Just that really. He is retiring shortly and women's sport will miss someone who championed it.

I was sorry to read this.

LangCleg · 11/01/2019 17:23

Even this saggy-titted, hard-hearted, non-compliant old crone wiped a solidarity tear away when he cried at his press conference.

I bloody love Andy Murray.

Roguebludger · 11/01/2019 17:25

So sad for him. He's been amazing for tennis and a real champion for women. (adult human females).

TheFaerieQueene · 11/01/2019 17:26

I’m sure he will still be a powerful voice after he retires.

HollowTalk · 11/01/2019 17:26

I agree - he's been brilliant for women.

FloralBunting · 11/01/2019 17:28

Yes, he's retiring from competition, but I very much doubt he is going to take the tonsure and retreat to a small island off the coast of Scotland in solitude for the rest of his days. Murray will continue to use his well deserved platform for good, I'm sure.

userschmoozer · 11/01/2019 17:28

It doesn't seem to have harmed his career, so whats everyone else's excuse?

womanformallyknownaswoman · 11/01/2019 17:29

I wonder if we can recruit him.....

ToeToToe · 11/01/2019 17:30

I love Andy Thanks

AbsintheFriends · 11/01/2019 17:32

I was sorry to hear this too, and I'm not usually remotely interested in sports news or personalities. It's funny how this issue has shown people in their true colours though, and Andy Murray has been a courageous advocate for women, truth and common sense.

Another one hoping that he'll continue to speak up (and perhaps do it even more) when he retires. And wishing him well for the next chapter of his life.

corlan · 11/01/2019 17:36

I don't follow tennis, but I'm sorry to hear this too.

Andy Murray is the antithesis to the 'woke bros' who pay lip service to supporting women. He hired a female coach and he corrected journalists' sexism in a quiet but assertive way. He is a rare and talented man.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 11/01/2019 17:37

I think it says it all that the news of his retirement broke this morning and that by this afternoon, there have been enough tributes for them to be able to write an article just about his support of the women players.

I really felt for him in his press conference.

Raglansleeve · 11/01/2019 17:39

Was sorry to hear he's having to retire so early. Have met him and he comes across as a thoroughly decent man - he's also very funny Grin. He may be able to speak out a bit more when he's away from the circuit.

pachyderm · 11/01/2019 17:40

I fancy him as wellBlush

NewYearsNiamh · 11/01/2019 17:41

I’m gutted for him. Such a shame his career has ended like this.

Theswaggyotter · 11/01/2019 17:43

I love Andy too, not just for his amazing tennis but for the way he has tackled sexism in sport. I’m sure he will continue to do this but it’s heartbreaking for him to have to end his career early.

LangCleg · 11/01/2019 17:44

I fancy him as well

He's got nice legs. All tennis players have nice legs. Strong reason for watching tennis, if you ask me. Wink

feministfairy · 11/01/2019 17:45

Another fan here. He's an excellent role model and been a great advocate for women's sport. I was very pleased to see that the legend Billie Jean King was one of the first to recognise his achievements.
We need more men like him.

FairfaxAikman · 11/01/2019 17:50

I doubt we've seen the last of him. The broadcasters will be battling to sign him up as a pundit/presenter.

I like Andy Murray a lot but he can't win with some folk Daily Mail commentators- he's either a personality vacuum or he's too emotional Hmm.

AgentCooper · 11/01/2019 17:52

He is a brilliant role model for boys. He stands up for women quietly yet firmly because it's the right thing to do, not because he wants everyone to see how woke he is.

A good, sensible Scottish boy (and I feel quite maternal towards him though we're the same age Grin)

EatCrisps · 11/01/2019 17:59

I love Andy! He seems like a great guy in addition to being talented. It's great to see someone use their platform for equality the way he has

MrsSnippyPants · 11/01/2019 18:06

Just a wonderful man, a great role model and 'gets' women I think. I will miss watching him play so much Sad

Haworthia · 11/01/2019 18:10

Love him. His career has been marked by so much public hate, all over a tongue in cheek “anti-English” remark. His Wimbledon and Olympic wins were incredible. He’s also really funny as well as a great feminist ally. So sad he’s being forced to retire so young.

newtlover · 11/01/2019 18:44

I have a big hole in my brain where sports should be but still felt for him when I heard the news this morning, as people have said a great role model for boys as well as a voice for women

MsTSwift · 11/01/2019 19:20

“Male tennis player” will never forget him correcting that numpty journalist
