Hadley Freeman getting it in the neck on Twitter

Because Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted a link to Mermaids. And Hadley replied:

mobile.twitter.com/HadleyFreeman/status/1087259041565474816

Twitter has completely kicked off in the past couple of days, it's so noisy.

You're vile, you're trash, you're disgusting

yes, so rather than saying what someone has done to offend you, you just insult them.

'turned vile'

using an adjective about a group of people in a way you disagree with is 'vile'

crikey, heaven forbid anyone leaves the toilet seat up in your house

So much love for Hadley.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez doesn't need to listen to non-Americans here. She just has to think about how it plays at home. Like those yanks who used to support the IRA.

NotANotMan · 21/01/2019 20:11

Hadley has been out as GC for ages. She can handle herself!

AngryAttackKittens · 22/01/2019 07:19

When I heard Yatsenyuk (Vicky Nuland's 'our guy') had said on German TV the Russians had always been a threat, like back in the days of WWII when Russia attacked Germany

That sound you heard was my jaw hitting the floor. WTF? Have history books been banned or something?

Meanwhile, Hadley remains an impressive voice of reason in the middle of the smoking embers of what used to be a decent newspaper. I wonder how long she'll keep that job for.

How it plays at home, in an extremely litigious society.

Tort lawyers lining up to figure out the best way to sue, is what I see. One girl, from the right (rich) family molested because an organization followed bad advice about sleeping arrangements is all it will take for precedents to be set.

What AOC doesn't have to worry about is long term. Short term is how politicians think. Do now, apologize later.

Plus, she has the wind of both the Bernie Bros with their sock puppet accounts, and the media promoting her to prove there was a reason they gave Bernie all that free air time in 2016.

I rather like AOC, but she has a long way to go to prove she's a lasting phenom.

Well, Angry, after first hearing it, and after my initial shock, I looked the clip up on the computer, thinking, this cannot be. And there it was. And it went unchallenged by the interviewing journalist on national TV. (Viewers did complain afterwards, but I mean...).

Obviously at the very end of WWII, Russia did march into Germany (as did the Western allies), but, I mean, we all know 'stuff' happened before that. We (the West) are allying with some pretty revisionist, nationalist forces in Ukraine and the Baltics to counter Russia and it really concerns me. It runs counter to everything I know of and extended family experienced in WWII.

As for Hadley Freeman, I commend her for taking a stand in this climate.

BettyDuMonde · 22/01/2019 11:37

I hope Hadley has found the same twitter setting that Graham Linehan is happily making use of!

angelwithalariat · 22/01/2019 11:58

I think AOC is one of those politicians you automatically want to like. I mean, I don't know much about her at this point - just saw something about her, thought 'I like her' and then immediately distrusted that response.

It may well be a deliberate attempt to hide the fact, that during the 1941 invasion of Russia by Germany (Operation Barbarossa), around 238,000 Ukrainians joined the Waffen SS to fight against Russia.

Mhm. From what I know, nobody will sell me the 'high-minded freedom fighter' story about the Ukrainian nationalists who now call the shots there. They can shout 'you are Putin's useful idiot' at me all they want, I know what I know.
