Mermaids given £500,000 by National Lottery (Sunday Times)

A transgender charity that campaigns for children to be given prohibited sex-change treatment has been awarded £500,000 by the national lottery.

The payment to Mermaids has angered MPs, feminists and women’s organisations, who accuse the charity of bullying doctors, promoting falsehoods and using “emotional blackmail” to pressure parents to support life-changing medical interventions for their children. Mermaids will use the money to create a network of 45 groups nationwide.

I was under the impression that raising questions about Susie Green earned you police visits.

Here we are a few months down the line, and asking questions about Susie Green is now news for The Times.

I do hope Susie is straight on the phone again this time.

Susie Green's tweet from South America a few months ago saying that if mistakes were made about affirming a child who turned out not to be true trans, it wasn't a problem because 'trans is not a negative outcome' was the most shocking thing of all. She appears to me to be an evangelist for sterilising and mutilating kids with abandon. Anything to affirm her dreadful mistake.

hey, all! I got this from a friend and thought it worth posting here. Apologies if someone beat me to it.

"Can everyone write their complaints to Dawn Austwick [email protected] and urge others to do so. The grant has been confirmed but not signed off, there is still time to stop it and we need to force a review. Mermaids push an extreme ideological agenda, they are not professionals and they have no qualification to work with children and young people. Their approach towards children with gender dysphoria is experimental and non-evidence-based but we know that children treated in this way are more likely to embark on a medical pathway they don't come off once they start. The vast majority (around 80%) would resolve their feelings naturally by the end of puberty if left alone, and the most likely outcome is same-sex orientation in adulthood."

yup, and I knew I’d seen something that linked them so I dug back through various threads.

There is a post ages back that says that in her TED talk susie green notes that a key member of the West Yorkshire police was her child’s ‘best friend’ during the time they were transitioning.

Hmmm

West Yorkshire police hate crime unit that should say,

Oh dear.

Thanks for the email address Glinner, l will compose a letter tomorrow. A lot of these kids are too young to legally buy a lottery ticket, l can’t see how lottery funding can be used like this.

Usually, gender critical comments tend to be hidden below the “more replies” bit on a twitter thread for me so they’re not instantly visible. Recently though, it seems to be the other way round, with the TRAs hidden away.

Slightly off topic, but someone who works for The Telegraph is spreading the Mermaids suicide stats

"Almost half of trans teenagers have attempted suicide at least once. What is the alternative to @Mermaids_Gender? Just letting all trans people kill themselves?! "

twitter.com/BethAshton/status/1074376709426855937?s=19

"Mentions now popping off with people who hate trans people. Blanket response to you all - I’m not one of them and your vile responses aren’t going to turn me into one."

twitter.com/BethAshton/status/1074401372672544770?s=19

The "vile responses" are people pointing out yhe suicide data is flawed.

Totally irresponsible.

I'm so sick of this "you hate trans people" fingers in the ears attitude.

There are comments under both articles now and the ones under Andrew Gilligan's are almost unanimous in being strongly supportive of what he writes and horrified at what is happening. Posy Parker has commented under her own name as has Stephanie Davies Aral.

I don't understand why anyone listens to Susie Green as an authority on trans or medical treatment. She is not a doctor, academic, researcher, psychologist or psychiatrist.
SG is an iT professional ffs who took her own child to Thailand for illegal surgery. And has been promoting extreme transgender ideology ever since.

Because it was Glinner, and the Monitors came, got spooked by everyone seeing that Mermaids is being given loads of money, and mass-reported loads of comments on the thread and had it taken down. You know, just another day of attempting silencing [shrug]

I got the deleted message?

Message from MNHQ: We've taken this thread down overnight as it seems to be causing an awful lot of reports. We've a few things to discuss about it at MNHQ in the morning but we'll let you know as soon as we can what's happening with the thread. Thanks for your patience.

Hopefully MNHQ will realise the Monitors targeted it and will reinstate.

The deleted comments were mostly seagulls.

The last I saw was comment that Paris Lees had publicised the thread on twitter and was urging followers there to write to the Big Lottery.

(Ive only ever seen one other thread disappear like that)

Thanks all. Wonder if PL et al will be so active and vocal once the legal cases start rolling in in response to the mutilated and damaged young people.

I have written to Dawn Austwick about this. It's completely unacceptable for lottery funds to go to an organisation that advocates a course of action that will sterilise children

What are people thinking?
