The comments are pretty sharp

26 months wait for a disability assessment here.

BlackeyedGruesome · 03/01/2019 15:21

considering the wait we have had for various conditions I think three months is nothing really and I have very little sympathy considering the serious things other people are waiting for.

heathspeedwell · 03/01/2019 15:22

So much of this is based on the false statistic that 48% of trans people attempt suicide.

We need to encourage the government to prioritise proper research led by scientists rather than by a biased pressure group so we could find out the true figures.

There would be a paradigm shift in the way the whole debate is framed. As a direct result the NHS would save millions over the coming years and hundreds of children would escape a lifetime of unnecessary medication.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 03/01/2019 15:34

Pcos here as well

Self funded hair removal and shaving here as well

Mine is very low level, just a slight excess of hair...goodness knows how other womyn manage who have a lot more hair

MargueritaPink · 03/01/2019 15:37

This is the worst rated comment on the DM site. I wonder if it is meant to be sarcastic

She seems like a great person. Its a shame that transgender people suffer in this manner. If only the conservatives would fund the NHS properly

MrsJayy · 03/01/2019 15:43

Women usually sort their own hair removal out women with pcos don't get laser treatment priority menopasal women don't get hair removal priority, yet this snowflake is whinging to the papers go pay for it! Jesus wept

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 03/01/2019 15:46

I did to be fair get 20% off

But i needed extra treatments so it kinda cancelled itself out

ClaraMatilda · 03/01/2019 15:47

This is ridiculous.

I think I'm actually more incensed by the awful 'What is Gender Dysphoria?' infobox that goes with the article.

"Its exact cause is unclear and was initially thought to be psychological.

But more recent research suggests it may be the result of abnormal development when a baby is in the womb, possibly due to genetic or hormonal factors.

The first signs of the condition can appear at an early age through a child refusing to wear clothes typical to their gender, or refusing to take part in boys’ or girls’ activities."

Complete with signposting to fucking Mermaids. I guess when I refused to wear pink as a four-year-old girl I should have been transed.

HomeStar · 03/01/2019 15:49

That article must be designed to peaktrans people. Maybe the Mail have realised they whip up more outrage and more clicks if they present a faux-sympathetic angle? Maybe they don't dare to openly offend the trans lobby? It's quite interesting how subtle they're being about it compared to their usual style!

Fatted · 03/01/2019 15:50

My son is currently having to wait 6 months for his speech and language referral. There are people waiting longer, much longer, for life saving surgery.

I am curious to know why she needs to shave twice a day?! Does it really grow that fast?!

NicoAndTheNiners · 03/01/2019 15:54

Give them enough rope and they are hanging themselves. Talk about peak transing the nation! Good girl keep going.

Fanjita1 · 03/01/2019 15:55

In the meantime, normal people pay for that choice.

ReflectentMonatomism · 03/01/2019 15:59

FFS. So "boys' or girls' activities" (did I miss a meeting and wake up in 1959?) are predetermined by genetic or hormonal factors? And this is the shit that people who think they are progressive are arguing?

Ten years ago when I was first reading MN, it was full of people who were well intentioned but a bit naive saying "it's fine for my son to wear a dress to school, isn't it?" and being told "yes, if he wants, but there may be social consequences". Now it's "has (s)he considered surgery?" This is not progress.

gendercritter · 03/01/2019 18:12

I was interested reading this because just 2 years ago I'd have read that and thought 'that's so awful. She's been born in the wrong body and how terrible to have to wait for even the most basic help to correct that. She must be suicidal with it all.'

Yeah, no. The narcissism just drips out of the article doesn't it? It's heartening to see the comments

I have a 50k bill to pay over a few years for treatment the NHS refuses to fund despite the fact it's for a pretty limiting medical condition and the surgeries are life-changing. People with the same condition very occasionally get funding but most don't and some of those people are really disabled by it. My surgeries should prevent me reaching that level of disability and suffering complications and needing care.

MyBreadIsEggy · 03/01/2019 18:14

My Nan has had her cataracts surgery postponed/cancelled/rescheduled 3 times since October.
She’s essentially blind right now.

Screw you and your beard Hmm

NEXT!

If they cave into this they better start supporting women " ADULT HUMAN FEMALES " who suffer from PCOS.

The fucking arrogance of these people

Flooffloof · 03/01/2019 18:35

This comes up a lot and I agree, as a jeans, boots and t-shirt wearing young girl and now woman I guess I too should have been transed.
I even (shock gasp horror) wondered if I should have been a boy for about a year when I was around 12 ish.

I never mentioned this out loud cos yeah not cool. But imagine if that was me now. God I would be on hormones and "living as" a boy.

As for Jessica well just keep on shaving dear, or never leave the house, or brazen it out or y'know pay for your own treatment.

NewYearBetterHealth · 03/01/2019 20:05

I have idiopathic male pattern hirsutism.
Otherwise known as unlucky genetics with a full beard from just under my eyes/top of cheekbones, right down to my neck.
Used to be pretty lustrous as well Wink

Well after years of bullying, razors posted through the letterbox etc I spent probably near £10,000 over 5 years for top notch laser. (Electrolysis really didn't touch it).
However, my trans sibling has had 20 free sessions of electrolysis.

It truly is a man's world

AverageAvenger · 03/01/2019 20:21

PCOS here too. My consultant admitted to me that I’d be much better placed to get NHS treatment for excess hair if I was a transwoman.

So a man can get facial hair removal to look like a woman, but a woman has to accept that some women just have facial hair and get on with it.

Yeah. That makes fucking sense.

JoggerBottom · 03/01/2019 20:27

I read the article earlier. What I thought on first read was:

Works in IT.

SirVixofVixHall · 03/01/2019 21:08

Women pay for their own hair removal, so it makes a nonsense of TWAW doesn’t it ?

scotsheather · 03/01/2019 21:17

First the fertility freezing, now this. Transgender people are just some of very VERY many people vying for services from a cash strapped NHS and the sooner they realise this the better.

JellySlice · 03/01/2019 21:43

Not up to the DM's usual standards. DM is usually subtly GC. Stylistically different, too.

My first thought too. Epic trolling from the DM
