s public toilets, to enable women to go out & about
Early women’s public toilets were vandalised and destroyed by men who did not want women to have that right. Women are still campaigning for adequate toilet provision on construction sites.
If we dilute the definition of woman, we will not be able to see this sexism, we will not be able to record it or nor will we be able to record how we progress in eradicating sexism.
Today we dress statues & sculptures of women in the definition of woman to remind everyone:-
we cannot take women’s rights for granted & we still have a long way to go in creating a world which is safe and supportive for women and girls.

Today we Stand Up for Women & Girls"

Amazing Grin

Vixxxy · 28/01/2019 19:39

And pink news are absolute trash. Defacing statues by putting t-shirts on them..yeah. And as always, pro women is anti-trans

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 28/01/2019 20:03

And yet projecting the sinister phrase ‘repeat after me - trans women ape women’ onto public buildings is what exactly?

I know it wasn’t ‘ape’ but one projection went over a window frame and it did look like it said ape. It amused me anyway.

Dunstable Today article,
'Dunstable’s royal statue dressed up for gender battle #WomenStandUp'

(extract)
"Statues of women across the UK, including Bedfordshire, now wear t-shirts stating the dictionary definition of woman: Adult Human Female. The Statues include Queen Eleanor in Dunstable and the Sea Scout statue on the Upper Lea Valley Walk near Luton, Sappho of Lesbos, in Howard Gardens in Letchworth, the “Tete a Tete” statue in Harpenden (Church Green), as well as statues in London, Manchester, Cambridge, Birmingham, Brighton and many other locations.

ReSisters United members say they are reclaiming the definition of women as “adult human females”.

Debate has swirled around the use of this definition in recent months, with some people claiming people with male bodies, including those who have had no surgery or any medical treatment are women, and should be able to access women’s single sex services such as changing rooms, women’s refuges, dormitories, single sex hospital wards and women’s prisons, as well as being able to compete against women in sports, and join associations such as the Girl Guides.

Organisations such as the Youth Hostel Association allow males to access female dormitories and showers as long as they self-declare their gender identity of “woman”.

Public bodies, government documents and lobbying groups are also removing the word “woman” to be replaced with phrases such as “menstruators”, “cervix havers” and “chest feeders”. ReSisters United reported that in recent years, women who continue to affirm that only women are female have been bullied, censored, assaulted and silenced. Last September, Leeds City Council cancelled a meeting room that women had booked to hold a public meeting to discuss proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act." (continues)

Anyone near the Angel of the North or the mermaid statue on the road from Glasgow to Stirling?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/01/2019 20:14

Shock That Dunstable Today piece is excellent!

Tackytriceratops · 28/01/2019 20:23

The angel is a man though, I think the idea is to look for female statues.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 28/01/2019 20:24

Have I just transed the angel of the north?

Bahahahahahahaha!

Tackytriceratops · 28/01/2019 20:25
Grin
LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 28/01/2019 20:27

Can’t we just get some that say

statue
/ˈstatjuː,ˈstatʃuː/
noun
a carved or cast figure of a person or animal, especially one that is life-size or larger.

Although they can be smaller I suppose

BlackForestCake · 28/01/2019 20:30

Minnie the Minx isn't an adult though!
