This is the committee that Rosa Freedman was giving evidence to.

MSP: you said that equality act should be amended to remove occupational requirement for cis women, but not transperson.

Vic Valentine: should not allow specifically excluding trans from roles, and should be able to require trans people for.roles

MSP: Julien Norman pointed out that ehrc advice on single sex spaces have changed to be more ambiguity?

Hopkins: equality act very clearly speaks. about legal sex, not bio sex.

Sex is not changeable. No-one born with XY chromosomes has ever had them all change to XX.

Was so impressed by the reasonable respectful & engaged way that today's session was conducted. It seems that a number of Bills had been prepared in anticipation of self-ID being pushed through, and now MSPs are having to navigate those Bills in light of that likely not happening

Thanks for that ItsAllGoing, the ignorance shouldn't surprise me but it does - sex is "changeable"???

And an actual government giving credence to the bullshit nonsense that is non-binary makes me want to fucking weep.

What do they think the point of the census is - to validate identities or to collect usable information for planning the future?

Why are so many seemingly incapable of not only thinking forward (i.e the consequences) or of thinking backwards (i.e what is the reason for this thing in the first place - like sexed bodies or a census).

In summary trans = get all your demands met, women = fuck off.

Is it too early for ?

Actually I got the impression from watching that the MSPs (at least some of them) were deeply cycnical about the whole thing, but had to give a fair and balance hearing. It will be interesting to see the tone of the report when it comes out.

Your take makes me feel slightly better ItsAll so I'll skip the gin until later!

I'm at work here in Edinburgh - thanks for your running commentary! So sorry to miss Rosa (are you still here? In a pub somewhere?). And her tweet re: MSPs navigating Bills in the light of self id possibly not becoming law is heartening.
I was planning another email to all my representatives over the weekend - this has been another boost to keep on at them!
