Fucking Bully Billy Connolly and his sick 'joke' about wife murder

Just saw a tv programme and have had my eyes opened to Bully.

He was on Parkinson back in the 1970s and told a 'joke' about a man who killed his wife and buried her body under a pile of earth but left her bottom sticking out. Wife murderer was asked why he left her bottom at the top and he replied, it was to park his bicycle.
Cos it's really funny, right.
Michael Parkinson laughed his head off. But then he has form for misogyny.

Don't give me any 'but he's a national treasure' bollocks.

It's an old joke and like all comedy some find it funny and others don't.

I thought it was quite funny and before you ask I'm only 25 so not an age thing.

If you don't like him why did you watch it?

Just get over it and move on.

MargueritaPink - yes it is all of those things - that’s exactly why it’s funny - you need to be able to be a bit silly in life sometimes. And of course I am speaking for myself not everyone else. This is my own opinion. Alongside everyone else’s opinion on here. Smile

At lot has changed in 40 years.
These days Connolly has both cancer and Parkinson's syndrome, he is suffering more than any punishment you want to give him.

The so called joke is not objectively funny. I think it was coarse, vulgar , puerile and not in the least bit funny.

Billy connolly is brilliant i love watching his shows and older clips on youtube. My boss knows him personally and says he is a very witty man and really down to earth

Later, after the comic relief nudism he seemed a bit too far fetched for me.

I saw him live a few years ago - I thought he was woeful then but DH loves him so off we went . All his jokes were about how hilarious fat people are, how stupid mentally impaired people are. And then he'd throw in a few "fucks" to make people laugh. I've always found him offensive but even more after that terrible show .

To the PP who commented that his body is punishing him enough.

Billy Connolly was raped by his father for five years between the ages of 10 and 15.

He's widely known as a good man, who (yes) is a product of his time and upbringing.

That's horrible, I had absolutely no idea of his history as I'm not really a fan of his comedy.
Seeing him go from extremely energetic to being almost unable to move is striking though.

Wauden, I don't really get your anger at something that was originally from 40 years ago. You are entitled to your opinion of BC as a comedian. He has always been marmite with controversial topics and colourful language. I'm not sure there is any need to be so vocal about a man who suffered abuse in childhood and now has Parkinson's. I don't think he can be personally held accountable for men murdering women. Save this level of anger for the murderers and the judges who give such weak sentences.

I found the early Billy Connolly very funny. Once he began rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous he went off
I used to adore Dave Allen and watched a rerun a couple of months ago. He had short scetches in amongst his chat. One showed a woman drowning, the life guard pulled her out of the water, looked around furtively then carried her into the changing room where we hear her scream
How funny rape is. I was horrified at what I have grown up watching and will never watch Dave Allen again
