Tweet asks whether potiential victims of sexual abuse will choose to be at their 'abuser's place' or have a 'happy face' Confused This is so unbelievably victim-blamey! I really hope the mainstream media picks up on it and they have a rethink!

The wording came from "officers on the ground"?

In that case, the officers on the ground need some training, Chief Officers.

ImogenTubbs · 27/11/2018 15:56

I also really don't understand the campaign. Birthday gift or angry fists? Give nice birthday presents to potential abusers, otherwise they might punch you in the face? Say what?

BlancheM · 27/11/2018 16:00

Absolute bastards. So angry!

FermatsTheorem · 27/11/2018 16:46

I've been racking my brains all day and I can't remember the link for the source material or the critique of it, but I remember an excellent thread on here about some appalling "safeguarding" material which had made its way into schools - basically films of really graphic scenarios of girls being groomed into abuse and underage prostitution, with lesson plans based round "What could you have done differently to avoid being one of these stupid girls who allowed herself to be groomed?" completely ignoring the fact that (a) the films were not at all age-appropriate (as in, would probably get a 15 if not an 18 certificate on general release) (b) there would be girls in the class who had been abused in exactly the way shown and this would trigger PTSD in them and (c) the material was extremely victim-blaming (onus on girls to do some magic something which would stop them being victimised).

I've a feeling Lisa Muggeridge may have done something on this, but this isn't the main critique I'm thinking of - the woman in question was an academic I think and did a series of short films explaining what was wrong with the classroom materials and how harmful they were.

Can anyone remember the name? (R0wantrees?)

Just that this crap from North Yorks Police seems very much cut from the same cloth.

Spottycake · 27/11/2018 16:56

Its a real shame. I can remember that old advert about what you would say to yourself and it was my first step to freedom.

NeurotrashWarrior · 27/11/2018 17:06

Has it been deleted? Sorry couldn't see on thread if someone had posted that it had.

NeurotrashWarrior · 27/11/2018 17:07

Ah sorry I see it was. Fucking hell what a terrible campaign!

RepealTheGRA · 27/11/2018 17:18

FermatsTheorem

It’s Jessica Eaton campaigns against these films.

RepealTheGRA · 27/11/2018 17:21

And not to be out done South York’s are promoting parental rights for rapists Shock Is there a separate thread on that somewhere?

FermatsTheorem · 27/11/2018 17:24

Thank you Repeal. Yes, Jessica Eaton.

Yes I saw that - front page lead on the online version of the Times:

What the ever-loving fuck is wrong with Yorkshire? (I say that as someone with family connections there, who lived there for 10 years, who loves the place dearly, but what the fuck has gone wrong with all the authority figures up there?)

RepealTheGRA · 27/11/2018 17:26

I watched Red Riding after a recommendation from on here recently. Absolutely scared the shit out of me Sad

Something does seem to be rotten to the core in Yorkshire, and been like that for a while.

FermatsTheorem · 27/11/2018 17:40

I mean the fuck ups are not new. I was a teen during the Ripper murders and the police were spectacular in their incompetence. Then there's Hillsborough. And when Leeds schools were deemed to be failing so badly they were taken out of local authority control, the government did a "appoint the cheapest bidder, regardless of whether they're any good" approach to privatisation, and appointed Peter Risdale, the man whose previous management successes included taking Leeds United from the Premiership/European Champions' League and bankrupting them...

Yup, thinking back, Yorkshire has been pretty screwed for a long, long time.

RedToothBrush · 27/11/2018 18:04

So someone went to an advertising firm with a brief and a set of pre approved text, some one was paid a lot for those adverts and signed off payment for those adverts, then those adverts were be approved by the police after being looked at by a number of people in communications.

Q: who is the advertising firm, and who is liaising with them / approving them

Q: the statement that, the advert was worded by people involved in front line policing beggers belief. It makes the advert worse not better.

Q: is there anyone vaguely literate at North York police? Cos that advert makes me question that. How can that be read in any other way??

Q: Did they not consider showing them to victims to see what they thought of the adverts before going public?

RedToothBrush · 27/11/2018 18:09

BTW there are lots of posters who are regularly confusing police forces.

North Yorkshire Police, West Yorkshire Police and South Yorkshire Police are all separate police forces.

The repeated confusion doesn't help sort the situation.

FermatsTheorem · 27/11/2018 18:25

Separate, but all equally fucked up it would appear, so I'm not surprised people are getting confused, to be honest.

AngryAttackKittens · 27/11/2018 19:36

It was probably me recommending Red Riding. I'm sure the average person in Yorkshire is lovely, but the institutions seem to be rotten to the core.

SirVixofVixHall · 27/11/2018 22:34

Formats, my dd was shown one of those films and was really distressed and upset. Horrifying content that frightened her for no reason, she was 11.
I wholeheartedly support Jessica Eaton , unsurprisingly she robustly challenged the police on these tweets.

SirVixofVixHall · 27/11/2018 22:34

Fermats not formats. Bloody predictive text. Sorry.

FermatsTheorem · 27/11/2018 22:44

SirVix - your poor daughter!

Carrotsandcauliflower · 27/11/2018 22:58

Wtf is going on in that police force? It’s just one thing after another over there- they are a joke.

Ereshkigal · 27/11/2018 23:05

Jessica is amazing.

AnyFucker · 27/11/2018 23:09

Truthfully, I cannot understand what they were trying to achieve

Abeautifulpeagreenboat · 27/11/2018 23:35

Their mealy mouthed response is making me even more angry. Victim blaming fuckwits.
