Misgendered and violent

I know it's from the Daily Mail, but I can't find anyone else reporting on it. I've never seen a woman tell a man to "take it outside" or aggressively kick a display down because they've accidentally been called "sir"... (hope the link works).

I'm struggling to see what the argument is that this person was misgendered. I don't wear pink or hoop earrings so what is the signal that someone is a woman? I used to have short hair and jeans and t-shirts and was called a man all the time. I wasn't though.

So how exactly was the shop worker to know? Even if you buy into all this.

WSPU · 28/12/2018 23:21

Brave and stunning. Bloody hell.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 28/12/2018 23:22

HannahnotAgnes · 28/12/2018 23:50

Absolutely shocking male violence!

BubonicTheHedgehag · 29/12/2018 00:20

It's a man having a total tantrum; seems to be acting out of solipsism, entitlement, delusion, control-freakery, narcissism, aggression, violence.

Wordthe · 29/12/2018 00:23

Exactly I've been called sir more times than I can remember
doesn't bother me in the slightest

RedToothBrush · 29/12/2018 00:49

Santa misgendered my son.

Should I sue?

Or is the correct response just to throw a massive, violent tantrum? And should I be doing that rather than my 4 year old?

I'm a little confused as to what the socially accepted norm and etiquette is on this now.

Kinda proving the point 'tammy'.

RedToothBrush · 29/12/2018 01:02

I on the other hand, have never been misgendered.

I wear blue and trousers a lot and dislike pink, sparkles and skirts so I find it strange.

Is this because I'm 5ft 1, petite and can't buy underwear at m & s?

Tw1nsetAndPearls · 29/12/2018 01:02

@tammyjsmith22 is that male aggression at work there?

RedToothBrush · 29/12/2018 01:18

Ladies up in here tonight
No fighting
We got the refugees up in here
No fightin', no fightin'

Shakira, Shakira

I never really knew that she could dance like this
She makes a man wants to speak Spanish
Como se llama, bonita, mi casa, su casa (sí, sí)
Shakira, Shakira

Oh, baby, when you talk like that
You make a woman go mad
So be wise and keep on
Reading the signs of my body

I'm on tonight
You know my hips don't lie
And I'm starting to feel it's right
All the attraction, the tension
Don't you see, baby, this is perfection?

Hey, girl, I can see your body moving
And it's driving me crazy
And I didn't have the slightest idea
Until I saw you dancing
And when you walk up on the dance floor
Nobody cannot ignore the way you move your body, girl
And everything so unexpected, the way you right and left it

So you can keep on shaking it
I never really knew that she could dance like this
She makes a man want to speak Spanish
Como se llama, bonita, mi casa, su casa (sí, sí)
Shakira, Shakira

Oh, baby, when you talk like that
You make a woman go mad
So be wise and keep on
Reading the signs of my body

I'm on tonight
You know my hips don't lie
And I am starting to feel you, boy
Come on, let's go, real slow
Don't you see, baby, así es perfecto?

If I know I am on tonight, my hips don't lie
And I'm starting to feel it's right
All the attraction, the tension
Don't you see, baby, this is perfection?
Shakira, Shakira

Oh, boy, I can see your body moving
Half animal, half man
I don't, don't really know what I'm doing
But you seem to have a plan
My will and self-restraint
Have come to fail now, fail now
See, I am doing what I can, but I can't so you know
That's a bit too hard to explain

Baila en la calle de noche
Baila en la calle de día

Baila en la calle de noche
Baila en la calle de día

I never really knew that she could dance like this
She makes a man want to speak Spanish
Como se llama, bonita, mi casa, su casa (sí, sí)
Shakira, Shakira

Oh, baby, when you talk like that
You know you got me hypnotized
So be wise and keep on
Reading the signs of my body
Senorita, feel the conga
Let me see you move like you come from Colombia

Mi vida en Barranquilla se baila así sé
En Barranquilla se baila asi

Yeah, she's so sexy
Every man's fantasy
A refugee like me back with the Fugees from a third world country
I go back like when 'Pac carried crates for Humpty Humpty
We leave the whole club dizzy
Why the CIA wanna watch us?
Colombians and Haitians

I ain't guilty
It's a musical transaction
No more do we snatch ropes
Refugees run the seas 'cause we own our own boats

I'm on tonight, my hips don't lie
And I'm starting to feel you, boy

Come on, let's go, real slow
Baby, like this is perfecto
No fightin'
Oh, you know I'm on tonight, and my hips don't lie

And I am starting to feel it's right
The attraction, the tension
Baby, like this is perfection
No fightin', no fightin', no fightin'

Funny too how these 'isolated incidents' never raise a chorus of 'that's unacceptable' from TRA supporters (or indeed any denouncing of any behaviour), but a great deal of ordering women to stop talking about it.

That does seem odd, now you mention it.

(I thought the person filming was pretty brave. If that annoyed person spotted them, I don't think it would have gone well.)

nocoolnamesleft · 29/12/2018 04:47

It does seem to be rather archetypal "male violence" way to behave. Ironically.

DryHeave · 29/12/2018 06:38

This person seems bent on taking offence, repeatedly mishears & misinterprets what is being said.

If the shop worker had called them “ma’am” I fully expected they’d have kicked off for being called “man”.

SophoclesTheFox · 29/12/2018 06:52

I find this person quite terrifying.

I also find it terrifying that I would be expected to welcome this person into my sports team and changing room. I see a large angry male bodied person, and I am afraid of large angry male bodied people. Particularly ones who require me to adhere to specific rules of addressing and interacting with them.

It is entirely normal for a woman to feel as I do.

I am also intrigued and worried by the attempts to scrub this video off the internet. Why?

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 29/12/2018 07:04

(I thought the person filming was pretty brave. If that annoyed person spotted them, I don't think it would have gone well.)

That's what led to T Wolf & others beating Maria Mac up at Speakers Corner.

charis · 29/12/2018 07:26

Ah. I wondered where the original and my two deleted threads about this went! Terrific. Clearly a woman.

Betsvigi9 · 29/12/2018 08:21

Earlier this year something similar happened to my partner who volunteers at the local hospice shop. A customer came in during the summer dressed in baggy shirt and shorts, hair just off their shoulders. There was absolutely nothing to indicate that this person was transgender, nothing. My partner politely and innocently referred to them as "Sir" and they completely lost it, screaming and shouting and saying " how dare you I am obviously a woman. I am going to report you for treating trans people in this way, your shop is a disgrace etc. etc."

My partner apologised profusely but of course that wasn't enough. The person continued complaining for several minutes in a very loud voice before stomping out. Everyone who witnessed what happened supported my partner and reassured her that there was no way she could have known and that she had done nothing wrong

It was an extremely upsetting incident and no-one should think it is okay to behave that way. My partner now uses neutral terms for everyone, whilst in the shop.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 29/12/2018 08:31

Disgusting entitled behaviour by a man.

sackrifice · 29/12/2018 08:41

Male rage?

nellodee · 29/12/2018 08:57

The argument that "not all transwomen are like this" or "women can be like this too" just struck me as being identical to climate change deniers arguing that any one extreme weather event cannot be put down to global warming. Although they're not wrong, anyone who denies the bigger picture obviously has their own agenda in both cases.

I don't really have a bigger point, it's just interesting seeing the Double Think people contort themselves into. I'd also imagine these two specific cases of Double Think are mutually exclusive, so its not even a consistent logical flaw in thinking.
