Meanwhile women pay for their own hair removal methods/laser/electrolysis for yes including their face, for hormonal, pcos, other conditions, or genetic hirsutism.

anniehm · 03/01/2019 23:07

Since I I reached my 40's I've got increased facial hair, I pay for removal, why wouldn't trans women? I don't begrudge surgery after a period of transition but the cosmetic elements shouldn't be part of it. I've got massive lumps (benign) that I cannot have removed as it's not medically necessary, as no gender reassignment surgery is medically necessary, yes it annoys me!

LonginesPrime · 03/01/2019 23:38

If it's as vital to Jessica's happiness as she claims, why would she not get it done privately?

That's what the rest of us have to do when NHS keep us and our DCs waiting too long for treatment (assuming we're fortunate enough to be able to afford it), and laser hair removal doesn't cost half as much as all the actual necessary health treatments that many of us have had to go private for.

It's fucking infuriating that things like CAMHS are so under-resourced when shit like this is being funded by the NHS.

Also, I don't believe that she's just sat at home and cried about it for 6 moths if it's as important as she says.

Ha. Women are repeatedly told to get rid of excess hair if they want to conform to society’s standards of feminists. And to spend £££££ on beauty products and treatments. Looks like you got what you wished for love.

LegoFilledMyLife · 04/01/2019 20:04

standards of femininity. 🙄

HermioneWeasley · 04/01/2019 20:08

So women with actual medical issues causing hirsuteness do not get treated, but males with perfectly healthy bodies do. Sounds legit.

Babdoc · 04/01/2019 20:27

Real women pay for their own hair removal. If this person believes that ”trans women are women”, they should pay for their own too. They can’t have it both ways. Typical entitled narcissistic male attitude.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 05/01/2019 22:11

Another one with PCOS and guess what?! I’m not entitled to laser or electrolysis through the NHS.

It’s not the cause of my mental health issues but it’s certainly contributed to it in the past. I can grow a better beard the my brother.

It’s got to the point where I have accepted that I have stubble coming in by 4pm. Sometimes it gets me down but there is not a lot I can do about. I just thank my lucky stars that I’ve avoided hair loss so far.

So...who do we write to? I am going to send the article on to my MP querying why I have to wait months and months for an appointment and in the meantime my condition deteriorates and leaves me unable to care for my toddler without help, when this person is apparently eligible for medically unnecessary hair removal. Is there anyone else we should be writing to? I wonder about CCGs. I will look into it further but are they responsible for allocating funding to services in each area?

BlindYeo · 06/01/2019 16:49

My dear NHS
I need some redress
My stubble is growing
My beard it is showing
I look like a man!
(Even though I am.)
Though cis women pay
Please cough up today

Honestly? It took months for my best friend to get the scan she needed to tell how far her cancer has progressed. By the time she got it she was 4th stage...
