"A 30-year-old from Albuquerque, New Mexico, has been arrested in Rockdale and charged with capital murder in the death of a 1-year-old girl.

According to Rockdale police, around 5:45 p.m. Monday, first responders were called to a home on San Gabriel Street. The 911 caller said a child was not breathing. Authorities said the 1-year-old lived at the residence with her grandfather, who is her primary caregiver, but was at work at the time.

When first responders arrived, they began treating 1-year-old Patricia Ann Rader, who remained unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene 30 minutes later. First responders noted the girl’s body was bruised along her torso, arms, legs, neck and head. According to Rockdale Police Department Chief Thomas Harris, an autopsy showed the girl had extensive internal injuries and broken bones throughout her body."

"Boniello confessed to punching, slapping, shaking and squeezing the child until the girl stopped moving, a police report notes. The report states Boniello mentioned feeling angry at the baby and squeezing her until Boniello felt the child’s bones move."

It says that the tw was in a relationship with the baby's grandfather.

Further, they are not seeking the death penalty as the legal costs are too high.

Why do they point out that she is trans?

kittencatmeow · 11/12/2018 02:47

Ugh! That poor poor baby!

kittencatmeow · 11/12/2018 02:48

It's unavailable due to legal reasons in the EU? (The link)

BitOfFun · 11/12/2018 03:35

Why are they being described as a Trans Woman? Possibly for accuracy in crime statistics. After all, we are almost weary of cases like this confusing the issue of male violence. Likewise, Tara Desousa (child rapist), Karen White, Lisa Hauxwell etc etc.

Approaching 50% of Trans offenders in prison in the U.K. are there for sexual offences. Even supposing that half of them are transmen (unlikely), transwomen going to women's prisons for sex offences would still increase the number of women in jail for that reason by 25%.

Accurate reporting matters, if we are to ever understand the root causes of violence and sex offences.

AngryAttackKittens · 11/12/2018 04:16

Why would the reporting not mention that the alleged perp is a transwoman? If they report the person as a woman they're being misleading, if they report the person as a man that will set off a Twitter storm.

If there's a reason you think that info should be concealed, Raven, I'd love to hear it.

This link works. Real name is in the link but not the article

The family are pushing for a death penalty charge - much more likely to happen when the perpetrator is Male-born than when the perpetrator is female-born.

I googled and several reports say the child was squeezed, so the physical strength of a Male bodied person is likely relevant for forensics.

All the reports I read use the she/her pronouns, so mentioning the (alleged) murderers trans status doesn’t appear to be intentionally disrespectful, just one of the facts of the case.

GeorgeFayne · 11/12/2018 07:33

Surprise, surprise! A biologic male violently murders a defenseless toddler. Happens every single day on this planet. We all know the problem here...male violence. (And no, it is not changed or mitigated by makeup or a new name.)

That said, what a decrepit piece of shit! Given the nature of Texas jails, my hunch is this individual will have a difficult time behind bars. It's doubtful the accused will be housed in a women's facility, though Texas is currently "restructuring" their policies for trans inmates.

As an aside, I'm not sure where Texas stands on record keeping and gender ID. I think the accused will likely be listed as male.

Raven

Why wouldn’t they?

GeorgeFayne · 11/12/2018 07:39

Both Texas and New Mexico (where the accused was reportedly from) both require sex reassignment surgery to change a birth certificate. So...?

BettyDuMonde · 11/12/2018 08:12

Lots of the news stories I found use the perpetrator’s birth (Male) name - one quotes a family member who describes it as their ‘real name’ so it seems likely that they haven’t legally changed their name, nor their legal sex/gender status.

That crowdfunder is heart breaking.

Patricia Ann Rader, ‘Annie’. You deserved love and protection.

I’m opposed to the death penalty on principle but I hope the person who did this to you never knows liberty again.

(You used to be able to get help with funeral expenses for murder victims in the U.K. - I hope you still can. It seems especially cruel to have to ask for help at such a terrible time - even those of us who are organised enough to plan for our own funeral expenses are unlikely to have considered it for a healthy child)

BettyDuMonde · 11/12/2018 08:18

Looks like they were happikybusong their Male name (and describing themselves as a ‘tranny’) 10 months ago:

QuietContraryMary · 11/12/2018 09:13

Oh that's nice - my post at 0735 was deleted for using the pronoun 'it' to refer to a man who murdered a baby.

It is good to see that Mumsnet fully respects the pronouns of baby killers.

It's not MN really is it... it's people reporting and they have to follow their guidelines once its reported. I'd think they could just ignore them in the case of child murderers but...

QuietContraryMary · 11/12/2018 09:22

I believe in some previous mod posts it has been stated by mnhq that we can call transgender rapists, etc. men, for example.

A local news report with some clarity, wonder if the TRAs will go after them now www.centexproud.com/news/local/update-prosecutors-seeking-possible-punishment-for-man-accused-of-killing-toddler/1651190037

happydappy2 · 11/12/2018 10:05

Well if news reports are calling him by male pronouns, as he’s after all a man, then I guess we can reference him as a man on here.
Horribly tragic case, my heart goes out to the family.
This individual clearly had mental health problems.

Qcng · 11/12/2018 13:21

I am completely against the death penalty on principle but then I come across cases like this and I just think.... hmm I would actually support it in this case.

VickyEadie · 11/12/2018 13:25

Over on the AIBU thread on Huntley, a poster repeatedly calls him "it"...

feelingverylazytoday · 11/12/2018 14:25

wonder if the TRAs will go after them now
Of course they won't. They'll be quite happy not to be associated with a baby killer.

NotScrewingUpNow · 11/12/2018 14:38

Hope the monster gets the death penalty.

MrsTerryPratcett · 11/12/2018 15:16

I am opposed to the death penalty.

But what is the prison system going to do with the increasing numbers of transwomen offenders who commit violent crimes? There is nowhere in the female prisons for these offenders to be placed. Even if it was safe for the female prisoners to do so.

If transwomen commit violent crime of this type, and they are housed in the female estate, new prisons will have to be built. And high category prisons are incredibly expensive.

BitOfFun · 11/12/2018 16:03

They should be on a segregated wing in the male estate, as they offend at the same rate as other men, and their rates of sexual offences are somewhat higher. That is a much better way of handling the risks of violence to both women, and trans prisoners. It is not appropriate for them to be in women's prisons at all, in my view: we don't accommodate the hurty feelz of would-be concert pianists denied the opportunity of expressing the music in their soul, so I don't see why Brian gets to wear frilly knickers and have us call him Serena. They're in prison- they're not supposed to call the shots.
