An excellent essay that debunks the bogus science behind a lot of fashionable gender ideology convincingreasons.wordpress.com/2018/12/10/do-women-exist-the-science-of-sex-the-politics-of-gender-and-the-materialist-and-dialectical-thinking-needed-to-distinguish-the-two/

Thanks for that.

Thanks Graham, will check that out now.

Any news on why they removed your thread last night and if they are going to reinstate it?

The notification said they were discussing it this morning...

For anyone who didn't note down the email, it's [email protected]
If you should have any points to raise about Mermaids & a huge Lottery grant.

Sorry to butt in, Glinner.

There's some really good stuff coming out at the moment. This is an excellent article to share.

AspieAndProud · 17/12/2018 18:35

It’s a good essay until it gets to the ‘law of negation’ and all the Marxist bollocks creeps in.

There’s nothing inevitable about fish becoming land dwelling animals. The sea is still full of fish and they’ll probably outlive land animals if the climate continues to change.

Evolution doesn’t have a direction that eventually culminates in human beings, Communist or otherwise.

AspieAndProud · 17/12/2018 18:45

Also (nitpicky) I think the author says genotype when they mean karyotype.

DandelionsAreNotLions · 17/12/2018 18:49

For those who write to Dawn Austwick it may be worth including something re the nature pro Mermaids frothers on Twitter.
Most that I have seen do not live in the UK , tweet really offensive threats and are under 18 so wouldn't even be able to buy a lottery ticket. I asked them to check the credentials of the Mermaids mob and included my own professional credentials and experience. I was comfortable using my real name on my contact, many may not be and I doubt they will check anything but every little helps.

Anything on site stuff?
Should I start one?

ToeToToe · 17/12/2018 19:06

Very good point, Dandelions - I was thinking similar. Lots of heat from twitter TRAs, but not too much light. As usual.

Glinner - your thread last night should be reinstated. There was no excuse for taking it down IMO. And thanks for the article, I'll have a read.

KindOfAGeek · 17/12/2018 20:22

Aspie, one doesn't have to be a Marxist to believe politics is a circle where extremes eat themselves when they venture too far (ie, the law of negation). I'm not a Marxist, but Marxian criticism can be on point.

The dialectic doesn't follow a straight line forward, it can bend back on itself, and that's a flaw, IMO, in the original Hegel.

Otherwise, good essay, glinner, ty and Merry Christmas.

Xmas Smile

I think trying to impose a Marxist framework into evolution left the article implying that there’s a direction to evolution. There isn’t. The ancestors of dolphins and whales returned to the sea. Penguins and many other birds lost the power of flight.

And any adaptation can be lost if the environment ceases to support it. Fish that live in caves eventually lose their eyes.

@Glinner Might you please ask Mumsnet to edit the title of the thread please to include more info eg title, author or summary?

Things are moving very quickly (many threads) and it makes it easier for people to find and read (& also be able to locate again in the future)

Mumsnet have been happy to do this in the past in similar circumstances with articles etc.

(you just report the OP and then ask there)

Many thanks, it is an excellent article & hopefully more people will become aware of it and share it.

DandelionsAreNotLions · 18/12/2018 01:36

I've started a thread in Site Stuff.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/3454223-Mumsnet-Assemble-Thread-deleted-temporarily

Too much radio silence was making me twitchy.

KindOfAGeek · 18/12/2018 01:44

I agree. That's what I meant by the dialectic implies a straight line forward, and it doesn't work that way.

History goes backwards more often than people think.

AspieAndProud · 18/12/2018 01:58

I’d second the idea of renaming the thread. Despite my criticisms of the article it’s definitely worth a read - but the generic ‘Read this!’ is likely to be missed in such a busy forum.

Glinner · 19/12/2018 11:30

Hi all, can you suggest a better title and I'll see if I can get it changed?

OP posts:
WhatTheWatersShowedMe · 19/12/2018 11:46

How about: "Essay on the Science of Sex and the Politics of Gender" ?

R0wantrees · 19/12/2018 12:33

& you can add a recommendation to the title should you wish.
