Hadley Freeman getting it in the neck on Twitter

Because Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted a link to Mermaids. And Hadley replied:

mobile.twitter.com/HadleyFreeman/status/1087259041565474816

Twitter has completely kicked off in the past couple of days, it's so noisy.

Being a Graun writer who is both Jewish and GC I suspect Hadley has long run out of fucks to give.

NotTerfNorCis · 21/01/2019 14:15

So you’re ok with them promoting a suspended doctor who prescribes questionable hormones to children? Or cheering at the prospect of children being operated on without psychological assessment? Supporting trans kids is commendable, Mermaids is not the way to do so.

Hadley is properly GC! Star

Well I haven’t been in Twitter in years but I reconnected to thank Hadley.

GrinitchSpinach · 21/01/2019 14:16

Oh lord, yeah, that's a mess.

MutantDisco · 21/01/2019 14:30

@Freespeecher Julian Vigo is an anthropologist and author, and a reliable voice in this mad debate

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is one grand disappointment. Pro Mermaids, pro-Russia sanctions, what is next?

MutantDisco

Thanks for the heads up - so confusing trying to work out who's tweeting in good faith and who has an angle to push.

RedToothBrush · 21/01/2019 16:01

DH logged onto twitter the other day and saw a random tweet about something completely unconnected to trans issues by Hadley

He then saw the replies and was utterly shocked about how she was being attacked and 'bullied' (his word) by TRA trolls. He's not taken what I'd said seriously about how militant they were and he was stunned to just bump into it on his own.

He's more relaxed about the subject than me, but his response to the attacks on Hadley were to be sympathetic to her and be really very angry and annoyed with the attacks.

He could not understand why she had merited such comments for what he saw as no reason at all.

Oh and he liked the article Hadley had written and thought she was smart and interesting to read.

So if you do read this Hadley, thats whats coming across to others who aren't in the midst of this crap.

Thus is why Im so concerned about a coming US war with Russia -- the neocons have always wanted it, and the liberal-left are full of bellicose demagoguery. They know absolutely nothing about Ukraine, but are ginning up war over it.

Tell me more about it. I have the same fear. Mainstream media in Europe (staunchly pro-Nato no matter what) also try to reframe the narrative, Russia threat here, Russia threat there... Gorbachev's vision of a 'common house of Europe' long forgotten. When I heard Yatsenyuk (Vicky Nuland's 'our guy') had said on German TV the Russians had always been a threat, like back in the days of WWII when Russia attacked Germany I almost choked on my lunch (some of my ancestors were there, you know, and this is not what went down. Heck, one was sent to Russia, to 'defend (!) the German Reich'). And if you are antiwar, quickly, the media will say you sympathize with Putin and whatnot. There is a concerted effort on both sides of the Atlantic designed to push us into conflict, imo. And most of politics are part of it (including parts of the European Greens!).

Really off topic, but I totally agree.

Helmetbymidnight · 21/01/2019 16:12

Jaysus, they’re really, really aggressive.

Helmetbymidnight · 21/01/2019 16:18

ACO says: Going by track record, I’d feel safer in a bathroom w/ a trans woman than a powerful male executive any day of the week.

I don’t get how she’s differentiating the two here- what about a powerful transwoman and a meek male executive?

Meek male executive ? Never met one, do they exist? Meekness is not highly valued in the corporate world

ArfArfBarf · 21/01/2019 16:23

Loads of white men telling her to shut up because they don’t like her “white feminism” Hmm

Helmetbymidnight · 21/01/2019 16:26

If executives are automatically powerful, then why say powerful?

MsVanillaRoseAuntof7 · 21/01/2019 16:27

I used to love Hadley, but she turned vile and started referring to all Corbyn supporters as cultists. Nothing wrong with wanting an honest politician who cares about ending poverty.

Helmetbymidnight · 21/01/2019 16:31

Do you think she actually ‘turned vile’?

MutantDisco · 21/01/2019 16:34

msvanilla she probably detests Corbyn because of the perception that he allows anti-semites to have free reign (I don't fully agree and am vehemently opposed to Israel's treatment of Gaza etc).

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 21/01/2019 17:01

When did it become acceptable to talk about people like this? You're vile, you're trash, you're disgusting. This is verbal abuse.

"Nothing wrong with wanting an honest politician who cares about ending poverty"

Yes, JC's account of his wreath laying antics were particularly honest - a real breath of fresh air. "I wasn't there - I didn't take part - no wreath - oh, maybe here was, and I laid it, but not for the people I thought, etc, etc"

And as for poverty, Venezuela, run by people JC used to and still seems to support, has a population slowly starving to death. No sure if this is a good omen.
