Transmen confronted by security guards at men's toilet

I found this baffling.

www.telegraph.co.uk/education/2018/12/21/transgender-students-win-apology-told-use-gender-neutral-toilets/

Can you imagine that happening to transwomen in a university? The implication is pretty obvious, isn't it?

What's baffling? That a security guard would not tell a transwoman off for being in the ladies, as opposed to using the gender neutral loos?

Bowlofbabelfish · 05/01/2019 17:58

It’s interesting because of the double standard. Transwomen were allowed in Hampstead pond female pool for example, but the police were called on the Man Friday protestors.

It’s interesting because when men exert their right to a single sex space, they are backed (security removed the person) but when women try to exert the same right, they’re told they are bigots.

The interesting thing is the different ways each sex is respected.

Bowlofbabelfish · 05/01/2019 17:58

What is a gender neutral loo anyway?

It’s a mixed sex loo. Call it what it is. Mixed sex.

ScipioAfricanus · 05/01/2019 18:02

I don’t see why they couldn’t have respected all the men who would rather not have them in their toilet and have used the unisex toilets.

I appreciate that trans men may have been stopped more than trans women, and that going to the men’s toilet as a biological woman is a different power dynamic from long to the women’s toilet as a biological man, but these people seem just as entitled and ridiculously impressed by their own supposed uniqueness as the trans women riding rough shod over others’ voices.

ScipioAfricanus · 05/01/2019 18:03

from going not from long

FlyingOink · 05/01/2019 19:36

I read the story like this: contract security staff member working at evening event sees two females going into the gents. Security agent may have had prior experience of or suspicion of any of the following: the two were going in to have sex (not allowed) do drugs (not allowed) sell drugs (not allowed) sell themselves (not allowed) or may have put themselves in danger (if they had been attacked in the gents and CCTV showed the security agent saw it, is the agent then at risk of being fired at the least?)
Security person then asks for ID. Asks why they didn't use an alternative facility. Is met with outrage. Explains he has been tasked with asking for ID if there is suspicious behaviour.
The two students get their story in the telegraph and the security officer gets a reprimand for not being a mind reader.

Honestly, what else could that person have done? Turn a blind eye completely? What's the point of hiring security if they aren't allowed to challenge anyone? Also, neither of the students is identifiable as a man based on outward appearance, so is the security person expected to gauge their gender identity from their aura?

littlbrowndog · 05/01/2019 22:30

Och they both look like women
The guard was right
They can’t be expected to know the ladie# were not dudes
Feck
Them 2 were being goady idiots
They should have gone to the neutral loos

littlbrowndog · 05/01/2019 22:32

Oh yeps bowl
The mixed sex loo

FeckTheMagicDragon · 05/01/2019 22:33

Maybe men don’t want femaleswhoidentfyasmsles seeing their todger whilst taking a pee.

littlbrowndog · 05/01/2019 22:35

Wee whiny idiots is what they should self identify as

littlbrowndog · 05/01/2019 22:37

And they should be wearing T-shirt’s with that on it so the rest of us know
Wee whiny idiots in block capitals

Melanippe · 05/01/2019 22:48

Then there's going to be a lot of shy men should the push for mixed sex loos gain traction, aren't there. Poor lambs.

RadicalStitch · 05/01/2019 22:54

They are women. They should use the women's bogs, and if that makes them feel uncomfortable they can use the mixed sex ones. Not baffling at all.

FlyingOink · 05/01/2019 23:01

I don't know if it's just shy men. Ever see a bloke finding a lost child? He desperately looks for a woman to fob the child off onto. Actual false accusations may be rare but men are terrified of them. I can imagine a bloke with his willy out isn't going to feel comfortable if two girls walk in.
In the grand scheme of things it's hardly the biggest issue with self-id but I'm sure it'll get plenty of traction.

Think we need a t-shirt with this on Bowl!!

BlytheSpiritsSpirit · 06/01/2019 06:35

Security guard missed the recent training session on "how to sense the gendered soul of patrons" and now look what happens.

If transwomen had been confronted by security men when exiting the Ladies, the whole student body would be out with placards.

But it wouldn't happen anyway, as the security men would know better than to risk it.

Nothing shows more clearly what a pretence the whole thing is. Everyone knows these are women, just as everyone knows that men are men. But men have male privilege, and women don't.

Bowlofbabelfish · 06/01/2019 13:22

Men don’t want women in their loos either. And they shouldn’t have to put up with it. I fully support men on this one.

The thing is though - when men say no, the security guards get involved. When women say no, they are met with an entirely different reaction.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 06/01/2019 13:51

Yup! I fully support the security guard here.

Now, if only they'd do the same when transwomen try to use the female facility...

If it's daft one way then it's daft the other. There can be no 2tier system (hollow laugh)

CuriousaboutSamphire · 06/01/2019 13:53

Or do I mean I agree with the men. Transwomen get to make that decision, do transmen should too. And did any man who feels uncomfortable.

I seem to have misplaced my sense of right/wrong/equitable!!

GerryblewuptheER · 06/01/2019 13:54

I'm with the security guard too. Men deserve privacy and dignity as well.

There's a GN loo. Use that. This is the hit you take. Sorry

CuriousaboutSamphire · 06/01/2019 13:55

Crikey, posting on a phone makes all sorts of odd substitutions... A bit like Tesco 😀

nauticant · 06/01/2019 14:01

In general, women don't want men in their toilets because of fear for their own safety and for comfort/dignity.

In general, men don't want women in their toilets for comfort/dignity.

There's a fair amount of overlap. It's just that men have little concern about being physically overpowered and raped by transmen.

Juells · 06/01/2019 14:05

Exactly, Bowl :( Sauce for the goose is never sauce for the gander, ganders are special because penis.

KindOfAGeek · 06/01/2019 14:12

Men are just as firm about enforcing the "no women allowed" rules as they are in insisting TWAW.
