Uni of Hull to name building after Jenni Murray. You can probably guess the rest

"@UniOfHull As a Trans student, can I ask why I'll soon be forced to attend lectures in a theatre named after somone who doesn't believe I am a woman???? "

"Just heard @UniOfHull, the Uni I study at and love, may name a building after somebody who has been condemned by many trans people as transphobic.

This could be a big mistake and I’d urge they reconsider.

Trans women are women.
Trans men are men.
Trans rights are human rights. "

Buckle up - here we go again!

“Your complicity in the patriarchy is hanging out. Tuck it back in and do your zip up, please.”

Gold. I’m stealing this, with many thanks to the author.

Oooh so Hull needs to be in the running for the DC who’s off next year Smile

Six lecture theatres in the Larkin (that famous respecter of women!) building will be named after female graduates of the University: Jenni Murray, Ayesha Hazarika, Eleanor King, Indhu Rubhasingham, Rosie Millard and Marianne Elliot

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 01/12/2018 12:11

Those twitter threads are so cheering Smile

AngryAttackKittens · 01/12/2018 12:16

Hmm, who should I take more seriously, Jenni Murray or the person who appears to be wearing a onesie with kitty ears and has chosen that as the image of themselves they wish to present to the world?

Meanwhile, universities can name their buildings anything they like. Don't like that? Too bad.

Say what now?

reallyanotherone · 01/12/2018 15:23

What’s religion got to do with it?

God created man, then created woman. Human socialization created gender.

Oh my god thank you so much.

Anti women activists keep going on about how we are part of the religious right.

Thank you for showing that the religious right also think we are hateful bigots!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 01/12/2018 15:27

Most religions are patriarchal and will of course put the feelings of males above the rights of women to free speech and equal representation.

What a great choice, Jenni Murray's journalism has done so much over many years to support women, she has brought to wider discussion and understanding issues about work, domestic violence, pay inequality, pension rights, all the things that anyone living their life as a woman should be aware of and grateful for.

Of course she has also highlighted women's issues such as breast cancer, post natal depression, the menopause, pmt , pregnancy and other women's issues that some people purporting to live their life as women have absolutely no use for or interest in whatsoever...... Maybe that's the problem.

I do not agree with men can be women and vice versa. I think the point here is that you don’t need to outwardly say it, you are all adults with children and families and you are picking on a student who has brought an important topic to the forefront - a person who has outwardly shown hate towards a particular group of people will soon have a legacy at the university. If your minds were wider and not focused on hate you would be able to see this.

BettyDuMonde · 01/12/2018 15:43

LemenJello 😂

donajimena · 01/12/2018 15:52

The Twitter comments are fantastic

PositivelyPERF · 01/12/2018 15:55

I do not agree with men can be women and vice versa.

You do realise that the person you’re defending will now consider you a ‘transphobe’ and that you have committed violence against them, by that comment, don’t you? BTW, since you’ve just said that people can’t change sex, then you’re denying their existence. Welcome to the club. 💐

PositivelyPERF · 01/12/2018 15:56

That comment was to Godloveseveryone1

😘 You will be rewarded in feminist heaven for your work.

Godloveseveryone1 · 01/12/2018 16:05

I do realise I would be considered a transphobe but I cannot be accused of hate like every single one of you. I know this person well and I know for a fact if you met them you would not say these things. Because you are protected by your computer you suddenly have football-sized bollocks. My point simply here is that there are bigger topics of outrage, not an upset student.

DeRigueurMortis · 01/12/2018 16:07

Interesting how many supportive comments are from men, who presumably have never considered how many women work daily in buildings named after misogynists yet are keen to step in to support a fellow male from being "traumatised" by naming a building after a women who has a firm grasp of biological fact.

LangCleg · 01/12/2018 16:09

Because you are protected by your computer you suddenly have football-sized bollocks.

We don't have bollocks, dear. That's, you know, rather the point.
