This whole hate speech/incident law is completely out of control. This is sinister.

There has been some lobbying of the government to expand hate crime to include sex/hatred towards women, like it is in scotland

ToeToToe · 29/01/2019 00:23

There will probably some press release in the near future, about 'hate incidents' against trans increasing a million percent - but they've shot themselves in the foot - because everyone will remember this.

There was some TRA person on facebook recently - who said "report it, we need the figures" or something. They'll try to use it as a lever as to why self ID must be enshrined in law.

OdeToDiazepam · 29/01/2019 00:25

I'm wondering if i have ground to make an official complaint about pc gul abusing his position to spread false scientific facts that are misogynistic and harmful to women. Complaints made via the official procedure have to be fully investigated.

ToeToToe · 29/01/2019 00:35

Well, I think it's a diabolical waste of police time and resources - when they solved, was it 8%, 12% ? of actual crime last year. I think Rowan posted the stats somewhere.

The elected police commissioner is laughing at people who have legitimate questions about this, and the Labour officials are OFFICIALLY supporting him. Incidentally, I checked out PCC Keith's twitter today - he's doing some fucking cushy conference thing today about how marvellous the policing of the future will be. They can't even attend burglaries or physical assaults now FFS. What a joke.

Harry should definitely complain. Perhaps we all should.

HouseOfMouse · 29/01/2019 03:03

I get the impression that their statement was written in a bit of a hurry and they will come to regret it. It’s mostly gibberish, plus they seem to be suggesting that the “30 tweets” were in fact transphobic - so are they now saying this would be a crime or not? They don’t even seem to know what they’re trying to say. (Although I doubt they even checked the tweets in question, just took the complainant’s word for it.)

Datun · 29/01/2019 03:35

Yes, an analysis of the '30 tweets' would be interesting.

Apollo440 · 29/01/2019 05:31

Obviously there is a plan to use the reported 'hate' stats to prove that a certain community is the most marginalised and persecuted community in the country and push for special treatment (no doubt some Orwellian, anti democratic legislation). In anticipation, it is good to call this out loud and often and don't let the authorities sweep it under the carpet until this policy is reformed or abandoned. At the very least the public will know to treat it with the ridicule and comtempt it deserves.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 29/01/2019 07:11

So by that flow chart a 'hate incident' really does mean nothing more than 'someone did something I took exception to'. Whether that taking of exception was in any way proportionate or sane or whether that communication actually was in any way offensive doesn't enter into it.

Which makes it as meaningless and pointless as the word 'transphobia'. Lunacy.

Government, all the unintended consequences of this law pointed out to you that you swore wouldnt happen? They've happened.

RepealTheGRA · 29/01/2019 07:22

The danger of amalgamating hate crimes with hate incidents is that some poor transsexual going about their daily life who gets glassed in the face by some arsehole in now going in the same category as misogynistic wankers objecting to biological facts on fucking twitter.

The general public will then think it’s all bollocks and have absolutely no sympathy whatsoever.

"Dear @Humberbeat How dare you publicly dox me, claiming that I have mad 30 “transphobic” (sic) tweets? I have engaged in debate around GRA. How the fuck even dare you!"

TimeLady · 29/01/2019 08:07

Just in case this hasn't been posted already:

In Britain, in 2019, George Orwell’s thoughtcrime has arrived.

RepealTheGRA · 29/01/2019 08:18

That’s a good article by Brendan, think it was him who pointed out on sky news that what was behind the removal of Posie’s poster was good old fashioned misogyny.

SmallHaddockAndChips · 29/01/2019 09:43

I’m of the opinion that being glassed in the face is just as bad whether somebody is a straight white man or a transwoman - yes it might be an aggravating factor but it doesn’t make the crime itself worse. This has just illustrated how easy it is to abuse the system - but is it any wonder when the agreed definition is this?

The criticism is not going away for Humberside. The contempt from the general public is palpable.

Curiously though I think there are trans allies making sympathetic tweets to combat it. Still massively outnumbered though.

TimeLady · 29/01/2019 09:54

Sympathetic tweets will only add to the public's opinion that the whole trans ideology is flawed. Bring them on. Grin

RepealTheGRA · 29/01/2019 10:01

I tend to agree with you SmallHaddockAndChips I’m moving more and more towards not liking hate crime legislation AT ALL.

Danaquestionseverything · 29/01/2019 10:01

Yep it’s not even just UK residents this has gone international, at least judging from people’s twitter bios.

Melroses · 29/01/2019 10:01

I thought hate incidents where there is no crime was stuff like leaving bits of animal on the doorsteps of religious buildings, where it is obvious what the intent was but no one can find anything to charge the person responsible with and it only a small step to more serious criminal stuff.

Danaquestionseverything · 29/01/2019 10:07

Yes it’s been blown out of all proportion now. When a hate crime is assumed due to claimed offense by the victim or, dare I say it, race of the victim or perpetrator, I think we have a problem.

It’s really moved so far from what it’s original intentions were it’s become a mockery.

Thingybob · 29/01/2019 10:14

That is so ridiculous SmallHaddockAndChips.

Unfriendliness? Dislike?

Bluestitch · 29/01/2019 10:24

Curiously though I think there are trans allies making sympathetic tweets to combat it.

Yes they are jumping on the allegation of 30 'transphobic' tweets. Or what most people would call 'reality'. I doubt releasing these tweets would make things any better for Humberside.

Danaquestionseverything · 29/01/2019 10:25

I note the use of “perceived”. Interesting, what happens when someone’s perception has no basis in reality.

Danaquestionseverything · 29/01/2019 10:27

We that was in reference to Haddock & Chips.

HouseOfMouse · 29/01/2019 10:28

“Unfriendliness”??? Ridiculous. That could include so-called “cotton ceiling” rejection of a potential sexual partner.

(That said, there still needs to be a criminal offence motivated by this for there to be a hate crime. Humber Police have completely misdirected themselves here.)

SecondRow · 29/01/2019 11:02

Doesn't that flowchart also show that only in the case of a hate crime should attempts be made to track the poster down in real life? Confused

I am not sure what "consideration of user terms" means. But the IP address is only requested for crimes, not "incidents".

It seems very likely that the complainant reported a complete "package" of the 30 tweets, PLUS "and here's who he is in real life, AND here's his workplace" to the police, so they had no excuse for not doing something...
